The Case Of Johnson Johnson
Although emergencies are unexpected by nature, the true character of a company is revealed by how
they react and handle a crisis. In 1982, seven individuals died in Chicago from taking Extra Strength
Tylenol capsules, which were laced with cyanide. Tylenol became one of Johnson Johnson s most
successful products, accounting for 17 percent of the company s profits. Extra Strength Tylenol
constituted 70 percent of all Tylenol sales (Lazare). Johnson Johnson also enjoyed an incredible
amount of trust and goodwill from the public, nurtured in part by its allegiance to the company credo
of responsibility to employees, consumers, stockholders, and the community. Johnson Johnson took
full accountability for the crisis even though they were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, the company advertised in the national media for individuals not to consume any products
that contained acetaminophen. When it was determined that only capsules were tampered with, they
offered to exchange all Tylenol capsules already purchased by the public with solid tablets (Lazare).
Johnson Johnson offered a $100,000 reward for the capture and conviction of the Tylenol Killer whom
was never found (Yang). The media commended Johnson Johnson for it s handling of the crisis; for
example, an article in The Washington Post said, Johnson Johnson has effectively demonstrated how a
major business ought to handle a disaster. The article further stated that this is no Three Mile Island
accident in which the company s response did more damage than the original incident, and praised the
company for being honest with the public (Kaplan). Johnson Johnson could have easily blamed the
stores for not protecting their product and for allowing someone to tamper with the capsules. This
could possibly have led to a lawsuit because the Johnson Johnson brand was briefly tarnished from
public outcry and scrutiny, which ultimately hurt their business and reputation; something that money
cannot restore. Like most large companies, Johnson Johnson could have dismissed the situation by
preparing a simple written statement or apology in response to the seven deaths, which would deflect
their liability in the situation. In my

Creating A Decent Job At Panera Bread Essay
Finding a decent job, especially in the recessionary atmosphere that followed the 2008 financial crisis,
can be a challenge. Companies moving overseas, managers cutting costs, and a shrinking job pool are
all factors that make it difficult for anyone, regardless of education or experience, to find a steady
income. Like many teenagers entering the workforce for the first time, I found my job prospects to be
quite limited. After applying to a number of local businesses, I was overjoyed to have finally gotten a
job at Panera Bread, just a few minutes away from my house. Although I was thankful to be employed
for the first time, as I started working, I began to notice a troubling trend happening at Panera Bread.
According to the company s website, Panera Bread was founded by Louis Kane and Ron Shaich in
1981 as Au Bon Pain Co., Inc. Throughout the 1980 s and 1990 s, the company flourished along the
eastern coast of the United States and internationally, eventually becoming a dominant player in the
bakery café market. In 1993, the company acquired Saint Louis Bread Company, a chain of 20 bakery
cafes located around the St. Louis area. After a comprehensive re staging of Saint Louis Bread Co., the
company managed to increase average unit volumes by 75 percent and changed the concept s name to
Panera Bread. By 1997, it was clear that Panera Bread had the potential to be one of the top brands in
the nation. Since then, Panera Bread s stock has skyrocketed to a current market

Life Is Beautiful And The Novel `` Survival `` Auschwitz ``
Throughout the movie Life is Beautiful and the novel Survival in Auschwitz are showing the harsh
times of the Holocaust. The Holocaust affected millions of people for the rest of their lives. Both
Primo Levi (the main character in Survival of Auschwitz) and Guido (the main character in Life is
Beautiful) suffered through the dehumanization process, working long harsh hours, but the effects of
the dehumanization differ through each main character. Primo and Guido are of the Italian descent and
speak Italian. In the concentration camps, many different languages were spoken among the prisoners,
resulting in many not being able to communicate with one another. The incapacity to communicate
took away the beauty in language with the vague guessing of what another person was trying to say.
As Primo states, I understand that they are ordering me to be quiet, but the word is new to me, and
since I do not know its meaning and implications, my inquietude increases. The confusion of
languages is a fundamental component of the manner of living here...(Survival of Auschwitz, 25) .
This demonstrates that the language barrier forced on prisoners only further dehumanizes them.
Similarly, in the scene of Life is Beautiful, The guards asks for a translator to translate what he is
saying to the prisoners. Guido volunteers even though he does not know how to speak any German.
(Life is Beautiful) The reason behind this is to strengthen his humanity again by being someone
important to the

A Conversation With My Father By Grace Paley
A conversation With my Father is a story written by Grace Paley. this short story is about a discussion
between the narrator and her sick, eighty six year old father. Throughout this whole entire story, there
is evidence given to the reader that this short story is about story telling. The reader can tell that this is
a story about storytelling because in the conversation between the narrator and her father, they are
constantly talking about how a story should be written.

simple story and says to use just recognizable people and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This request that the father makes shows the reader the first evidence of storytelling in this short story.
The narrator does not like the simple style of writing that he suggested because she thinks that it takes
all hope away. She also believes that Everyone, real or invented, deserves the open destiny of life (
Paley 231). Even though the narrator does not like writing in that style, she still agrees to do it to
please her father. She starts to think of a way that she can start her story and a plot that would follow
it. Moments later, the narrator thinks of a story that has been happening for a couple of years right
across the street from her. This story includes a woman and her son, a drug addict. In this story, she
describes how the woman became a junkie in order to maintain a close relationship with her son. The
narrator ended the short story by saying that the son eventually gave everything up and left the city
making the mother feel hopeless and alone. This is not what her father was expecting, he says You
misunderstood me on purpose... You left everything out (Paley 233). The father then asks the narrator
a bunch of questions in order to include more important details about the characters in her story. The

Courtship And Marriage In The 1800 s
A young woman, Hannah, is soon to be married to William Drew of Isle of Wight County. Her family
has been planning the wedding for years, and preparing her to be appreciated as a member of society
and a successful housewife, being as Hannah has trained her whole life to be a wife and mother, and is
less concerned about love in marriage than about how it will affect her socially. Hannah has courted
William Drew as many other young women in the society of England around the 1800 s have also
done in order to take their first step into adulthood; marriage (Elizabeth Maurer). Hannah is an
example of a young girl who lived in England during the 1800 s and went through courtship and
marriage. Courtship and marriage during the Victorian days compared to today s relationships varies
tremendously and can be encompassed into general information, courtship, the effect of social class,
and divorces. The love affairs of those living in England in the 1880 s prove to be vastly different
from those experienced today. For instance, marrying first cousins was not uncommon, although

During the 1800 s English people had to follow many specific social rules in order to be considered a
respectable member of society. For instance, A single woman never addressed a gentleman without an
introduction ( Courtship ). Many of these young people met at social events like balls or through
friends and family, although the greatest formality was taken at the beginning of the relationship.
Courtship progressed through highly regarded steps until the couple felt ready for marriage. And,
often, men and women in courting rarely talked, yet rushed into marriage to realize that they were not
even fond of each other ( Courtship ). As much as courtship had an effect on the life of the English
people, the effect of social status equally changed the situations of those living at that

