1. Teaching Guide
First Quarter – Practical Research 1
Dates: ___January 15-19, 2024____________
TOPIC/LESSON NAME The Differences of Qualitative Research and Quantitative Research
CONTENT STANDARDS
The learner demonstrates understanding of:
1. The importance of research in daily life
2. The characteristics, processes, and ethics of research
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
The learner is able to use appropriate kinds of research in making decisions.
LEARNING COMPETENCIES
The learners:
1. Differentiates quantitative from qualitative research.
2. Provide examples of research in areas of interest (arts, humanities, sports, science,
business, agriculture and fisheries, information and communication technology, and
social inquiry).

PROCEDURES MEETING THE LEARNERS’ NEEDS
1. INTRODUCTION
The teacher explains to the students the objectives of the topic.
At the end of this lesson, the learners will be able to:
1. Differentiate quantitative research and qualitative research.
2. Provide examples of research in areas of interest.
Teacher Tip:
2. MOTIVATION
Picture Analysis.
Analyze and Understand the given pictures below and share your thoughts about the
pictures.
Teacher Tip:
3. INSTRUCTION
TYPES OF RESEARCH
(ACCORDING TO TECHNIQUE)
These techniques can be classified into two broad categories – quantitative and qualitative
methods.
Teacher Tip:
3. Quantitative techniques collect data in the form of numbers.
Examples:
height, weight, age of a person; the daily, monthly or annual income of an employee ; and your
grades in academic subjects.
Qualitative techniques collect data in the form of words or statements.
Researches that use the quantitative techniques are called Quantitative Researches.
Researches that use qualitative techniques are called Qualitative Researches.
CHARACTERISTICS OF QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE RESEARCHES
Qualitative Research
- More subjective
- Involves gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data based on observations. These data can be
in form of ideas, actions, symbols derived usually from in-depth observations and interviews.
- aims to interpret meanings, descriptions, and symbols
Some examples of qualitative research topics:
1. Students’ images of chemistry
2. Gender and cultural gaps in the classroom
3. Science practices of the Mangyan tribe
Quantitative Research
-More objective
-Good statistical treatments are important in deciding possible outcomes or conclusions
Some examples of Quantitative research topics:
4. 1. Growth performance of organic fertilizers
2. Population rate in Metro manila in the next 20 years
METHODS USED IN QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH
One of the major difference is the methods that are employed.
In qualitative research, the researcher is usually immersed in the setting.
In quantitative, the researcher is separated from the process.
4. PRACTICE
Venn Diagram Activity
Directions: Complete the Venn diagram below by writing down differences and
similarities of qualitative research and quantitative research.
Teacher Tip:
5. ENRICHMENT
Answer what have I learned so far on pages 11, 13, 14,15,16 and 17.
