This document provides instructions for writing a 500-700 word information report on global warming, its causes and effects, and possible alternatives to non-renewable energy sources. It outlines the required elements of the report, including a cover page, table of contents, body, and reference list. Students must use at least 4 sources and include 4 citations, with no more than 20% direct quotes. A report plan must be submitted before the first draft. The report will be graded based on demonstrated awareness of context and purpose, organization, formatting, referencing, and revision.

TASK
Write a short 500-700 word information report  at least 80% written in the *writer’s voice (*includes paraphrasing)
This means that about 20% of your word count can come from direct quotes = 100-140 words.
You can use a maximum of two indirect quotes (see more information below).
This means that you need to focus on writing topic sentences which are expanded by explanation (examples & reasons) in YOUR OWN VOICE – before you use quotations to support what YOU have written.
TOPIC
Report on the phenomenon of Global Warming, its causes and effects. Suggest possible alternatives to using non-renewable energy sources.
The report question above suggests strongly three logical sections in your report!
ELEMENTS
• Cover Page – use template provided and sign before submitting
• TOC (Table of Contents) – on separate page before introduction
• Body of Report
• Reference List – on separate page after conclusion
VISUALS
One common feature of reports is the display of information in a graphic way.
 Source ONE graph or illustration that directly relates to one or more arguments made in the report. Place your visual in an appropriate place in the body text.

The Harvard Referencing system is to be used.
Check very carefully before submitting that each entry in the reference list is matched to a citation in the body of your report, and vice versa. This is a typical mistake that can easily be avoided by proper editing and your conscientious approach to task fulfillment.
 At least 4 SOURCES must be used and included in reference list. (You can quote more than once from the same source.)
 At least 4 CITATIONS must be included in the report.
 You can use a number of direct quotes but make sure that no more than 20% of your text consists of direct quotes.
 For this assignment you must not use more than 2 paraphrased quotes – this rule is designed to help you develop your own writing, rather than relying on quotes to do the writing. 
Use a single paragraph for each indirect quote to set it clearly apart from the surrounding text.

Academic writing tasks are never done without a plan that outlines the main points and lists some of the evidence to be used in the report.

DUE DATES
It is imperative that you adhere to the due dates.
Extensions are not automatically granted – you must give notice before the due date, have a valid reason and obtain permission to submit later than the due date. Evidence such as a medical certificate may have to be submitted for extensions of more than a week.