Greek Philosopher Plotinus s Enneads
Delaina Storey Pope Huma 1315 February 2, 2016 Enneads 1.6 by Plotinus Summary In Volume 6 of
Enneads, the Greek philosopher Plotinus gives his standpoint on what defines beauty. This passage is
noteworthy because of the way it contradicts the aesthetics of his day and age. Plotinus begins by
asking his audience to consider what beauty is. He offers the example of some things being beautiful
by the nature of the objects themselves, and something instead are beautiful by participation, such as
being virtuous (Plotinus 1). He prompts the audience to ask themselves whether beauty is sensory
since one may see or hear things they consider beautiful, what catches the attention of someone
ultimately leading to a feeling of attraction to certain things (Plotinus 1)? ... Show more content on

Plotinus refers to the other philosophers of his time stating, nearly everyone says that it is good
proportion of the parts to the whole, with the addition of the parts to the whole, with the addition of
good colour which produces visible beauty... and defines being beautiful as being well proportioned
and measured (Plotinus 1). Plotinus first rebuttal is, if beauty lies in being well proportioned, then it is
the parts put together properly that makes something beautiful so that the parts themselves would not
hold any beauty. He illustrates this by stating the parts will not have the property of beauty by
themselves, but will contribute to the beauty of the whole. He gives examples of simple parts that are
beautiful on their own such as, though an entire song is beautiful, one note may hold beauty all the
same (Plotinus 1). Plotinus strengthens his argument by asking where knowledge and virtue, two
beautiful things, were to fit into the common Greek aesthetic. Knowledge and virtue cannot be of
good proportion yet we still consider these beautiful, do we not (Plotinus

Vulgar Latin Research Paper
Over 670 million people speak the five languages known as the Romance languages, but not many
people know truly where these languages came from. It all began with Vulgar Latin, a branch of
Classical Latin, which was spread throughout the Roman Empire by the conquest of soldiers and the
movement of colonists ( Romance Languages ). The most commonly accepted reasoning for these
languages existence is that different regions of the Roman Empire slowly created their own form of
dialect of Classical Latin, which eventually became the five Romance languages (Ledgeway).
Although Vulgar Latin may be dead, it will be spoken everyday within the five Romance languages as
different versions of the original classical form (Wright). The commonalities through ... Show more

and evolving as it spread from place to place. Portuguese came from Latin that had already been

French and Romanian. Consequently Portuguese is actually a derivative of Latin that had already been
changed and adapted to another regions needs. Although it may have come from this already
transformed version of Latin it doesn t take away from the fact that it still came from a true version of
Latin (Wright). Portuguese contains some of the most basic pieces of Latin such as the use of
masculine, feminine, and neuter nouns and verbs. Portuguese, along with the other Romance

Michael Moore Capitalism Synopsis
Michael Moore is the writer and director of the highly relevant documentary film, Capitalism: A Love
Story. To me, the most interesting chapter of the film is Dead Peasants. Moore talked about capitalism
is a system of giving and taking, mostly taking . In my opinion, it sounds true for me. Moore
illustrated Irma Johnson s husband Dan ironic case. Who recently died of cancer, leaving behind Irma
and their two sons. They filmed the woman cried and sadly talked about her husband. Her husband
worked in middle management at Amegy Bank in Houston, Texas. Amegy had taken out a secret life
insurance policy on Dan s life. The bank generously named itself as the beneficiary in the event of
Dan s death. Dan s death made them $1.5 million richer by the insurance company accidentally

Johnson cried in pain that she didn t know anything and they never told her. Why the company try to

Warfare In Medieval Italy
Incessant Warfare In the 14th century, the northern Italy was divided into many conflicting city states.
The most powerful of these city states were Milan, Florence, Pisa, Siena, Genoa, Ferrara, Mantua,
Verona, and Venice. The Medieval Italy was then divided by a long battle for supremacy between the
Holy Roman Empire and the Papacy.
The Italian Wars: 1494 1559 The Italian wars are a series of wars for control over Italy that were
fought mostly by France and Spain. The violent wars began in 1494 with the invasion by Charles VIII,
King of France which devastated Northern Italy and ended the independence of many city states. He
conquered Naples but was soon drove out of the country Maximilian I of Spain and the pope of Rome.
Much of the area outside of Venice was then devastated in 1499 by the Turkish Invasion. King Louis

political situation in Italy in the 18th century was almost the same as it was in the 16th century. The
only difference was that instead of Spain ruling, Austria was now the dominant power after the War of
Spanish Succession. Another big difference was that the dukes of a mountainous region between Italy

Comparison Between Explicit And Implicit Memory
During the last few decades memory researchers have shown interest in both explicit and implicit
memory, drawn comparisons between them and explored techniques to measure them in a variety of
settings including advertising and communication effectiveness (Goode, 2007; Samu Krishnan, 2010;
Yoo, 2007). Explicit memory refers to conscious and intentional recollection or retrieval of previously
stored information or experiences, and is assessed by traditional tests of recognition and recall. In
contrast, implicit memory refers to changes in task performance or observed behavior produced by
priming effects of prior experiences without the conscious or intentional retrieval of those experiences
(Graf Masson, 2013). Memory researchers have empirically investigated this unconscious nature of
implicit memory by exploring dissociations between explicit and implicit memory (Gopie, Craik,
Hasher, 2011; Mulligan, 2012) in a sense that certain variables like level of processing and divided
attention at stimuli exposure impact explicit memory but leave implicit memory unaffected (Bechtel,
2008; Spataro et al., 2013). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to this approach, dissociation between an implicit and explicit memory test reflect
dissociation in different cognitive operations required at the time of the tests (Roediger, 1990). While
explicit memory depends on conceptually driven cognitive operations during encoding and retrieval,
implicit memory depends on perceptually driven (data or visually driven) mechanisms (Boehm
Sommer, 2012; Mulligan, 2012). More is the extent of overlap of these cognitive operations between
encoding and testing conditions, better is the performance on explicit and implicit memory tests (Lee,

Honest, meaning free of deceit and untruthfulness; sincere. All of which Iago is not. This can be

Themes In All Quiet On The Western Front
Lost Generation on the Western Front In the novel, All Quiet on the Western Front, Erich Maria
Remarque demonstrates, through the character of Paul Baumer, how World War I was one of the
bloodiest wars in history. With more than 18 million deaths and 23 million wounded, it left a lasting
memory to many. Most of these men were young, so many of the men that came back after the war
had mental issues and were lost with society. Such things like Kemmerich s boots, the red poppies,
and the senselessness of the war itself. All of these teenagers that took on war at a very young age
were known in history as the lost generation . In the beginning of the war, many of these young
soldiers including Paul and his friends did not know what to expect. As the come into camp they
notice all the little things, such as the butterflies, white clouds, the red poppies in the field, and as the

