Cosmetics-
According to D and C Act 1940
Any article intended to be rubbed, poured, sprinkled or
sprayed on or introduced to or applied to any part of human
body for Cleansing, beautifying, promoting, attractiveness or
altering the appearance and includes any article intended for
use as components of cosmetics.

4. Herbal Cosmetics
According to D and C Act 1940, Cosmetics are defined as any
article intended to be rubbed, poured, sprinkled or sprayed on or
introduced to or applied to any part of human body for
Cleansing, beautifying, promoting, attractiveness or altering the
appearance and includes any article intended for use as
components of cosmetics.
They does not come under the preview of drug license.
Cosmeceuticals are the fastest growing segment of the personal
Care products ,These are cosmetic products which contain
biologically active principles or ingredients of the plant origin.
There is an Increased demand for the use of natural ingredients.
Herbal Cosmetics are the natural Cosmetics. In herbal Cosmetics
the herbs are used in the crude or extracts Forms.

• Disadvantages of Herbal cosmetics
1) Herbal drugs have slower effects as compare to allopathic
dosage form.
2) It requires long term therapy.
3) No pharmacopoeia defines any specific procedure or ingredients
to be used in any of herbal cosmetics.

• Hair Oil –
o The Hair oils are used for dressings and nourishing the hair.
o This preparation is generally used to increase the growth of hair
and to make them healthy.
Hair oil Should have following properties :
o They should give luster to the hair.
o Retain them soft and flowing.
o Invigorate their growth.
o Keep the brain cool .
o Should not be sticky .

stirring to form paste
Finally added colour, perfume and pack in a suitable container.
