The survey received 165 responses, mainly from fans of a web show in the LGBT community. Most respondents were female (88.5%), with males making up only 4.8% of responses. The author acknowledges the data is biased towards female opinions. While the sample size of males is small, 83% of male respondents ages 13-18 had heard of psychological thrillers, suggesting males are a target audience. The majority of female respondents watch film regularly and have knowledge of psychological thrillers. In conclusion, the data provides more accurate insights about female understandings of the genre.

1. Analysis of Survey Response Data
In total, the survey I created and posted received 165
responses, which is a suitable sample size to analyse to get
a fairly accurate idea of attitudes towards psychological
thrillers from different target audiences.
To try and get as many responses as possible, I posted the link to the survey on a Facebook
page with over 3000 members that is for fans of a specific web show, as this would allow as
many people as possible to see and participate in this survey. The target audience of the
web show is mainly more feminine members of the LGBT community, meaning that the data
I have collected could be slightly biased as all the responses are from people of a similar
target audience. I reached out to a few people outside of this community in order to have a
slightly more diverse range of participants.
88.5% of participants are female, which I have to
take into consideration when analysing this data in
regards to potential target audience.
6.6% of participants don’t identify as either male or
female, which shows the diverse range of people
that this survey has included.
4.8% of participants were male, which suggests that
the data in the survey will be biased towards female opinions and knowledge of the
Psychological Film genre. Because the sample size is small, it does not give an accurate
indication of the male target audience.
The most common age range of males answering this
survey was 16-18, the next most common being 19-
21, followed by the target age groups of 13-15 and 22-
25.
83% of the males surveyed between 13-18 had heard of the
Pyschological Film genre, suggesting that males are a target
audience of Pyschological Thrillers.
When asked if they understood
what a psychological thriller was, 75% of the males said they had a
moderate understanding. This suggests that most males have a
general understanding of what a psychological thriller is, which
could connote that they are the target audience and they are
exposed to this genre a fair amount. 50% of the males surveyed

responded to the question asking their
overall opinion on the genre, with a range of
different answers.
Females were the main participants in the survey,
meaning a more accurate analysis of their
understanding of Psychological Thrillers is possible. The
age ranges that I can include in this analysis are very
diverse, with the main participants being aged between
16-18. The second most surveyed female age group was
19-21, but some participants were in other age ranges,
including 51-60 and even 13-15.
The majority of females surveyed watch film either very regularly or fairly regularly, but this
could be slightly biased because most of the participants are from a group that follows an
online media product, which could suggest that they already have an interest in film and
media. The percentage of females that watch film regularly correlates to the percentage of
females that know what a Psychological Thriller is.