Social Reasons For European Imperialism
Imperialism by European countries took place in the late 19th century and the early 20th century.
Imperialism is a policy of extending a country s power and influence through diplomacy or military
force. European nations went after nations in Asia and Africa because of the benefits for the European
nation that took over them. For how many benefits there were for the imperial power, there were many
drawbacks to the country being taken over. Traditional way of life was disrupted, racism, and
economic exploitation was not appealing result for the colonies that were taken over. The social
reasons for imperialism varied from nationalism to the spread of a certain religion. The political

The industrialized nations of Europe competed with each other for natural resources and raw materials
such as copper, rubber, petroleum, and cotton. The European nations could no longer provide enough
raw materials for themselves, as the industrial revolution was growing, so the nations had to find
another way to get these natural resources and raw material. The nations of Europe turned to
imperialism as a result for the need for raw materials and natural resources. Imperialism was the
perfect way to gain the materials needed to keep the industrial revolution at a high. Another benefit to
imperialism, for the imperial power, was the new markets to sell the output of factories. This surely
boosted the economy of the European nation with the international markets, because investment
opportunities in newly developing areas had a greater potential for large profits than if invested in the
more stable domestic economies. Industrialists believed that access to markets, natural resources, and
investment opportunities would be more profitable if they did not have to compete with other nations,
so there was a race to see which country could gain the most and most strategic land. One example of
a strategic area of land is Great Britain s control of Singapore and the Malay Peninsula. Having
control of these two nations meant that Britain was able to protect its trade routes between India and
China. The Imperial

Full Body Scanners Do Not Lead to Safer Travel Essay
Why should anyone including my 3 year old daughter unnecessarily be exposed to cancer causing X

without my knowledge. Full body scanners should not be used in United States airports. The
Transportation Security Administration (TSA), on November 20, 2010 implemented the use of 385

The two types of scanners currently being used by the TSA are backscatter imaging technology and

The Change of Baseball Over the Years Essay
From the sandlot to stadiums seating over fifty thousand people, the game of baseball has provided

With professional baseball attracting more and more fans each season, no one knows what limits this
sport can reach. For the time being though, it has been a real home run.

A man by the name of Alexander Cartwright, a sportsman from New York started the first organized
baseball club, the
Knickerbocker Base Ball Club of New York (30). Along with establishing the first baseball club, he
added a set of written rules, which are extremely parallel to the ones of today (30). Some of these
rules, stated in 1845, include, the distance between all the bases being ninety feet, and having nine
players on each side. No longer would players be plugging runners, but now they would be tagging
them with the ball. The rule of forcing a player out at a base was also introduced in 1854. Finally,
other rules changed over time such as the length of the game change to nine innings and the distance
from the pitchers found to home plate now being sixty feet. Another major landmark in the history of
baseball, the invention of the newspaper box score, occurred in 1845 as well. With all these new
advances, the game naturally began to spread across the country (32).
Not only did the famous Civil War (1861 1865) spread our nation into the north and south, but on a
positive note, it also spread the sport of baseball all over the country. As an example, the union
soldiers would play the game as a form of recreation as the rest of the union troops and even
confederate prisoners would watch (47). Something similar to a domino effect started as the prisoners

government thought that rarely depending on export cannot develop economy anymore. The fact is,
the financial crisis reduced the consumption capacity of developed countries and they decrease the
import from China. So, it is very important for Chinese government to do the investment. This
investment plays an essential role in the consequent good economic performance of China while a
wide range of severe economic depression happened in the world. However, now, many people agree
that that 4 trillion stimulus package is a overreaction for financial crisis and lead to detrimental
consequences.

Consciousness Is A Wide Topic That Spans Many Different...
Lane McTaggart Psychology Keith Stovall November 16, 2016 Consciousness Consciousness is a
broad topic that spans many different schools of thought. Its role in the early evolution of animals
would be more related to biology than psychology. However, the role in consciousness plays in how
the human brain operates would be of great importance in psychology. In this paper certain topics
central to understanding consciousness will be discussed. What consciousness is and rather its more
than just biochemistry. Where did consciousness originates and what role did it play in evolution. The
functions that consciousness provide will be discussed, and the benefits that consciousness gives us, as
humans, will be as well. How consciousness is intertwined with being human. Also a look into
consciousness and artificial intelligence will be introduced. Consciousness is a remarkably complex
and interesting subject to discuss. We have to ask ourselves, what is consciousness? Consciousness is
more than cellular chemistry. (perlis 99) Consciousness is not fully explainable or describable by the
molecular chemistry of the brain to many researchers. Our understanding of consciousness is
intertwined with our understanding to be human in a lot of ways. Being without consciousness is
indescribable. (perlis99) So intertwined that we are not able to fully understand how to begin to look
at the world without consciousness. Pure consciousness may not exist. (perlis99) Perlis states

Will Iran Destroy The World If Not Kept
Will Iran destroy the world if not kept in check?
Throughout the past century many nations have started to strive for nuclear weapons this arms race
has become an increasingly hostile and dangerous situation to be in. This all started around 70 years
ago with the dropping of the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima by the United States of America. From
then on it has been a race for who could get the newest and best technology being nuclear weapons.
Eventually some of the top countries realized what this arms race could do and have started to
decrease their stockpiles. But there is a new threat of an arms race in the Middle East which could
prove catastrophic for the rest of the world if not kept under control by the U.S. and other G5 nations.

This could lead to Iran potentially sharing its nuclear technology with extremist groups who hate the
United States and other Western nations. While Iranian missiles can not yet reach America, Iran
having a nuclear weapons capability can potentially directly threaten the United States and its
inhabitants. Iran has publicly stated it may launch a space launch vehicle by 2015 that could be
capable of intercontinental ballistic missile ranges if configured as a ballistic missile. (The Department
of Defence, 2014). On top of this threat many officials are also concerned about the possibility of a
nuclear weapon arriving in a cargo container or being launched from a boats at a major US port. A
federally mandated commission to study electromagnetic pulse attacks has stated vast damage that
could be brought by a single missile with a nuclear warhead if launched from a ship off the US coast
and detonated a couple of hundred miles in the air above America. (Commission to Assess the Threat
to the United States from Electromagnetic (EMP) Attack, 2004). Now to stray from the threats facing
the United States there are the issues that nuclear armed Iran poses to America s closest allies in the
Middle East. First, our largest ally in the region, being Israel, is most at risk because of Iranian hatred
for them and the belief that Israel should be wiped of the map Former President of Iran Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad. (Washington Post, 2011). Than there are the

