Welcome to TADSummit Asia 2020 by Alan QuayleAlan Quayle
Welcome to TADSummit Asia 2020. The focus of TADSummit is programmable communications / telecoms. Some people prefer communications, others telecoms, we do not mind either is OK.
Thank you to our sponsors for making TADSummit Asia 2020 possible: Sangoma, Asterisk, VoIP Innovations (Apidaze), and TeleSign. We’ll be featuring the TeleSign TeleTalks through the year in the TADSummit agenda, with the first presentation on the 30th April about Digital Identity For Seamless Onboarding April 30 @ 10am CET I 4pm CST.
Why TADSummit is Unique
TADSummit is unique because we explicitly have a no BS policy. The telecoms / enterprise communications industry is filled with nonsense, and we try to cut through that for the benefit of everyone involved.
TADSummit's sister event is TADHack, largest global programmable telecoms hackathon for 7 years straight. This which enables us to demonstrate year after year the massive social and commercial impact of programmable communications; and bring innovative new blood into the real-time communications industry.
If you are a CIO trying to understand CPaaS, UCaaS, CCaaS, chatbots, cloud communications, omni-channel communications. TADSummit will provide clarity and independence of insight.
If you are a technology or service provider in this segment you will learn from peers with a track record of success. To help you create the future faster.
For Telcos / CSPs (Communication Service Providers) it provides independent thought leadership on the future of telecoms today.
For developers and students, TADSummit provides an insight to an exciting technology space that can set your career on a fast-track.
For regulators and thought-leaders you’ll learn from the brain trust of the growth engine revolutionizing communications / telecoms, a $1.2 Trillion industry.
How TADSummit Asia Works
Starting 4th May we will release fresh content daily (during the week).
Presentation will be embedded in the TADSummit Asia Agenda.
The TADSummit Agenda will also link to weblogs with more analysis on the presentations and where you can discussion the presentations in the comments section.
All presentations / weblogs will include how to contact the presenter / organization, so you can discuss directly with them.
We’ll also promote the fresh content on social media daily (Twitter and Linkedin, but never Facebook #DeleteFacebookForever).
Towards the end of May, those topics which generated lots of discussion will have a dedicated panel amongst relevant experts

Nigeria... Yes, it's big, ugly, dangerous, poor, too big, too hot, too rainy. And it's Africa's biggest country and economy, so the potential for startups and entrepreneurs is huge.
During our trip to Lagos to attend the Mobile West Africa 2014 conference, we listened to the speakers, met the key players of the local tech ecosystem, and were amazed, just like all the other emerging markets we explore, by the creativity, the will, and the startups we saw.
Take the trip with us to dive into Nigeria's startup scene. As usual, we love to look back in time to see what are the milestones explaining why the country is where it is today. Oddly enough, Nigeria has long been a very isolated country, with few exports else than natural resources.
Since Nollywood and the most creative movie industry of the continent, it's changing.
Despite the kilometric list of challenges the country is facing, a lot of spots and startups are to be discussed. Wecyclers, BudgIT are among the secret gems we discovered in Lagos, and for sure, there's more than that.

Few countries can boast having a third of its GDP stored as mobile money in the hands of a telecom group. There is no miracle in the rise of MPesa, but a deep understanding by Safaricom of the social fabric of East Africa’s tech and economic hub, as well as a lots of test and try. The lure of mobile money have lots of startups competing into this space, to connect remittances, shopping and payments to the MPesa infrastructure. Other than that, Kenya is also experiencing a double motion in its innovation ecosystem: if it’s definitely a community-driven startup hub, its government is also playing a key role through laws and pharaonic projects.

Executive Summary
The New York City tech ecosystem generates economic opportunities for all New Yorkers.
The New York City tech ecosystem includes 291,000 jobs
that are enabled by, produce, or facilitate technology. Tech
industries generate 58,000 tech jobs and 83,000 non-tech
jobs, while non-tech industries generate 150,000 tech jobs.
In total, New York City’s tech ecosystem employs 291,000
people or 7% of the 4.27 million people working in New
York City. To put this figure into context, the retail sector
employs 354,000 people or 8% of total workers, while
healthcare employs 665,000 people or 16% of total
workers.
From 2003 to 2013, the New York City tech ecosystem
added 45,000 jobs, growing faster than both total New
York City employment and total U.S. employment. The
New York City tech ecosystem grew from 246,000 jobs to
291,000 jobs, an increase of 18%. In comparison, over the
same period, employment increased by 12% in New York
City and 4% nationally.
The New York City tech ecosystem generates
approximately 541,000 jobs, $50.6 billion in annual
compensation, and $124.7 billion in annual output. Of the
541,000 total jobs, 291,000 are direct, and 250,000 jobs
are generated through multiplier effects. Together they
comprise 12.6% of New York City’s total workforce.
The New York City tech ecosystem includes more than just
highly-educated workers – up to 44% of jobs in the New
York City tech ecosystem do not require a Bachelor’s
degree. 128,000 jobs in the tech ecosystem do not require a
Bachelor’s degree, with 11,600 of those being tech jobs in
tech industries.
Workers in the New York City tech ecosystem earn 49%
more than the average City-wide hourly wage. The hourly
wage for the tech ecosystem is $39.50, while the average
City-wide wage is $26.50.
Jobs in the New York City tech ecosystem that do not
require Bachelor’s degrees pay 45% more in hourly
wages than jobs with the same educational requirements
in other industries. Tech ecosystem jobs that do not require
a Bachelor’s degree pay $27.75 per hour, while the
average City-wide hourly wage for a job with the same
educational attainment requirement is $19.00 per hour.
The New York City tech ecosystem generates over $5.6
billion in annual tax revenues to the City, representing
12.3% of the City’s 2013 tax revenue. $2.5 billion comes
from property taxes, $1.3 billion from personal income
taxes, $0.9 billion from sales and use taxes, and $0.9 billion
from corporation and business income taxes.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.

There are over 62.0001 Tech meetups
every year in Europe alone.
This number has almost doubled since 2015
and shows no sign of slowing down; fueled by
new digital landscapes, making it easier for
events to attract high-profile speakers and
attendees from all over the world.
These events are bringing startups, investors,
corporates and media together; offering
opportunities for collaboration, demonstration
and business development.
As the volume of startup events continues to
expand, organizers are battling to build more
value for entrepreneurs looking to tap into
industry-leading experts, thought-leaders and
investors.

3. FUELING THE
“TECH EVENT GENERATION“
Back in June 2015,
we had this crazy idea to unite event organizers looking
to help entrepreneurs expand within the European Tech
ecosystem. Slush, Pioneers Festival, Webrazzi Summit,
Arctic15, Tech Open Air and Challengers were the first
events to trust in our vision and support this initiative.
Since 2015, we have grown this ecosystem to 30 official
partner events and are currently working with 100+ events
worldwide.
As a member of the Tech event generation, we believe
entrepreneurs can change the world if they attend the
right event, at the right time. Unfortunately, the lack of
verified and transparent information about events makes
it hard for these entrepreneurs to decide which events to
attend, and when.
We decided to change this and co-create with our
community a world where professional meetings have a
sustainable and positive impact on our society. No more
time lost at useless conferences, no more money wasted
on poorly-organized tradeshows.
If informed and accurate decision-making fosters
innovation, this annual report is our humble contribution
to a stronger innovation ecosystem in Europe.

It’s all very simple, but
also extremely valuable
in my opinion, as
