SURFACE WATER POLLUCTION
3
Surface water pollution is the pollution of
aquatic systems that are above ground, such
as streams, lakes and rivers.
These waters become polluted when rainwater
runoff carries pollutants into the water.
TYPES OF SURFACE WATER
POLLUCTION
4
01 02 03 04
Major water polluction
Nutrient polluction
Rivers and lakes
Marine polluction
Pathogens
6
PATHOGENS
The most serious water pollutants are the
infections agents that cause sickness and
death” .
Waterborne diseases kill thousands of people
per year. The majority of these pathogens are
a result of contaminated water – unsanitary
water associate with poor hygiene.
7
People bathing or drinking in contaminated streams are
exposed to these pathogens
Improved sanitation and hygiene education have
saved more lives than medicine.
That is, the best way to mitigate the spread of
infectious waterborne diseases is to improve sanitary
conditions.
8
NUTRIENT POLLUCTION
Nutrient pollution, a form
of water pollution, refers to
contamination by excessive
inputs of nutrients. In which
excess nutrients
usually nitrogen or phosphor
us, stimulate alga growth
9
POLLUCTION IN RIVER AND LAKES
There are many man-made and natural
pollutants that can contaminate water
sources. With regard to their origin we
recognize two categories of their sources,
• POINT SOURCE
• NON POINT SOURCE
10
• Point-source water pollution is easy to recognize
because it originates from a single source or event
and affects a specific area.
• This could be an oil spill or a discharge pipe from a
factory or sewage system. Since there is a single
point of origin, this type of water pollution lends itself
to relatively easy remediation.
POINT SOURCE
11
NON POINT SOURCES
• Nonpoint-source water pollution comes from multiple
sources and affects both the immediate and
surrounding area.
• A good example of this type of pollution is runoff
from lawns or farmland. Compared with point-source,
nonpoint-source pollution is often more complicated
to identify and address.
12
13
MARINE POLLUCTION
Marine pollution occurs when substances
used or spread by humans, such as
industrial, agricultural and residential
waste, particles, invasive organisms enter
the ocean and cause harmful effects there
14
SEWAGE
Sewage may be entering the
sea
– By direct drainage
– From inland towns and
industries.
– Tipping at sea from ships.
15
OIL POLLUCTION IN OCEAN
Oil leakage from pipeline in oceans.the
leakage may affect water.
If any accident in oil tanker
ship the particular area has
been affected. And the living
ocean living organisam is
affected.
16
Wastewater treatment is a process used to remove
contaminants from wastewater and convert it into an
effluent that can be returned to the water
cycle
And the industries outlet water has treated under the
guidance and used as other purposes.
Don't throw any into rivers, lakes or oceans.
TREATMENT OF WATER POLLUCTION
