TASK 2
HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT
REPRESENT PARTICULAR
SOCIAL GROUPS
WHAT SOCIAL GROUPS ARE
REPRESENTED IN OUR FILM?
• The social groups which are shown in this image are
unclear because the character has got their back to the
audience, however you can tell that the character is
female due to the clothing. This also makes it look like a
young girl maybe a teenager because she is small height
wise. You cannot identify her ethnicity as it is low lighting
and she is not facing us in the scene.
HOW HAVE WE CONSTRUCTED OUR
REPRESENTATIONS THROUGH MISE EN SCENE,
CAMERA WORK, EDITING AND SOUND?
• I chose this picture because it shows a stalker and links to the other clip as
you can't see either of the characters faces which creates a sense of
mystery and danger. This also suggests that both characters don't want to
be identified showing they are trying to hide from something. They are both
also in dark costumes showing they want to blend in and not be seen as
they are able to blend in or disappear easily suggesting they could be
running away from something.
• The lighting in both screen shots is low key lighting which makes the scenes
unclear showing the characters may not want to be seen by anyone.
• The camera work we have represented is to place the camera in a high
place so that it can come across like a CCTV camera then we edited this by
adding an effect which makes it look like the character was caught on
CCTV. This suggests to the audience that the character is a criminal or
shows that no one can catch charley as she still hasn’t been identified on
camera due to her hood up and face covered.
TO WHAT EXTENT ARE OUR CHARACTERS
REPRESENTATIONS TYPICAL OF OUR
FILM’S GENRE?
• Both characters are both walking through a type of dark
tunnel or alley this could also be considered dangerous as
crimes usually take place in deserted places such as
alleyways. Both characters are also shown in the distance
which gives out a mysterious feel to the scene.
• Charley has her hood up which shows that she is more
hidden than the character in the other screen shot as he only
has a coat on with nothing covering his face suggesting that
he doesn't care about being identified which shows the
audience some criminals don’t care about being seen due to
mental health issues this shows the audience the film is a
thriller.
IN WHAT WAYS DO OUR
REPRESENTATIONS REINFORCE OR
CHALLENGE SOCIAL STEREOTYPES?
• Due to there only being 1 character in each shot it shows
they are both lonely stereotyping that these characters
could have mental health issues as they have issues and
want to be loved or be close to others this usually leads
to stalking or obsessions.
• Charley is represented as a lonely teenager who stalks
and follows two other people because she is jealous of
them and their relationship. This reinforces stereotypes
because it is common that teenagers feel lonely and this
can lead to anger and jealousy causing outbursts
towards family or more privileged people.

Task 2

  • 1. TASK 2 HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS
  • 2. WHAT SOCIAL GROUPS ARE REPRESENTED IN OUR FILM? • The social groups which are shown in this image are unclear because the character has got their back to the audience, however you can tell that the character is female due to the clothing. This also makes it look like a young girl maybe a teenager because she is small height wise. You cannot identify her ethnicity as it is low lighting and she is not facing us in the scene.
  • 3. HOW HAVE WE CONSTRUCTED OUR REPRESENTATIONS THROUGH MISE EN SCENE, CAMERA WORK, EDITING AND SOUND? • I chose this picture because it shows a stalker and links to the other clip as you can't see either of the characters faces which creates a sense of mystery and danger. This also suggests that both characters don't want to be identified showing they are trying to hide from something. They are both also in dark costumes showing they want to blend in and not be seen as they are able to blend in or disappear easily suggesting they could be running away from something. • The lighting in both screen shots is low key lighting which makes the scenes unclear showing the characters may not want to be seen by anyone. • The camera work we have represented is to place the camera in a high place so that it can come across like a CCTV camera then we edited this by adding an effect which makes it look like the character was caught on CCTV. This suggests to the audience that the character is a criminal or shows that no one can catch charley as she still hasn’t been identified on camera due to her hood up and face covered.
  • 4. TO WHAT EXTENT ARE OUR CHARACTERS REPRESENTATIONS TYPICAL OF OUR FILM’S GENRE? • Both characters are both walking through a type of dark tunnel or alley this could also be considered dangerous as crimes usually take place in deserted places such as alleyways. Both characters are also shown in the distance which gives out a mysterious feel to the scene. • Charley has her hood up which shows that she is more hidden than the character in the other screen shot as he only has a coat on with nothing covering his face suggesting that he doesn't care about being identified which shows the audience some criminals don’t care about being seen due to mental health issues this shows the audience the film is a thriller.
  • 5. IN WHAT WAYS DO OUR REPRESENTATIONS REINFORCE OR CHALLENGE SOCIAL STEREOTYPES? • Due to there only being 1 character in each shot it shows they are both lonely stereotyping that these characters could have mental health issues as they have issues and want to be loved or be close to others this usually leads to stalking or obsessions. • Charley is represented as a lonely teenager who stalks and follows two other people because she is jealous of them and their relationship. This reinforces stereotypes because it is common that teenagers feel lonely and this can lead to anger and jealousy causing outbursts towards family or more privileged people.
