• Current popular persuasion design tactic: scarcity
• Improvisation can be good for encouraging a free flow of ideas
and also helping to let them go
• SSO (single sign on) is a temporary fix for when resources don’t
exist to create elaborate login and account systems, but comes
with issues
• Adobe Business Catalyst is a CMS for business websites that
can be a standalone application or a Dreamweaver extension
• Google likes to brag about Google.

7. “Applied Improvisation”
• Improvisation is a created method, act or process
• Using improvisation in design strongly links the product with
the process
• A design process incorporating improvisation is more
collaborative by nature
• Constantly using improvisation increases mental
responsiveness, eases “making do and letting go”
• “The better a team you are, the better the work you do”

8. “Single Sign On: Why does it suck so often?”
• Primarily used because login and account systems are difficult
to develop and implement; however, account systems offer a
deeper relationship with users
• CON: System will not connect the dots if logging in through
different services each time (e.g. Facebook and Twitter)
• PRO: Data is built over time and provided up front
• PRO: Other services will provide account maintenance
• CON: Different services provide different functionalities and
interpretations of data

9. “Single Sign On: Why does it suck so often?” (2)
• CON: Logging in through a service adds an extra step to login
process: permission granting
• CON: Services tend to lack transparency about how account
information will be used on external sites
• CON: Service platforms do not communicate to create a better
experience overall (e.g. signing in to Foursquare through
Facebook does not inform Facebook about places someone
likes to visit... or so the dude from Facebook says)

10. “Online with Adobe Business Catalyst
and Dreamweaver”
• Comes with templates and pre-defined sites; is device-aware
• Adding functionality is done with point-and-click
• Provides gallery of Web forms and button types (e.g. social
media buttons)
• Dashboard tracks all actions and features added to a website
• Able to create a database without backend coding
• Can replicate existing sites to start a new project (templates)

11. “My father had one job in his life, I will have
seven jobs in my life, and my son will have
seven jobs at the same time.”

12. “Don’t be hard on yourself about mistakes. See
what you design as a landscape. Someday it
will be washed away and redesigned.”