The Roanoke Colony On Roanoke Island
The Roanoke Colony on Roanoke Island was an attempt by Queen Elizabeth I in the late 16th century
to make a permanent English settlement in the New World. In March 1584, Queen Elizabeth granted
Sir Walter Raleigh a charter for the colonization of the area of North America. This charter said that
Raleigh needed to create a colony in North America, or lose his right to colonization. In April 1584,
Raleigh dispatched an expedition led by Philip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe to explore the Eastern
coast of North America. They arrived on Roanoke Island on July 4 and soon established relations with
the natives, the Secotans and Croatoans. Barlowe returned to England with two Croatans named

In 1587, Raleigh sent a new group of 115 colonists to establish a colony on Chesapeake Bay. John
White, a friend of Raleigh who had accompanied the previous expeditions to Roanoke, led them.
White was later elected Governor and Raleigh named 12 assistants to aid in Roanoke s settlement.
They were ordered to travel to Roanoke first to gather Grenville s men, but when they arrived in July
1587, they found nothing except a skeleton that may have been the remains of one of the English
garrison. They were counting on these men to help with the new colony, but when they could find no
one, they gave up hope of ever seeing Grenville s men alive. The fleet s commander, Simon
Fernandez, insisted that they establish the new colony on Roanoke. White re established relations with
the Croatans and tried to establish friendly relations with the tribes Ralph Lane had battled the
previous year. The hostile tribes refused to meet with him. Shortly thereafter, colonist George Howe
was killed by an Indian while searching alone for crabs in Albemarle Sound. Fearing for their lives,
the colonists persuaded Governor White to return to England to explain the colony s desperate
situation and ask for help. Left behind were about 115 colonists the remaining men and women who
had made the Atlantic crossing plus White s newly born granddaughter Virginia Dare, the first English
child born in the Americas.
White sailed for England in late 1587. Crossing the Atlantic

Osmosis In Potato Cells
The hypothesis tested was as the concentration of the sodium chloride solution increases, the change
in mass of the potato cylinders will decrease, from gaining to losing mass, allowing the isotonic point
of the potato cells to be found which was supported by both the group and class results. These results
showed that increasing the sodium chloride solution concentration allowed it to approach the isotonic
point and then surpass it when the solution became hypertonic and the net movement of water was out
of the potato cells.
The graph is indicative of when the potato was in a hypotonic solution (above the x axis) there was a
net movement of water into the potato cell resulting in an increase in mass. The opposite is true of
hypertonic solutions (below the x axis) resulting in a decrease in mass. Where the graph crossed the x
axis is where the potato cells isotonic point is, this is where the external solution has the same
concentrations as the internal cell cytoplasm
Osmosis is a process by which water moves through a partially permeable membrane down a
concentration gradient. As this net movement of water occurs from high to low concentrations it is a
passive process and therefore does not require energy to occur. There are three types of solutions that a
cell can be in, in relation to which direction osmosis will occur. In hypertonic solutions, there is a
higher osmotic concentration than in the cell s cytoplasm, so plasmolysis occurs. This is where water
moves out

Foreign Tax Credit For Individuals
Foreign Tax Credit for Individuals: The Foreign Tax Credit is designed to be very simple in nature, as
it only requires basic math skills to compute the tax liability with the credit. As mentioned above,
income that is earned in a foreign location may be taxed by the respective government of that location.
Therefore, because the United States utilizes a global tax system, the individual or entity may be taxed
by the foreign government and definitely taxed by the United States government. Therefore in order to
reduce the double taxation liability, the government allows U.S. taxpaying entities to reduce U.S.
income tax dollar for dollar (credited) by the amount that has been paid in income tax by a U.S. person
to a foreign government (Adams). Furthermore, there are two limitations on this credit that a U.S.
taxpaying entity must be aware of. The first limitation states that only income tax is only susceptible
to the credit. To further explain, this means taxes like Value Added Tax, property taxes, taxes on
capital or assets, and any other tax which the U.S. does not consider a tax on income are excluded
from the foreign tax credit (Adams). (However, a valuable tax planning strategy will note that these
taxes may be deductible on an individual s Schedule A for Itemized Deductions. In addition, if an
individual owns a business or rents out a building abroad, he/she can deduct these expenses on his/her
Schedule C or Schedule E). The second limitation states that an

Learning And Its Implications For Education Essay
Learning is an important process in education and in life in general. One cannot simply grow, adapt,
and manage life without learning. However, everyone learns in various different ways. Shuell (2016)
states, When a particular word is used, people usually assume everyone has a common understanding
of what the word means. Unfortunately, such is not always the case. In trying to understand the
various theories of learning and their implications for education, it is helpful to realize that the term
learning means different things to different people and is used somewhat differently in different
theories. Shuell makes an excellent point, as even though one word can have a universal shared
meaning, not everyone may see it the way someone else sees it. According to Wikipedia, learning
theories, are conceptual frameworks describing how information is absorbed, processed, and retained
during learning. Cognitive, emotional, and environmental influences, as well as prior experience, all
play a part in how understanding, or a worldview, is acquired or changed and knowledge and skills
retained. There are many different versions and theories on learning. Some of the more common
learning theories include behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism. The first theory is
behaviorism. Behaviorism is where individuals believe that learning is conducted by outward change
through behavior. According to Nemade (2007) he states, To the behaviorist, human behavior has

Margaret (peggy) Timberlake Eaton Essay example
Margaret (Peggy) O Neal (who preffered to be called Margaret) was born in 1799 in Washington DC.
She was the daughter of William O Neal, who owned a thriving boarding house and tavern called the
Franklin House in that same town. It was frequented by senators, congressmen, and all politicians. She
was the oldest of six children, growing up in the midst of our nation s emerging political scene. She
was always a favorite of the visitors to the Franklin House. She was sent to one of the best schools in
Washington DC, where she studied English and French grammar, needlework and music. She also had
quite a talent for dance, and was sent to private lessons, becoming a very good dancer. At the age of

The real cause for the disapproval was that Margaret and Eaton had been living together before
Timberlake was killed. There were also rumors that Margaret had miscarried Eaton s child before they
were married, but it is hard to say if there is any truth in that.
All of the preceding events rose many eyebrows in Washington DC, especially among the elite
politician s wives. Floride Calhoun, wife of Vice President John Calhoun, accepted a social call from
the Eatons after their marriage, but refused to pay a return visit. This was viewed in Washington DC as
a snub. Jackson s advisors encouraged him not to appoint Eaton into his cabinet, saying that his
reputation would damage Jackson s chances for the Presidency. This only angered Jackson, who
recalled the earlier mistreatment of his wife, Rachel, during his first run for the presidency. There had
been a misunderstanding about her previous divorce, and it turned out that she and Jackson had not
been married when they had thought, since her divorce was not yet final. They had in fact, been living
quite publicly in sin for over two years. They quickly repeated their vows, but the political and
personal repercussions had already taken effect. Rachel died of a heart attack less than three months
before Jackson s inauguration, and Jackson always blamed his competing party for her death.
Jackson was determined to have the Eatons accepted in polite

