1. How effective is the combination
of your main product (video) and
ancillary texts (digipak and
advertisement)?
Remina Akthar
2. Colour Scheme and Fonts
For my ancillary work, I decided to go
with an ‘Aurora Borealis’ theme as
the name of our artist’s album is
‘Aurora’. The colours I went for
were, black, blue, green and purple.
The image of the artist also fitted in
with the colour scheme as the outfit
was black.
We shortlisted some fonts that we
liked and then shortened them
down to three, which are
highlighted in black. This is the font
I used which is ‘raja drama’. I liked
the way it looked on my digipak as
it went with the overall artist image
I was trying to create.
3. Costume
For our artist, the costume was the most important element as it
creates an image for the audience. The costume shows that our
artist is young with an urban, grunge style. We went for brands like
Boy London and Jeffrey Campbell which are familiar with teenagers
and young adults. Throughout the video and my ancillary work, our
artist has the same hairstyle of having her hair down and we also
used hats. For my ancillary work, I used the images from our
photoshoot.
4. Setting and Location
We chose to film in Brick Lane for our video as it is a trendy area where
young people hang out. We also wanted our video to have graffiti as
one of the main elements and Brick Lane is known for its street art. We
also decided to film in a club for when the music is uptempo and fast. The
nightclub scenes are from Area London which is managed by Hannah D’s
uncle. We also filmed in a classroom and used the interactive whiteboard
so we can film some shots with different coloured backgrounds.
5. Target Audience We created a
Twitter profile for an
example of
someone who
would listen to our
artist. We then
decided that the
audience would fall
into the
psychographic
profile, Aspirers
which is someone
who likes the good
things in life.
Our music video is targeted towards teenagers and young adults. This is due to the
way we have presented our artist and the image we have created. Our artist has a
lot of similar interests to a teenager living in a city. Our artist listens to a lot of relevant
artists that are big in the industry now, for example Rihanna, Florence + The
Machine, Rita Ora and Calvin Harris. We chose the remixed version of ‘Spectrum’ by
Florence + The Machine and Calvin Harris. This track falls into the indie/pop genre.
The remixed version is uptempo and complements our club scenes. We created an
audience portfolio in our planning and research stages to show who would be the
target audience. The advert for our artist would be seen in fashion magazines like
Look and Glamour as these magazines feature artists like Rihanna. It would also be
seen in tube stations as we want to show our artist as a ‘Londoner.’
