They are also more drawn to the intellectual aspects of the mental illnesses and strange behaviors portrayed. However, psychological thrillers also attract males aged 18-35 through scenes of violence and death associated with male protagonists' psychological problems. The target age is 18+ as some disturbing characters and issues may not be suitable for younger viewers.

2. After conducting further research into psychological thrillers I began looking closely into Target

why a large fraction of psychological thriller audience consist of female this is because as they
may contain brutal violence in this genre but overall deeply focus on emotional and mental battle
in which takes place within a protagonist mind This playing a key role in mainly attracting the
female audience for e.g. black swan 2010 and psycho 1960. Usually the target audience of most
psychological thrillers is 18+, this is because they contain many disturbing characters with
psychological illnesses. However a majority of psychological thrillers attract primarily females,
aged 18-35. Research shows that women are more attracted to psychological thrillers, because
they enjoy the mystery and story behind events that take place in thriller films. It has been shown
that females prefer the intellectual side of the mental illnesses and strange psychologically
challenging behavior that features in psychological thrillers.
However psychological thrillers also target and attract a large male audience aged 18-35 due to
them containing scenes of violent nature and also death associated with the typically male
protagonist psychological problems in which appeals primarily to a male audience as males are
more or less attracted to the physical battle within psychological thrillers and less of the mental
struggle.

Psychological thrillers allow the audience to play detectives along with the film to
solve a mystery so the audience need to be attentive and have a focused mind
therefore being a key reason to why this genre in which may not ne ideal for
younger audience. A psychological thriller can include some psychological and
elaborate issues which may be disturbing for younger viewers, however it tends to
be a mental and emotional conflict rather than violence. For psychological
thrillers, the target audience tends to be a mixed gender of 18-35 years, because
of the amount of mystery and the depth of the plot.