Sustainable Development Conceptual Framework in Tourism Industry Context in Taiwan: Resource

Chih Wen Wu , National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan
Abstract: The purpose of this research was to develop and test a conceptual framework for sustainable
development in tourism industry context to address the integration of social, economic, and ecological
elements of sustainable development and the contextual nature of sustainable development. Resource
based view theory was used to model the driving force, state and response indicators of sustainability

The concept grew out of dissatisfaction with entrenched policies of continuous economic growth and
unequal distribution of benefits and costs ( Bramwell and Lane, 1993; Hardy, Beeton, and
Pearson,2002). Similarly, sustainable development for tourism industry is found to be difficult to
define( Swarbrooke,1999), The term could be defined as a form of tourism sustained over a period
time(Butler,1999). Accordingly, tourism industry that meets the needs of today s tourists without
taking away from the future generations the resource necessary to fulfill their own needs. Thus, the
controversy exists over a definition for sustainable tourism development.
The most widely quoted definition of sustainable development is the one provided by the
Brundtland Report, the report says that sustainable development is development that meets the needs
of present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, ( World
Commission on Environment and Development,1987,p.43). According to Wall(1997) and
Hunter(1995), two important ingredients are included in this statement: human needs and
environmental limitations. For the World Commission, the major objective of development is to
satisfy human needs and aspirations for a better quality of life for all people. In other words,
sustainable development means long term economic sustainability within a framework of long term
ecological sustainability plus

Investors’ On-Off Relationship With Emerging Market Debt
Investors on off relationship with emerging market debt (EMD) was again on display during much of
2016: annual performance reached double digit heights by September, before falling back in the three
days following the US elections. Despite this seesaw pattern of returns, EMD finished the year as one
of the best performing fixed income markets, underscoring the merit of having a strategic allocation to
the asset class. Less obvious is what, if anything, investors can do to reap consistently more of the
gains, and less of the volatility. The reasons for investing in EMD are becoming increasingly relevant

All of them can impact significantly the performance and risk profile of EMD assets. Second, the
diversity of the asset class should mean more attendant alpha opportunities for investors, but the
changing nature of the performance drivers make alpha generation less straightforward than it seems.
Finally, the asset class is particularly vulnerable to short term surprises, as evidenced last year by
November s US elections. We believe EMD differs from traditional developed market fixed income in
several ways (see the chart below), and accommodating for these differences is an important step
when investing in the asset class. Different dynamics Seeking more durable EMD returns How EMD

Principles And Elements Of The Four-Armed Ganesha
The Four Armed Ganesha, an Indian terra cotta relief plaque, created during the Gupta period between
the 4th and 7th century A.D, depicts the potbellied, four armed deity Ganesha, the remover of
obstacles in Hindu mythology. The 49.1 x 67.9 x 20.6 cm representational relief plaque, conceived
during India s classical age of sculpture, was discovered in the state of Uttar Pradesh, located in the
northern part of India. This magnificent piece is a representational form of artwork. The sculpture s
subject, a pan Hindu god, emerged as a deity somewhere as early as 1st 2nd century AD but had
definitely come into prominence by the Gupta period. The deity is considered to be a patron of science
and art and is by far one of the most prominent Gods in the Hindu doctrine. The sculpture is currently
owned by the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas after being acquired from Colnaghi Oriental,
London in 1981. In this paper, I intend to interpret the formal principles and elements of Four Armed
Ganesha and confabulate my experience of perceiving this artwork.
The relief sculpture, a phenomenal archetype of ceramic art, produced purely through the usage of a
human s most basic machinery, fingers and thumbs, and through the most elemental material wet
earth, has a porous, coarse and rugged texture. Although the artwork does have a degree of heaviness
to it, terra cotta and clay do not have a high density as a result of the material s porousness. The
artwork is in a moderate hue of orange with a slight blend of tan, a pale tone of the color brown, a
color typical to artifacts and relics made of clay and earthen materials. The sculpture is an example of
a high relief, which is found throughout Hindu artworks, although not as frequently as mid reliefs/
mezzo rilievo. The use of single material throughout the artwork and the singular color adds unity to
the artwork. Although the artwork is not symmetrical it seems that the artwork would have looked
solid, settled and balanced if it had not endured damage over time. The majorly similar halves with 2
devas/devis hovering, one at the bottom and one at the top, along with the giant deity right in the
middle, seemed to have imparted balance to the artwork.

Character Analysis Of Iago In William Shakespeare s Othello
Iago is a very complex and manipulative character. This is what makes him a great villian.
Throughout the play, he carefully weaves his web and ensnares all the characters in his trap.
The root of Iago s malice is Othello not choosing him as his liutenant. He then enlists Rodrigo
who wants the affection of Desdemona to help him. He conspires a plan to take down Othello.
His plan was to get Cassio fired from his job. Iago accomplishes this by using Cassio s
weakness, alcohol. Cassio gets drunk and starts a commotion in town, which Othello comes
and handles the situation by firing him. The next part of his plan is to then make sure that Othello
sees that Desdemona and Cassio are getting close. He tells Cassio that in order to get his job
back, he has to seek help from Desdemona. He does as he is told and he asks Desdemona for
help. He uses Cassio to be Desdemona s love interest in order to get to Othello, knowing that
Othello loves Desdemona. In the play, it is stated that Cassio is a lady s man and he can handle
the ladies. So in Othello s mind, it may not be so shocking that Cassio would do something like
that. As Othello and Iago are talking, Othello sees that Cassio and Desdemona are talking and
when he approaches them, Cassio swiftly leaves. Parts of his plan was to plant thoughts into
Othello s mind that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair behind his back.
The suggestions work because in one of the acts, Othello collapses not being able to handle all the
stress in thinking about Desdemona with another man. Another example of this working is in Act
4, Scene 1, Othello gets so upset with Desdemona he slaps her and embarasses her in front of
a guest. Act 4 is Othello completely losing all his sense of reasoning and turns into an
unreconizable person. Iago convinces Othello that the best way to solve all his problems was to
get rid of it entirely. Iago tell Othello that killing Desdemona is the answer. Othello lost in self pity
and no reasoning left in his mind, agrees. Othello tells Iago, he will kill Desdemona and he
desposes Cassio. Iago s plan works and in the end, Othello and Desdemona die.
Iago s character is brilliant. Manipulation is a huge part of

Why Is Romeo And Juliet Not In Love
Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is widely known as a tragic love story where two lovers devotion
leads to their demise. While the play leads the audience to believe that Romeo and Juliet are truly in
love, certain details from the play suggest otherwise. For example, the whole reason they commit
suicide is because of their lustful thinking and not of true love. Romeo and Juliet are not truly in love
because they rush into things unprepared, Romeo was just in love with Rosaline, and they think about
themselves throughout this predicament. Romeo and Juliet rush into this relationship with each other,
without thinking about the long term outcome, which conveys their lustful thinking. Therefore, they
only think about the here and now. In Scene 3 of Act 2, it says, When and where and how/ We met, we
wooed and made exchange of vow,/ I ll tell thee as we pass, but this I pray:/ That thou consent to
marry us today (Shakespeare, 2.3.61 64). At this point in the play, Romeo is asking Friar Laurence to
marry him and Juliet that same day. Furthermore, Romeo did not even discuss this plan with Juliet.

