Task 7
1. Looking back at your
preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full
product?
2. This one on the left is from my preliminary task, the noticeable difference is
from where it is , as the one on the left is outside at some benches, however the
one on the right is in a set (living room area), I think the one that we have most
recently worked on looks a lot more professional as it looks like a living room
set, and having the day and night effect on this makes it look so much better
quality. I also think that having costumes which suit the genre helps a lot as it
helps the character fit in a lot more. I feel that my editing skills and camera
work has advanced a lot more because I think that the comparison from prelim
task to my opening sequence has changed massively, from using more tools in
final cut pro, and using techniques within filming.
The comparisons to the prelim task to
the main product-
3. This here is the difference between the texts in the preliminary task and the main
product, as I feel that the credits here is a lot different to the credits in the main
task. As firstly the difference is the background, as from the prelim task the
background is black with white text, however with the main task the background
is of swings swinging which makes it look more professional and the effect makes
it connect with the genre. Also I found that the difference in the fonts within both
tasks makes a big difference because I think that having a basic font makes it look
very unprofessional as shown in the preliminary task. However having the distort
font in the main task I feel makes it look like more effort has been put into the
task.
4. Shot Reverse Shot
This here is a shot reverse shot, which is a continuity editing
technique used in conversations or even action, for example
somebody walking which you would do a long or a extreme long shot,
and then a close up of the action which in this case somebody
opening the door.
Shot reverse shot also ties in with the 180 degree rule, as you need to
retain continuity and not confusing the audience.
5. Rule Of Thirds
This here is third degree rule , the third degree rule is where the
character has there eye line where the lines meet, as then this will
make the shot nicer to look at and this makes it look a lot more
professional within this.
6. 180 degree rule
The 180 degree rule is where you throughout a scene have to stay on
one side of the action, otherwise this can confuse the audience. For
example, if two friends were having a conversation you couldn't go on
the left side of the boy and the right of the girl because that would
almost make a massive difference to the scene. This would also let the
audience get a sense of location in terms of off screen shots such as shot
reverse shot, you can almost tell the surrounding location.
7. Over the shoulder shot
This shot is a frame which shows a characters point of view normally
throughout a conversation, which makes the audience feel like there in
the characters shoes. The subject will only take up about 1/3 of a frame.
Its most common in a conversation, which will then alternate when each
of the characters are speaking, also throughout this you will need to use
the 180 degree rule to make the shot less confusing.
8. Extreme long
shot
Long shot
These shots is typically shows
the whole of the person or
object, as well as some of the
background to show the
audience the background
surrounding the character, to
give them a sense of location
throughout the scene.
This is a shot which is normally
taken quite far away, which is to
show the setting surrounding the
scene or to establish the film
opening. For example, to show the
outside of a building, or a landscape.
Often used for scenes in a thriller
action, war film or an disaster
movie.
9. Medium long
shot
Medium shot
A medium long shot, will normally
show most of the character or object,
for example showing from the knees to
the top of the character, which will
show most of the character as well as
the background surrounding the
character.
This shot will show from waist and
above, which helps focus on the
characters body movement and
body expression to gain what they
are feeling throughout the film or
scene. You can also see the
background within this.
10. close up
Extreme close
shot
This shot is mostly used in shot
reverse shot, to show the
characters action within this,
you can also see the characters
facial expressions within the
scene, you cant see much of the
background within this either.
Within this shot you can only see
half of the characters face, for
example the characters eyes, which
then makes you focus on there
eyes which will give you all of the
expression needed to show what is
happening in the film. You cant see
any of the background in this.
