2. Overview Of Survey
As I mentioned in my previous blog post, I sent out a survey to my
users. They were all teenagers aged around 14-18. Their answers
would help me create a better website that is aimed specifically to
them and I would be able to select areas of the website that they find
more useful or attracting.
In total, I collected responses from 44 people. I then used “Numbers”
(Graphing program on Mac) to create visual interpretations i.e.
charts. I did this because then I would be able to identify the results
clearer.
In this PowerPoint, I will analyze the results and infer the information
I can use directly for my website.
3. Question 1 – Have you ever visited a HK
Tourism Website focused only on Shopping?
93.2% (The large majority) answered No.
This is good as it establishes that my website
will be useful to many users because they
have never encountered a web tool like this
before. It also tells me that users will enjoy
my website more if it remains solely focused
on Shopping and not, tourism as a whole.
4. Question 2 – How would you like the
shopping website to be divided?
Sorting the website by items was the most popular
option in this question. This is extremely useful as
now I can structure my website’s layout following this.
This ensures my users will enjoy using the website to
its fullest and be most satisfied. However, there were
also a small group of users who voted for organizing
them as items and districts. Therefore, I intend to
primarily sort by items but within this, group close
places.
5. Question 3 – Which shopping district do you
visit most?
This question showed me that
when possible, I should include
a larger number of shopping
spots found in Central compared
to the other districts. This is
helpful as I can aim and produce
a website that better fits the
users and hence, become a
6. Question 4 – What do you find most
important in a website?
This was a very important question as I
needed to find out what aspect users cared
most about. The most popular answer was
“Content/Information”. From these results, I
now know that I should concentrate mainly on
the content of my website. It is also important
to realize “Appearance” got the lowest number
of votes in this question. This allows me to
allocate how much time I should spend on
each of these aspects.
7. Question 5 – What do you want this shopping
website to include most?
This question was also very important because it told me
what my users wanted most out of my website. This
means I can then decide which aspects I must include or
omit, creating a website that satisfies the users more.
“How to get there” Section had the most votes
however, clear photos, operating times and a rating
system was popular too. I should take all of these
sections into consideration when creating the website.
8. Question 6 – Which one do you prefer?
This question helped me decide on
the overall appearance of the
website. More users preferred a
website with a clearer colour
scheme instead of a large range of
different vibrant colours.
Therefore, I will also keep my
website limited to several colours.
The text colour, background and
headings should match well
together.
9. Question 7 – Would you like to be able to
comment on the reviews?
By a large extent, many users want to
be able to comment on the reviews.
Their answers were useful as I now
know that the ability to comment
should definitely be included for the
users. This relates back to my
research on existing tourism
websites, there were sites which
allowed you to comment and some
that did not. For the majority of my
potential users, commenting is
important and hence, I can better
adapt my website for their needs.
10. Question 8 – Do you prefer the pages to have
more text or more photos?
This question corresponds to the
appearance of my website pages. I was
interested to know if users preferred to
see pages with lots of information as text
or photos instead. By quite a big margin, I
found out users preferred learning
through visual images. I also think photos
are very important for a tourism website
because users want to be able to
visualize the place they intend to go to.
From this question, I realize that I should
truly concentrate on adding many photos
while creating my website.
