Yasmin Espinosa volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Parkway Middle School in Kissimmee, Florida, working with four special needs students - two Hispanic and two Caucasian boys between the ages of 11-13, three with autism and one with profound mental handicaps. She helped them with homework, played sports and games with them, and spent time in the game room. Working with the students, especially one boy named Jordan with autism, gave her insight into their struggles and opened her eyes to their lives and desire to be treated like others. The experience taught her to be grateful for opportunities to help others.

Aaron Davlin was a 27-year-old student who was overwhelmed with work, school, and family responsibilities. He initially failed most of his classes and dropped out of college after his first semester. He later returned to school to pursue a career in nutrition but struggled in science courses and felt hopeless. Through retaking classes and changing his major to psychology, he was able to earn an Associate's degree and transfer to complete his Bachelor's at Fresno State. He realized his calling was to become a teacher to help young minds, as teaching allowed him to work with people. He was determined to keep his promise to graduate, which he would accomplish in December with the confidence and experiences to become an empathetic teacher.

This article proposes a new distance measure called Spatial Assembling Distance (SpADe) to handle noisy, shifting, and scaling time series data. SpADe can effectively measure the similarity between time series that exhibit amplitude and temporal variations. The article also applies SpADe to the task of continuous pattern detection in streaming time series data and shows it achieves high accuracy and efficiency.