After the publication of Phantom, the aspects of colonial / postcolonial, ethnic / Eurocentric
discourses, which were almost forgotten, began to pop up as in those belts of Australia where there
were aboriginal settlements for whom Phantom became an icon and thus they loved to read these
comics and idolise their hero. But the truth is that the brutalities of European settlement in Australia is
kept under the pretext of Terra Nullius2 and a peaceful process which finds its apt expression through
the Phantom comics where the white man s arrival and settlement on a non European space and

In colonial and post colonial British literature the phantom or ghost is a recurrent figure that
symbolises the repressed trauma attendant to colonisation that haunts protagonists in novels such as
Defoe s Robinson Crusoe and Brontes juvenilia. The famous comic strip The Phantom by Lee Falk
naturalised this figure, making him into a normal man who fabricated a belief in his immortality.
Referred to as The Ghost Who Walks, his headquarters was in a cave, which also contained his vast
treasure. The Phantom ruled the natives of Africa and India, who superstitiously believed that he was a
white god who had lived for centuries. In 1525, the first Phantom swore an oath to fight the pirates
who had killed his father and to battle all evil. Each subsequent

Identity And Access Management (Iam) Is A Vital Part Of
Identity and Access Management (IAM) is a vital part of any organization s security. Quite often, it is
overlooked or not deemed important enough to invest in. It is very important for all employees, new
and existing, to be given the proper access to the resources they need, and to be restricted from
accessing resources they do not need, in order to perform their job. If the wrong access is given, an
employee can either accidentally or intentionally change or destroy company data. Furthermore, a
weak IAM policy leaves an organization open to external attacks. IAM is one of the most important, if
not the most important, part of computer security.
There are three steps to Identity and Access Management: Identification, Authentication, ... Show

Passwords should not contain dictionary words. Most passwords must be at least eight characters long
and use two or more of the above character types. Longer and more complex passwords make
discovering them more difficult for a hacker. Even with these safeguards, there is still a problem. CEO
of Biometrics Signature ID Jeff Maynard stated that armed with that information, users can access
everything from medical records and bank accounts to credit card information, emails, and other
sensitive information. The problem, of course, is that anyone armed with the same login credentials
can also access the same information (1). This is what happened with both the Sony Pictures attack in
2014 and the Target breach in 2013 that compromised their customer s credit and debit cards.
The second authentication type, something you are, usually involves some type of biometric
information about an individual. This can be a fingerprint, an eye scan, voice print, or facial
recognition. Fingerprint scans allow for positive identification with a low probability of
misidentification. They also serve to both identify and authenticate a user. Eye scanners involve a scan
of a person s iris, or the blood vessels in a person s eye in order to make a positive identification. Both
methods are usually used for access to physical assets. Both eye

Short Story Of Seashell Bay
Me and Clog roamed the streets for days, searching for scraps of food and a dry place to sleep.
Eventually, we stumbled into a soup kitchen. From there, a warden took us to the police station, and a
few days later, they found my next of kin Harry Jewel. I d never met him before and Mummy never
spoke of him.
The Sprigs settled on her lap but she was miles away with her thoughts.
Each night, I slept on the floor in the police cell. Then one morning, they wrote my name on a label
and tied it to my dress. Clementine Beaumont, Seashell Bay. After that, a lady took me to the train
station. However, I d never been on a steam train before and it was orrible and smoky, although I do
remember the cows in the fields. You don t get them in the city. And other than me, there were about a
hundred other kids, all packed in the carriages like bully beef.
How long did you stay on the train? asked Misty.
Around seven hours. They said the journey would have been shorter if the engine hadn t broken down.
When I arrived at Seashell Bay, a man on the platform came out of his hut and offered to carry my
luggage. But I didn t have none.
Didn t have any, Misty corrected with a smile.
That s what I said. Didn t have none. The man told me to wait on the bench and then he rushed off to
open the barrier to let a car through. Of course, I thought it was Grump come to collect me.
So, how long did you wait at the station?
I stayed on the platform for three hours. At first, I thought

The Atkins Food Pyramid
Atkins diet foods are easy to find and available everywhere. There are many varieties to choose from,
whether you pick prepackaged low carb diet foods or make your own meals. No matter how you want
to do the Atkins plan, there is a solution out there for you.
You ll need to keep the Atkins food pyramid in mind when you make food choices. The Atkins
pyramid looks much different than the USDA Food Guide Pyramid. The base of the pyramid consists
of protein sources such as eggs, fish, beef, chicken and tofu. On a daily basis, your diet should consist
primarily of these foods. The second tier has low glycemic vegetables like salad greens, broccoli,
cauliflower, asparagus and spinach.
The third tier is made up of berries and avocado. Fruits should ... Show more content on

The Induction phase is the most restrictive, but it only lasts two weeks.
You owe it to your dieting success to stay within the acceptable foods list. One of the best ways to do
this is to follow the Atkins menu plans that are printed within the New Diet Revolution book. There
are also Atkins cookbooks and cookbooks that are geared toward other low carb diets that are helpful
in formulating meal plans.
It s a helpful idea to use a cheat sheet of acceptable Atkins foods wherever you go. If you are out and
about and hungry, the last thing you want to do is to try to think back in your memory to figure out
what you can and cannot eat. Carrying a list of acceptable foods with you will make finding a snack or
meal while out on the run easy. You can t always rely on low carb labels to tell you whether or not
something is diet friendly. Ever since low carb became the new diet craze, manufacturers have been
jumping on the bandwagon to attract Atkins dieters. They label items low carb to sell products and
don t have your health in mind. Relying on foods from your own personal list is the best way to stay

