Printmaking is the process of making artworks by printing, normally on paper. It involves applying a waxy acid-resist known as a ground to a metal plate like copper or zinc. Etching and linocut are two printmaking techniques - etching involves applying a ground to a metal plate while linocut uses linoleum with a design cut into it, with the raised areas creating the printed parts in a mirror image when ink is applied. Both techniques can produce pictures but etching has higher costs and takes more time than linocut.
