2.  Within the opening scene this is a key piece of camera work
to establish the main character as he is the first person
shown, this reviles his authority and higher status over the
other characters.
 In relation to character development the fact that he is
looking down the camera shows that he isn’t reserved or
scared about anything as he wants the whole audience to
see who he is
 The effect on the audience is that it helps make them realise
the genre of the film due to the fact this close up is quite
creepy looking and matches his psychotic personality that
you begin to learn.

3.  As the scene develops more characters are discovered
through a mid-shot. This helps character development
as it shows the audience the main characters sidekicks;
you can tell these characters aren’t as important as they
stare into the distances not paying any attention to the
camera.
 This shot as an effect of reviling the characters
clothes, this adds to their personalities. Showing the
white clothing links back into the psychotic theme that
the film runs by as the white clothing stereotypically
links in with hospitals/mental hospitals. Also the fact
that they’re all dressed similarly with the same glass of
‘milk’ suggests they are of common ground and
interest.

4.  This shot establishes the whole group reviling the
body language for character development. The
upright and serious body language of the one man
in the middle shows his slight higher status, also
with his feet up on the manikin it lets the audience
know that he has the most control. In comparison
the other three characters are shown to be off in
another world with lazy body language as if they
had just finished a days work. This shows the
audience how the group of men are a team.

5.  The long shot shows more of the setting letting the
audience knows where the characters are, this
adds to the situation and adds enigma as many
questions are raised as to why there are manikins
laying about; this keeps them intrigued and
wanting to watch on to discover more.
 It develops the characters and it shows interests in
there surroundings and what they may do for a
living.

6.  The extreme long shot shows more of the
setting. The effect on the audience is to
heighten the theme of psychotic behaviour as
more of the unusual manikins are shown. Plus
it introduces the fact that there are no windows
in the room they are sitting in, this could say
that they’re hiding away from
people/authority for something they may have
done wrong- this develops the characters
personality possibilities.

7.  The constant tracking backwards once the main
characters are shown is there to show that there
are other people waiting in a line like form in
different clothing towards them- this reviles
their importance as they sit at the head of the
room. This camera work flows nicely with no
cuts and changes, this makes sure the audience
can always see the disturbing background and
what props are around to reassure that the
themes are obvious within the first few
minutes therefore the audience know what sort
of drama they’re in for.