Extinction Of The Dinosaurs
The mass extinction of the Cretaceous period
The debate over what happened to the dinosaurs have been one of the most controversial research
topics in history. One minute, the earth was blooming with countless trees and a healthy environment,
then, in the period of seconds, all life on earth was wiped out, creating a mass extinction across the
globe (Bond, 2017). Discovering what ended the cretaceous period has been a major priority in the
scientific world, however, with enough modern day research, scientists have nailed the extinction of
the Dinosaurs down to two major theories; the asteroid impact theory, and the volcanic eruption
theory, both being extremely alike.
As research has been undertaken, scientists have evaluated all possible theories, distinguishing that
there are two major possibilities; the volcano theory and the asteroid impact theory. Both theories are
highly comparable, yet both have distinguishing qualities that indicate their differences. The Volcano
theory, affecting the wide spread area of India has been proven as a major factor to the discovery of
why the dinosaurs became extinct. Research indicates that 65 million years ago, monstrous lava beds
called Deccan traps covered the surface of the earth, over an area of 500 000 square kilometres
(Weishampel, 2017).
Each lava bed released unimaginable amounts of noxious gases, leading to a block of sunlight in the
atmosphere, resulting in all plant life on earth dying out. As a result of all plants having

Examples Of False Memory Eyewitness Testimony
False Memories and Eyewitness Testimony Once in a while we all like to reminisce and think of the
past at some point. We remember our favorite toy, our best friends, favorite movie, and past memories,
but what if what we think we know is just something that our mind has created for us. That specific
event that we were so certain happened never actually did. We remember the colors the smells the
people that were there, but it never really happened. This crazy phenomenon is called False Memory
syndrome. What is a false memory you ask? Well, according to psychology expert Kendra Cherry, a
false memory is a fabricated or distorted recollection of an event that did not actually happen (Cherry).
We often think often think that our minds are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Loftus realizes that, the length of time between the incident and being interviewed about an event
plays a role in how suggestible people are to false memory. These false memories can be formed
because the memory wasn t encoded in the correct places to begin with (Cherry). We as humans tend
to see things that aren t really there and we being to form our own opinions of an event. In some
instances, we might hear certain key words and this leads us to form complete sentences to support
those key words. Our long term memories are also susceptible to change. When information is
encoded, it can lead us to remember an event a different way. False memories are formed when,
neurons first encode in our cortex and hippocampus. Each time a memory is recalled, it is re encoded
by a similar, but not the identical, set of neurons

I Have A Dream Speech Outline
I Have a Dream was a pivotal speech delivered by the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. on August 28,
1963. 250,000 civil rights supporters attended the March on Washington where the speech was
delivered at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. The peaceful demonstration was organized at the heels
of President Kennedy s proposal of civil rights legislation earlier in June 1963. Since 1960, Dr. King
had presented several different versions of his Dream speech, but his delivery of the speech that day
would be the last version and subsequently became copyrighted material. I Have a Dream was
delivered 100 years after the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. Dr. King s belief was African
Americans were still not free 100 years later. His speech spoke of blacks and whites living peacefully
together in society, seeking an end to violence, expanding voting rights for blacks, and called for ...

King began his speech that the day would go down in history as the greatest demonstration for
freedom. What he didn t know was his speech would go down in history as well as the greatest speech
of the 20th century. But, how impactful was his speech and did Dr. King s dream get fulfilled? Dr.
King was violently targeted over his pursue of civil rights which spanned from 1955 until he was
assassinated in 1968. Some of the civil rights accomplishments since August 28, 1963, are the passage
of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or
national origin; the Voting Act of 1965 that prohibited unequal application of voter registration
requirements; the Fair Housing Act of 1968; and ending racial segregation in schools, employment,
and public accommodations. He was voted Time s Man of the Year in 1963 and received the Nobel
Peace Prize in 1964. While some might say those were personal accomplishments for him, these
honors bolstered credibility to the civil rights movement and made him a symbolic leader of African

