2. Soil is the topmost, fruitful layer
of land surface.
Reasons of soil destruction
Natural effects Human activity
(industry,
agriculture,
traffic)
3. Main results of soil pollution:
● Acidification of soil
● Alkalization, desertification
● Soil- and bearing surface damage
● Confusions in soils normal functions
● Reduction of soils friutfulness
● More difficult agricultural usability Improving prime costs
● Increasing of inland waters and slack water, siltation of canals and reservoirs
● Pollution of surface water and stock of water under the surface
● Landscape distruction
● Accumulation of harmful materials which might get into food
● Pollution of water and drinking water
● Animal species and forests are also endangerd with rarefaction and extinction
= conditions of life on land are getting worse
5. Deforestation
= destruction of autochthonal forest
Reasons
Submit forest areas to agricultural cultivation
Using wood as firewood and structural goals
Results
Soil erosion
Changes in coal- and water circulation
Evaporation of water supplies
Extinction of species
Desertification
6. Soil protection
The soil has to be cultivated in such way that it could satisfy both environmental and
agricultural needs.
principles:
● Soil needs protection, as hard as water.
● Soil is a limited and vulnerable source of energy so it deserves legal defence.
● Soil has several types and functions so it has to be handled properly and protected by
skilled hands.
● The utilization of soil mustn’t depend on any current economical intentions. Its quality and
fruitfulness need to be preserved for long term.
● Its technical and mechanical part need to be revised regularly.
● These elements should be a part of the basic knowledge of environmental protection in
every type of education in every level from primary school to university.
7. For instance at Primary School Tomori Pál there is a raised flower bed, which means the plants are on
a place which is raised from the normal ground because the soil there was too polluted for normally
planting. Its main cause was that there had been a battery factory before the school was built.
And it’s still not usable because those plants couldn’t be safely edible. So in order to plant healthy
vegetables and herbs raised flower beds had been built.
8. What can people do in order to protect the soil?
● ploughing of the soil in a new way of technic
● afforestation / preserving the natural vegetation
● watering
● protection of plant life
● using modern machines (which are hopefully more environmentally friendly)
● conscious handling of the waste
● purification of soil e.g. filtering cleaning/aeration/heat treatment
9. Questions:
What is soil? What is its most important value?
What are the main reasons of soil erosion?
Why are we endangerd in the pollution of the soil?
Can we do anything in order to be the soil less polluted?
Say 3 item that people can do in order to protect the soil?
10. Answers:
1. Its most important value is the nutrient content of it.The hummus part of it contains loads of minerals. It is
the lifeblood of the agriculture.
2. The natural erosion comes from the devastating work of wind and water. The artificial erosion is
acidification and the deforestation.
3. There will be more plants, herbals and other food growing on land which won’t be safely edible because
the soil will be too polluted and acidifcated.
4. Yes. We should pay attention better what we throw away. We should use more products of natural origin.
5. e.g.: NO chemical spraying, NO chemical fertiliser, composting
