dark brown/black viscous liquid consisting
of hydrocarbons and free carbons
Obtained from destructive distillation of
organic materials

1) Antiproliferative activity
Tars appear to act as keratolytic agents.
inhibit excess proliferation/mitosis of epidermal cells
suppression of DNA synthesis in hyperplastic skin
Phenols are considered to be responsible.
