Males are traditionally more likely to be horror fans due to stereotypes of boys seeking thrills. However, teenage girls and young women have increasingly become horror fans recently due to horror TV shows that combine high school romance plots with horror. Horror films generally target the working class as horror provides excitement and thrills at a low cost. In contrast, the upper class typically prefers horror subgenres combined with other genres like romance or action. The overall horror audience is varied but mostly young between 16-24, with both males and increasingly females as fans.
