3. 1) Make each of the five long vowel sounds: AY, EEE, ih-EEE, Oh, UOOOO
Put the letter "B" in front, so it sounds like these words: Bay, Bee, Buy, Boh, Boo.
Go on to "C" and more with: Cay, Key, Ky, Coh, Coo
Go on with every consonant to Z: Zay, Zee, Zie, Zoh, Zoo
Do the bonus three , like: Chay, Chee, Chie, Choh, Chew
2) Make each of the five short vowel sounds: Aaa, Eh, ih, o, uh
Put the letter "B" in front, so it sounds like these words: Bat, Bet, Bity, Bot, But
(but without the 't' at the end)
Go on to "C" and more with: Caa, Keh, Kih, Cah, Cuh
Go on with every consonant to Z: Zaa, Zeh, Zih, Zah, Zuh
Do the bonus three above, like: Chaa, Cheh, Chih, Chah, Chuh
You've now made almost every sound you are likely to in your speaking so your face and
throat are familiar with them all.

4. TONGUE TWISTER
Betty Botter bought some butter,
"But," she said, "this butter's bitter.
If I bake this bitter butter,
It will make my batter bitter.
But a bit of better butter -
That would make my batter better."
So she bought a bit of butter,
Better than her bitter butter,
And she baked it in her batter,
And the batter was not bitter.
So 'twas better Betty Botter
Bought a bit of better butter

5. Have a look at the flashcards and the actions hand out on the table,
please have a read and practice the sounds ,and the actions. I would like
one or two of you to come to the front of the workshop and teach the
sound and action to the rest of the workshop. Thank you.

1. Every word must contain a vowel. The vowels are a,e,i,o,u and y (y is a
consonant when at the beginning of a word). E.g. A,me.sit,no,up,my

2. When a one syllable word ends in a consonant and has only one vowel, that vowel is
short. Eg: mat, red, fish, sock, rug.
3. When a syllable ends in a silent "e," the vowel that comes before the silent "e" is
long. Eg: lake, gene, kite, rope, use.
4. When w is before "or", the "or" says "er". (work, word, - but not sword)
5. Qu are always together. Eg: queen, quarrel, quick, quiet
6. When "g" is followed by "e, i, or y," it usually has the soft sound of "j." Eg: gem, gym
7. When "c" is followed by "e, i, or y," it usually has the soft sound of "s." Eg: city, cent,
cygnet.

8. When a syllable ends in a vowel and is the only vowel, that vowel is usually
long. Eg: "la/ter, me, I, o/pen, u/nique, my.
9. When 2 consonants join together and form one new sound, they are called
'consonant digraphs'. They count as one sound. Eg: "ch, sh, th, ph, wh".
10. When a syllable has 2 vowels together, the first vowel is usually long and
the second is silent. Eg: "rain, meat, coat, res/cue, day.
NOTE: Dipthongs do not follow these rules.
