“IT” get thanked…
“The Digital Foundry have delivered an outstanding Build programme , maintaining an enormous uplift in
volume, speed and quality. It has been so successful it has been recognised as best practice within Aviva
and embraced by our colleagues.
In many companies, IT is seen as a service function. This is not the case in Digital. We see ourselves as a
tech business and the Digital Foundry is central to us.
Without the drive and commitment of this team, we would not have achieved a fraction of what we have
over the last two years and their continued success is crucial as we seek to disrupt our market for the benefit
of our customers”

I.T. security is fast becoming the greatest

and if it’s happening to them it could happen to you!
WHY?
Your business is a quick win to hackers, so you don’t recognise

You need to make sure that you don’t make it easy!

Welcome
Good morning and welcome to Talking Technology 2017.
This year marks the seventh year this exciting event has been celebrating the innovating ways in which businesses are using technology to grow and increase productivity.
Today is all about embracing ways in which businesses can unlock digital growth to improve how we do business and at the same time celebrate Norfolk’s growth into a thriving tech community and boast about all the exciting an pioneering tech leaders we have, many of which are here with us today.
Before we kick the morning off…
Housekeeping
First of all I’ll run through some Housekeeping.
There are no fire drills planned for today so if you do hear the alarm please treat this as a genuine emergency and please exit through the fire doors.
The toilets are located off of the corridor
Wifi is available and the login details can be found on the agenda on your lanyards.
Please keep your phones on silent but feel free to tweet using the #TalkingTech17
Thank you
I just want to take this opportunity to thank the support of our sponsors Barclay’s Eagle Labs and Computer Service Centre, without their support this event wouldn’t have been possible.
Please do take the time to visit their stand, along with our other exhibitors, and find out more about the work they do. There are also some exciting giveaways happening at stands, such as amazon echo giveaways, luxury hampers and champagne! so don’t forget to check them out.
I also want to welcome the sixth form students we have present at the event today from Wymondham College and UTCN.
Presdo Match & Twitter during event
In the spirit of the event, we have some great digital and technology experiences for you to enjoy throughout the event.
You may have noticed the lack of the traditional chamber printed delegate list… Today we’ve gone digital!
In the lead up to the event, you will have received an email detailing our event networking app – Presdo Match.
Details of how to sign in can be seen in your programmes.
Once signed in, you will see an interactive delegate list, view the event agenda, see a brief bio and picture of your fellow guests and post tweets and read event updates during and after the event. So modern.
I will just allow a short moment to allow you to download the app and familiarise yourself with it.
On with the show!
*Talk about how this event aligns well to Chris’ vision of a digital chamber?*
Today we have an exciting line up of presentations and workshops delivered by some of the most innovative and successful industry leaders in the country. Unfortunately, you may notice the absence of Steve Butcher from Microsoft, who was sadly unable to make it today.
This morning, we will hear from local and national key note speakers on the topics of: The Rise of Artificial Intelligence, Everything on Demand, Facebook for business and Bringing innovations to gaps in the market.
These will be followed by a Panel Q&A with our speakers.
We will then take a 15 minute networking break, with a chance to visit the exhibition.
After the break, you will attend your choice of 2 x 30 minute workshops taking place in the Blue and Orange Space. You will find the workshops you are booked onto on your badges.
We will then return to the auditorium to hear a series of lightning talks from the local businesses and entrepreneurs leading the way in digital innovation.
The event will conclude with a final Panel Q&A
You’re all welcome to then join us at the free networking lunch at 1pm.
Twitter will be playing a big part in today’s event
Please tweet us @norfolkchamber using the #TalkingTech17
If you would like to put a question forward to a speaker for the Q&A, please use #TalkingTechQA
First Topic – The Rise of Artificial Intelligence
So without further ado, I am excited to announce the first topic, and speaker, of the today – Dom Davis, CTO at Tech Marionette.
He aims to debunk myths churned out by Hollywood in regards to Artificial Intelligence and sets out to clarify AI and how it is being used every day by most of us here.
So please join me in welcoming, Dom, who’s most used emoji is the Trollface and whose favourite app is 1Password! (you can explain why we know these facts!!)
Welcome, Dom.
Thank you Dom
If you have a question for Dom, Tweet it to us using #TalkingTechQA and Dom’s twitter handle which will be found in your programme.
Second topic – Everything on Demand
Now getting everything on demand – at the touch of a button, fast, easy and accessible, is something which has become ubiquitous in today’s world and the need has arisen for businesses to keep up with the demand for immediacy in providing a product or service.
Opening on this topic is Dean Withey, CEO of Ubisend, who recognised, and catered for the consumer’s expectation to having everything on demand with the chat-bots he created.
What problem does he wish tech will solve in the future?
I’m a firm believer in the power of digital to change lives. Having access to knowledge is changing the way our world works and the democratisation and opening of learning opportunities is powering our growth
And his fave emoiji? Robot (obviously!)
Please welcome to the stage, Dean.
Thank you Dean
As before, if you have a question for Dean tweet it to us.
Next topic – Facebook for Business
Next up we a talk on ‘Facebook for Business’, and leading on this subject we are very pleased to have, John Carr who Leads the Small & Medium Business division for the UK and Ireland for the world’s biggest, and most influential, social networking site – Facebook.
Today John will talk about how to future-proof your business using Facebook and how you can build a compelling mobile presence.
Please join me in welcoming John on stage.
Thank you John
Final topic for the morning Gap in the Market
Our Final topic for the morning’s keynote segment is – bringing innovations to a Gap in the Market.
This topic is really epitomises today’s event – using technology to solve a problem, or enhance something, that’s hasn’t been tackled or improved. Providing something no one else has thought to, or providing it in an entirely different way it something to be celebrated.
Opening on this topic is Debbie Hall from Aviva who is a key member of the Digital Channels IT leadership team, overseeing the development of the digital experience for Aviva customers globally.
A little more about Debbie..
Her Favourite App – ASOS (love the new image search feature)
Please welcome Debbie. Again please tweet @norfolkchamber and use #TalkingTech17 if you have any questions.
Pete
Introduce the name of Digital Foundry

