2. Future ft The Weeknd – Low Life
Genre – Rap/ Alternative RnB
Type of Video – Performance/
Conceptual
Purpose of the video:
Promote and show off the artists, you
can tell this because the two artists are
in the foreground of the screen the
whole time and are always the main
focus of the video. This could have been
done to highlight their style, their music
also represents their culture and style.
What’s inspirational:
From this video I thought the idea of the
smoke and light coming from through
the black background worked very well.
This is inspirational as it can be easily re-
created by us as we would only need a
black screen and a smoke machine
which both aren’t very expensive.
The conceptual side behind this video Is
the lyrics representing their life and
culture they live for/in. They are talking
about drugs, sex and cars and how they
are living the bad “low life”, this is shown
in the video through the abandoned
house and the nice car they are next to.
3. Wstrn – In2/ Remix
Genre - Grime/ Hip Hop
Type of video – Performance
Purpose of the video:
The purpose of this video is to
highlight their artists culture and also
promote their artists. Since this is a
remix, there are various different
artists in the song and they all appear
in the video performing the song.
What’s Inspirational:
The use of the drone to capture angles
that are very high up, this adds a new
and different aspect to the video as most
song videos don’t use this. It allows the
audience to see the grime culture from a
wider angle and also to notice more
things happening in the shots.
4. Drake – Hotline Bling
Genre – RnB
Type of video - Performance
Purpose of the video:
This video is very basic and is based in a
small box room with the artist dancing
inside. The reason he has done this is
likely
What’s Inspirational:
I found that the lighting in this video
would be very easy to create .
5. Harlem Spartans – Kennington Bop
Genre – Grime
Type of video – Performance
Purpose of video:
The purpose of this video is to give an
insight into the artist culture, it is also to
promote themselves a they are a fairly
new group that aren’t very famous.
What’s Inspirational:
I really liked the editing in this video as it
was very paces and complimented the
songs fast pace. There is also a lot of cool
editing techniques that we could possibly
use depending on the song we do as
these are mainly used for grime songs.
There is a lot of quick flashes and cuts
between clips which create a fast pace.
There is also a grainy kind of texture in
some of the clips which create a
fragmented feel to the video
representing the culture they live in. This
would be hard to re-create but is possible
with some practice.
6. Jon Bellion – Luxury
Genre - Contemporary Pop
Type of Video – Narrative/ Conceptual
Purpose of the video:
There is a very deep meaning of this
video in that it is separated into three
parts, the first being when he is a child,
then when he’s a little older and then
finally when he is a man. The narrative
of the video shows him growing up over
time. However, there is a deeper
conceptual meaning and I perceive in a
way that shows him running away from
his fears represented by the creatures.
Throughout the whole video he is
carrying a candle which is often seen as
a symbol of hope, this suggests that with
the candle he can escape his fears as he
grows up.
What’s inspirational:
From this video I really liked the
animated theme and the deeper
meaning that is portrayed in the video.
It is practically impossible for us to do an
animated music video, however, we
could re-create a similar video in real life
that is a narrative video with a much
deeper meaning.
