Task 3: What Have You Learnt
From Your Audience
Feedback?
Marisa Gonzales
The Film Industry
Every year in the film industry, millions of pounds and dollars are spent on test
screening films. This is so that they can make sure the film is right for their target
market before they spend even more money on releasing it. Test screenings are the
opportunity a film production has invited audiences to watch their film, in order to find
out what the audience likes and dislikes through market research. After the screening,
the people involved with the film will ask for feedback on what the saw, making sure
they find out what worked well and what did not work well for the film.
Our Audience Our target audience is people aged 16-25. This is because we believe that both
men and women of this would be able to personally identify with our protagonist
(Alice) and antagonist (Tom) thus making the film more relatable to them, in the
hopes that they would enjoy it more.
In addition, during the first part of our
primary research into the target
market and the genre in which our
film sits, who we should target our
film at became clearer. This is
because of the films that were similar
to ours and who their target markets
where.
Pre-Production
FeedbackFor our campaign we had a pre production
presentation, in order to gain feedback on our
film idea. Our audience were put into groups
and each group answered some questions
giving there opinion on our film. From this we
found out what our target audience liked,
which included having a theme of red running
across the whole campaign. A few people also
said that they liked the idea of having the pill
on the tongue of the protagonist, but worried
that it would be quite challenging to take a
good clear picture of.
For our first draft of the poster and magazine front
cover, a few people said that they thought the
campaigns brand image would be helped if the
protagonists lips were darker in order to keep with the
films darkness itself. Thus, we came to the decision of
dark background on both our poster and magazine front
cover.
During the production of our
teaser trailer, poster and
magazine front cover, we
also gave our audience
another opportunity to see
what direction the film is
heading into, in terms of
plot, with the rough cuts.
Production Feedback
Post Production
After all the production for our teaser trailer, poster and magazine front
cover were done, we released our teaser trailer on Youtube. This gave our
audience the chance to watch our official teaser trailer, as well as giving us
an opportunity to gain feedback.
