TEACHING METHODS AND MATERIALS IN ELT

9.00-11.00am July 27, 2015
 APPROACH--- Theoretical positions and beliefs about the nature of
language, its learning and the applicability of both of them to the pedagogical
settings.
 Methods and materials are selectedonthe basis of different ELT Approaches.
 By the end of this presentation, participants of the TEFL WORKSHOP
should be able to
 Outline student-centered teaching and learning methods & materials.
 Explain how different methods and subsequent materials can be used in
the best possible way in a lesson.
 Implement appropriate methods and materials for ELT teaching and
learning process in order to expedite learning of the students.
 To make an informed choice of teaching methods and materials the ELT
Teacher must know:
 The teaching methods and materials available,
 Strengths and weaknesses of each of them,
 The purpose of each of them and how they can be used.
 The recommended teaching method recently is the participatory teaching
method and the teacher who follows it is known as a Reflective Teacher
believing in Constructivist Learning Theory.
 Definition, classification, a framework and principles for ELT Materials.
 Adoption, Development and adaptation of the materials.
 A recommended reading, in this context, “Materials Development for
Language Learning and Teaching” by Brian Tomlinson on slideshare.net
 ACTIVITY & DISCUSSION
