2. Teaching
• Teaching is a social process. Therefore ,it is influenced by the political
system of the country , sociological philosophy ,social circumstances and
values. the type of political system or social and philosophical
circumstances determine the type of teaching.
• Definition :-
• “Teaching is a goal directed activity.”(Smith)
• “All teaching is the promotion of learning.”(James m. thyme)
• “Teaching is a face to face encounter.”(Jackson)
3. Principle of Teaching
• In teaching new knowledge should be linked by previous knowledge. That
is ,teaching should be based on previous knowledge.
• New knowledge should be imparted by using the question answer
method.
• A teacher should give his student opportunities for understanding and
exercise. It makes teaching effective.
• When students are reinforced by motivation and desirable behaviour,
they learn more readily.
• Students learn better by admiration as compared to punishment.
• The teaching learning objectives and ambition level should be specified
on the basis of students abilities, levels and capabilities.

6. Maxims of Teaching
• Importance : A good teacher succeeds in transmitting his knowledge and
experience to his students. An important and essential task of a teacher is
to teach student as per their interest and curiosity , explain knowledge well
, create such class environment in which students can do learning activities
and gain learning experiences. On the basis of different discoveries in
educational field , experienced teachers , psychologists and educationists
have presented their experiences and judgements in the form of maxims.
They can be used in order to make teaching learning process more effective
and scientific. These teaching maxims prove useful under all circumstances.
7. Maxims of Teaching
• From known to unknown.
• From simple to complex.
• From indefinite to definite.
• From empirical to rational.
• From concrete to abstract.
• From analysis to synthesis.
• From direct to indirect.
• From specific to general.
• From psychological to logical.
• From induction to deduction.
• From whole to part.
8. Conclusion
• It is expected of a skilled teacher to make use of teaching principles ,
general and psychological principle of teaching , and teaching maxims in
order to make his teaching effective. A teacher applies these in his
teaching in order to make his teaching effective. Teaching is used to bring
behavioural change in students , in order to make the teaching process
more effective , different educationists , psychologiests and researchers
have used different teaching principles and maxims. These principle and
maxims control the process of teaching and carry a teacher towards
successful teaching.