Thank you Debbie
Closing out this morning’s presentations, we have Kieran Ball, Prison Voicemail who will talk about how him and his co-founder, Alex, came up with an innovative solution to the difficulties prisoners face trying to keep in touch with their families.
*Encourage audience to tweet questions (last chance)*
Some tech background on Kieran. We asked Kieran what he hopes tech will be able to resolve one day.. and he hopes that one day technology will invent an autocorrect system that actually cauliflower.
Please welcome Kieran.
Thank you Alex and Kieran.
Q&A
Now it’s your chance to put your questions forward to this morning’s speakers.
Please welcome back to the stage Dom, Dean, Debbie, Alex and Kieran. *they join the stage*
Tweet Questions
We’ll begin by answering some of the question’s you’ve tweeted in. *look at iPad for favorited tweets*
Audience questions
We’re now going to open the floor to questions.
If you have a question please raise your hand and introduce your name and organization when handed the mic.
Close keynote presentations
That’s all we have time for the keynote presentations this morning.
Thank you to all of our speakers and to you for your questions
We’re going to take a quick refreshment break until 11.00am.
Please help yourself to tea/coffee, found in the yellow space and on the bar in the Atrium, and take this opportunity to visit the exhibition through into the Atrium.
After the break, we have the workshops, taking place in the Blue and Orange space. You will find the workshops you selected on your badges, if you have not got these on your badges, please ask a member of the Chamber staff.
We will then return for the rest of the programme in the auditorium at 12.20
Welcome back – I hope you found the workshops enjoyable and informative.
I’m excited to present the next segment of today’s, the lightning talks! This series of short presentations delivered by local tech pioneers will be informative and thought provoking but will also be an opportunity to learn more about the developments in tech happening here in Norfolk.
As before, please tweet any questions you have for any of the speakers by using the #TalkingTech17 and mentioning @norfolkchamber. Please try to include the twitter handles of the speakers.
To kick things off, we have Stacey Harris from Fool Proof. Stacey is the Marketing Manager of Foolproof, an experience design agency.
In order to set the scene properly, and to give Stacey a proper introduction, you may like to know:
Favourite emoji: The winky face, as in opinion without it sarcasm comes across as insincere.
Biggest IT mistake: She’s the reason they say “have you tired turning it off and on again”
Please welcome Stacey
Introduce myself, from Foolproof, experience design company
I’m here to help you focus on getting a bit of a competitive advantage in a new part of search
Unfair advantage if you implement voice search today rather than waiting
People are more comfortable using them because they are so easily accessible now – especially since the introduction of Alexa in the home
Not surprisingly 50% of searches on a mobile device are with voice
82% of mobile users use voice search for a local business
50% of mobile visitors who perform a local voice search will visit a store within one day
18% of local voice searches lead to a sale within 24hrs
20% of google searches on mobile are voice searches
60% of people using voice started using it in the last 12 months
What this is saying is that voice search is big for finding location based services
15 years ago word-error rates of 20-30% Microsoft’s latest system has reached 5.9% which is the same as a human transcriber’s
We need to find ways to interrupt people’s routines and persuade them to try something new
Texting = 40 words per minute Speaking = 150 words per minute
42% of people use voice while driving
Local SEO is more popular than ever with voice search, with consumers more frequently using searches like, “restaurants near me.”
Mobile voice search is three times more likely to be used for local-based queries than text searches
I’m going to give you three things you should be doing anyways, and a fourth one that you should be doing for voice search
Free to list and improves your ranking
Customer reviews – hours – address – photos
Google’s mobile friendly test is free and can provide tips – shouldn’t have to zoom in to read text
websites that are set up to answer questions of searchers rather than simply targeting specific keywords
listen to how customers talk about your products
create content pages that focus on longer conversational keywords
an FAQ page is good for this type of content
many voice queries begin with Who, What, Where, Why and How. Make sure you use the adverbs when creating questions for your FAQs page.
5. voice searching is still evolving, so staying on top of what it is will be key to success
Thank you Stacey

Our next speaker is Tim Robinson, CEO at Tech East.
His most used Emoji? The smiley face that winks.
And the problem he wishes tech will resolve in the future? to be able to have an app that could store all the loyalty points from all his favourite indy coffee houses.
Welcome, Tim.
Thank you, Tim
Our next speaker is James Horne, CEO at BlueSky UAV Specialists.
This will be your last chance to get in your tweets for our speakers.

Now it’s your chance to put your questions forward to this afternoon’s speakers.
Please welcome, Stacey, Claire, Tim, James and Peter.
Twitter q’s – we will begin by looking at the tweets you have sent in to ask the speakers.
and then take to the floor for audience Q’s. please raise your hand if you have a question and a member of the chamber team will come over with a mic.
Close event

Before you leave, I would just like to ask for a show of hands as to who in the audience is familiar with GDPR?
We just wanted to take the opportunity to inform you that the Chamber will be looking to hold a series of webinars and regular newsletters and an event in November regarding the big topic. We will send more details in the post event email.
