1. Autobiography
Brennan Boucher
I was born on June 2, 1995 and grew up in the small town of Nolensville, TN. When I
was five, my sister was born which marked the beginning of my love for children and being
considered “mom”. Three years later, my brother was born and it was evident that I would
forever be a second mother figure to my siblings and it was then that I truly began to feel my
calling to be a teacher. I am the first in my family to actually go to college to pursue a degree in
education. However, both my grandmother and mother grew up watching children which
introduced me to the idea of being an educator. My mom is actually a day care director where I
spend most of my summers teaching at.
Growing up it was clear to everyone that children were my passion. My dream for as long
as I can remember is to be a mom and a teacher. With my siblings, I was very protective and
treated them as my children. I would wake up early in the morning just to feed them and would
also get extremely upset if someone else tried to hold them. With my friends, I am called mom
because I make sure everyone is okay and constantly strive to help them out. I was born to be a
teacher. I was born to love and guide children.
My schooling started with going to Nolensville Elementary School where I had many
challenging, yet influential teachers. They are the ones who inspire me to become an educator.
Still today my favorite teachers are the ones I had in elementary school. I admire the way they
taught me and loved their use of hands-on experiences to teach students. I continued on to Sunset
Middle where I played basketball and was on the honor roll. I strived to excel in school and
loved having such a patient teacher who would come before school to give me extra tutoring. I
then went on to play basketball at Brentwood High School for three years and continued to be on
2. the honor roll. The teachers there were really encouraging and each one of them had their own
special gift when it came to teaching. I enjoyed my experiences in the public school systems and
was very pleased with the teaching techniques. I learned best from the ones who make use of
hands-on learning, use of film in further explaining the lesson, and with stories to relate what we
are learning to everyday life. I also had many influential teachers in my life who have shown me
what it means to be an educator and am the reason why I have chosen the Education path.
I was also involved in my church youth group for many years and enjoyed mission trips
to both the Navajo Reserve in Montezuma Creek, Utah and in Morant Bay, Jamaica. On both
these mission trips, I have had the opportunity to lead Vacation Bible School to the locals and
spread the love of Christ. I was placed with the elementary aged students which hold a very
special place in my heart. When spreading Christ and teaching children who are apart of cultures
unlike yours, you experience an unforgettable journey. You get the opportunity to see these
children grow in many different ways. At the beginning of the week they are uncontrollable and
then by the end, they walk away with an understanding of God and have learned something from
their experience with you. My goal in life is to hopefully change the world for one person.
However, when being on these trips, the real person to come back changed is me. I see the light
of God shine through children and I walk away changed by the love they show me.
I love having the opportunity to grow with all God’s children and that is why I am so
passionate about becoming an educator. I have grown up babysitting many different ages of
children with endless personalities, but my love for them stays the same. I work at Jenkins
Mothers Day Out in the baby classroom where I work with children from ages 5 months to 2
years. I have done this for nearly 5 years and it has been such an incredible blessing in my life.
The children I teach leave an imprint on my heart and each one of them teaches me something
3. different about God and life. They show me that there is good in the world and that God loves us
all unconditionally. Some of the children, I have even been able to watch grow up and babysit
for the past 5 years. I have also been a nanny to a fourteen year old boy and experienced all the
hardships that come with a teenage boy such as girl drama, sassiness, homework load, extra-curricular
activities and how to manage those things in order to be a successful student and
young adult. We went through many trials together and in the end we both came out differently. I
learned an enormous amount of things that year and got to work with an age I had normally not
worked with. I learned that the key to dealing with children is with patience and love. That even
when it seems that there is no good coming out of the situation, all they need is to be spoken to
with a loving heart and understanding. At that age, children are going through many changes
which sometimes lead them to suppress anger onto another person, but even so they need to be
loved and to discuss what challenges they face. On a completely different scale, I have nanny
brothers who are one and two years old. From them you learn patience as well but on a different
level. You are their guidance and teacher. You teach them the basic foundations that life is based
on. It requires a ton of work to discipline them in an effective, loving way and in the end you
experience so much joy and love from the experiences you go through with them.
I am very passionate about what I do and I strive to be the teacher I know I can be. I feel
as though I was born to be a teacher; it’s my calling. I am an advocator of tough love and that is
one of my strengths as an individual because although I love children more than anything, they
learn to do what they are supposed to and to respect the people who are teaching them. I do
struggle with, however, seeing others perspectives in regards to what they believe. I have very
strong thoughts and opinions which lead to a repression of others ideas, but this is something that
I continue to work on. I am responsible and I love what I do. I wouldn’t trade my passion for
4. children for anything else. I am excited to see and experience all that is coming in my journey
with education.
