regionalism
In architecture, regionalism is about the
meaning and customs of making buildings in a
specific area. These buildings, primarily houses,
are based on specific knowledge of the region's
climate, geology, geography, and topography.
For those interested in sustainable architecture,
regionalism is also a fascinating subject.
regionalism
● “You cannot simply put something new
into a place. You have to absorb what you
see around you, what exists on the land,
and then use that knowledge along with
contemporary thinking to interpret what
you see.” Tadao Ando
● Tadao Ando buildings are close to being
works of art as they relate intimately to
the natural features of the site,
integrating building material, light and
space to create one of a kind structures
that fascinate human beings from all over
the world.

House
The house have been design in AshiyaShi, Japan
on 1984, the building has Carefully placed to
avoid destroying the site's existing trees.
The structure of the building follow the were the building is rested on sloping
piece of land. Via a playful manipulation of light, the concrete responds to a
more general nature. And the room reflect the simple Japanese life
Simplicity is frequently associated
with beauty, purity, and clarity of
thought in the design context. Using
minimalistic elements that are shown
in their honest form, simple buildings
are neat and functional.
simplicity
Each of these quotes refers to
Ando's encouragement for
minimalism.
“I create architectural order on
the basis of geometry squares,
circles, triangles and
rectangles. I try to use forces
in the area where I am
building, to restore the unity
between house and nature
(light and wind).” Tadao Ando
Ando mostly used in his design
Simplified, rectilinear forms.
Ando believed that rather
than concentrating on
outward appearances, he
should concentrate on the
concept of simplicity.
simplicity
● Ando used a simple oriented rectangular plan
shape , also he used the same shape in
elevation . constructing a structure with only
six walls and a roof reflected the minimalist in
his design.
simplicity
● Ando's primary focus on simplicity and
minimalist aesthetic is reinforced by the concrete
construction. Outside of the typical church,
simplicity and a focus on light architecture and
spiritual feelings are more important to him.
Church of the Light
Kitakasugaoka, japan , 1989
represents intricacy of structure,
stored information on how the
system actually works and about its
own makeup. That inner complexity
is independent of whether or not the
system looks complex.
Complexity
“I think architecture becomes
interesting when it has a double
character, that is when it is as simple
as possible but, at the same time as
complex as possible.” Tadao Ando
He prefers to design complex spatial
circulation while maintaining a
simplistic appearance. And depend
on the complexity of the space and
simplicity of form
Complexity
● utilizing the underground environment.
We are cut off from the rest of the world;
our perceptions are sharpened; and we
are able to focus solely on the artworks.
Complexity
● Having a complex space that gather the
simple form to create a complexity
circulation system. Furthermore using
the complexity to provide a lighting to
the museum
The Chichu Art Museum
Naoshima, Japan , 2004
Ando architecture are the composition of the
regionalism, simplicity and Complexity
Conclusion
01.
Ando architecture employ these philosophy to
emphasize the important of lighting as he said
“In all my works, light is an important controlling
factor.”
02.
He doesn't believe architecture should be overly
expressive. It should be deafeningly quiet and allow
nature, in the form of sunlight and wind, to speak
for itself.