In 1982, seven individuals died in Chicago from taking Extra Strength Tylenol capsules, which were laced with cyanide. Tylenol became one of Johnson Johnson s most successful products, accounting for 17 percent of the company s profits. Extra Strength Tylenol constituted 70 percent of all Tylenol sales (Lazare). Instead, the company advertised in the national media for individuals not to consume any products that contained acetaminophen. When it was determined that only capsules were tampered with, they offered to exchange all Tylenol capsules already purchased by the public with solid tablets (Lazare). Johnson Johnson offered a $100,000 reward for the capture and conviction of the Tylenol Killer whom was never found (Yang). The media commended Johnson Johnson for it s handling of the crisis; for example, an article in The Washington Post said, Johnson Johnson has effectively demonstrated how a major business ought to handle a disaster. The article further stated that this is no Three Mile Island accident in which the company s response did more damage than the original incident, and praised the company for being honest with the public (Kaplan). Johnson Johnson could have easily blamed the stores for not protecting their product and for allowing someone to tamper with the capsules. This could possibly have led to a lawsuit because the Johnson Johnson brand was briefly tarnished from public outcry and scrutiny, which ultimately hurt their business and reputation; something that money cannot restore. Like most large companies, Johnson Johnson could have dismissed the situation by preparing a simple written statement or apology in response to the seven deaths, which would deflect their liability in the situation. Companies moving overseas, managers cutting costs, and a shrinking job pool are all factors that make it difficult for anyone, regardless of education or experience, to find a steady income. Like many teenagers entering the workforce for the first time, I found my job prospects to be quite limited. After applying to a number of local businesses, I was overjoyed to have finally gotten a job at Panera Bread, just a few minutes away from my house. Although I was thankful to be employed for the first time, as I started working, I began to notice a troubling trend happening at Panera Bread. According to the company s website, Panera Bread was founded by Louis Kane and Ron Shaich in 1981 as Au Bon Pain Co., Inc. Throughout the 1980 s and 1990 s, the company flourished along the eastern coast of the United States and internationally, eventually becoming a dominant player in the bakery café market. In 1993, the company acquired Saint Louis Bread Company, a chain of 20 bakery cafes located around the St. Louis area. After a comprehensive re staging of Saint Louis Bread Co., the company managed to increase average unit volumes by 75 percent and changed the concept s name to Panera Bread. By 1997, it was clear that Panera Bread had the potential to be one of the top brands in the nation. Since then, Panera Bread s stock has skyrocketed to a current market ... The Holocaust affected millions of people for the rest of their lives. Both Primo Levi (the main character in Survival of Auschwitz) and Guido (the main character in Life is Beautiful) suffered through the dehumanization process, working long harsh hours, but the effects of the dehumanization differ through each main character. Primo and Guido are of the Italian descent and speak Italian. In the concentration camps, many different languages were spoken among the prisoners, resulting in many not being able to communicate with one another. The incapacity to communicate took away the beauty in language with the vague guessing of what another person was trying to say. As Primo states, I understand that they are ordering me to be quiet, but the word is new to me, and since I do not know its meaning and implications, my inquietude increases. The confusion of languages is a fundamental component of the manner of living here...(Survival of Auschwitz, 25) . This demonstrates that the language barrier forced on prisoners only further dehumanizes them. Similarly, in the scene of Life is Beautiful, The guards asks for a translator to translate what he is saying to the prisoners. Guido volunteers even though he does not know how to speak any German. Greek Philosopher Plotinus s Enneads Delaina Storey Pope Huma 1315 February 2, 2016 Enneads 1.6 by Plotinus Summary In Volume 6 of Enneads, the Greek philosopher Plotinus gives his standpoint on what defines beauty. This passage is noteworthy because of the way it contradicts the aesthetics of his day and age. Plotinus begins by asking his audience to consider what beauty is. He offers the example of some things being beautiful by the nature of the objects themselves, and something instead are beautiful by participation, such as being virtuous (Plotinus 1). He prompts the audience to ask themselves whether beauty is sensory since one may see or hear things they consider beautiful, what catches the attention of someone ultimately leading to a feeling of attraction to certain things (Plotinus 1)? ... Plotinus refers to the other philosophers of his time stating, nearly everyone says that it is good proportion of the parts to the whole, with the addition of the parts to the whole, with the addition of good colour which produces visible beauty... and defines being beautiful as being well proportioned and measured (Plotinus 1). Plotinus first rebuttal is, if beauty lies in being well proportioned, then it is the parts put together properly that makes something beautiful so that the parts themselves would not hold any beauty. He illustrates this by stating the parts will not have the property of beauty by themselves, but will contribute to the beauty of the whole. He gives examples of simple parts that are beautiful on their own such as, though an entire song is beautiful, one note may hold beauty all the same (Plotinus 1). Plotinus strengthens his argument by asking where knowledge and virtue, two beautiful things, were to fit into the common Greek aesthetic. Knowledge and virtue cannot be of good proportion yet we still consider these beautiful, do we not (Plotinus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Comparison Between Explicit And Implicit Memory During the last few decades memory researchers have shown interest in both explicit and implicit memory, drawn comparisons between them and explored techniques to measure them in a variety of settings including advertising and communication effectiveness (Goode, 2007; Samu Krishnan, 2010; Yoo, 2007). Explicit memory refers to conscious and intentional recollection or retrieval of previously stored information or experiences, and is assessed by traditional tests of recognition and recall. In contrast, implicit memory refers to changes in task performance or observed behavior produced by priming effects of prior experiences without the conscious or intentional retrieval of those experiences (Graf Masson, 2013). Memory researchers have empirically investigated this unconscious nature of implicit memory by exploring dissociations between explicit and implicit memory (Gopie, Craik, Hasher, 2011; Mulligan, 2012) in a sense that certain variables like level of processing and divided attention at stimuli exposure impact explicit memory but leave implicit memory unaffected (Bechtel, 2008; Spataro et al., 2013). ... (perlis 99) Consciousness is not fully explainable or describable by the molecular chemistry of the brain to many researchers. Our understanding of consciousness is intertwined with our understanding to be human in a lot of ways. Being without consciousness is indescribable. (perlis99) So intertwined that we are not able to fully understand how to begin to look at the world without consciousness. Pure consciousness may not exist. (perlis99) Perlis states ... Throughout the past century many nations have started to strive for nuclear weapons this arms race has become an increasingly hostile and dangerous situation to be in. This all started around 70 years ago with the dropping of the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima by the United States of America. From then on it has been a race for who could get the newest and best technology being nuclear weapons. Eventually some of the top countries realized what this arms race could do and have started to decrease their stockpiles. But there is a new threat of an arms race in the Middle East which could prove catastrophic for the rest of the world if not kept under control by the U.S. and other G5 nations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This could lead to Iran potentially sharing its nuclear technology with extremist groups who hate the United States and other Western nations. While Iranian missiles can not yet reach America, Iran having a nuclear weapons capability can potentially directly threaten the United States and its inhabitants. Iran has publicly stated it may launch a space launch vehicle by 2015 that could be capable of intercontinental ballistic missile ranges if configured as a ballistic missile. (The Department of Defence, 2014). On top of this threat many officials are also concerned about the possibility of a nuclear weapon arriving in a cargo container or being launched from a boats at a major US port. A federally mandated commission to study electromagnetic pulse attacks has stated vast damage that could be brought by a single missile with a nuclear warhead if launched from a ship off the US coast and detonated a couple of hundred miles in the air above America. (Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic (EMP) Attack, 2004). Now to stray from the threats facing the United States there are the issues that nuclear armed Iran poses to America s closest allies in the Middle East. • 24. The Roanoke Colony On Roanoke Island The Roanoke Colony on Roanoke Island was an attempt by Queen Elizabeth I in the late 16th century to make a permanent English settlement in the New World. In March 1584, Queen Elizabeth granted Sir Walter Raleigh a charter for the colonization of the area of North America. This charter said that Raleigh needed to create a colony in North America, or lose his right to colonization. In April 1584, Raleigh dispatched an expedition led by Philip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe to explore the Eastern coast of North America. In 1587, Raleigh sent a new group of 115 colonists to establish a colony on Chesapeake Bay. John White, a friend of Raleigh who had accompanied the previous expeditions to Roanoke, led them. White was later elected Governor and Raleigh named 12 assistants to aid in Roanoke s settlement. They were ordered to travel to Roanoke first to gather Grenville s men, but when they arrived in July 1587, they found nothing except a skeleton that may have been the remains of one of the English garrison. They were counting on these men to help with the new colony, but when they could find no one, they gave up hope of ever seeing Grenville s men alive. The fleet s commander, Simon Fernandez, insisted that they establish the new colony on Roanoke. White re established relations with the Croatans and tried to establish friendly relations with the tribes Ralph Lane had battled the previous year. The hostile tribes refused to meet with him. Shortly thereafter, colonist George Howe was killed by an Indian while searching alone for crabs in Albemarle Sound. Fearing for their lives, the colonists persuaded Governor White to return to England to explain the colony s desperate situation and ask for help. Osmosis In Potato Cells The hypothesis tested was as the concentration of the sodium chloride solution increases, the change in mass of the potato cylinders will decrease, from gaining to losing mass, allowing the isotonic point of the potato cells to be found which was supported by both the group and class results. These results showed that increasing the sodium chloride solution concentration allowed it to approach the isotonic point and then surpass it when the solution became hypertonic and the net movement of water was out of the potato cells. The graph is indicative of when the potato was in a hypotonic solution (above the x axis) there was a net movement of water into the potato cell resulting in an increase in mass. The opposite is true of hypertonic solutions (below the x axis) resulting in a decrease in mass. Where the graph crossed the x axis is where the potato cells isotonic point is, this is where the external solution has the same concentrations as the internal cell cytoplasm Osmosis is a process by which water moves through a partially permeable membrane down a concentration gradient. As this net movement of water occurs from high to low concentrations it is a passive process and therefore does not require energy to occur. There are three types of solutions that a cell can be in, in relation to which direction osmosis will occur. In hypertonic solutions, there is a higher osmotic concentration than in the cell s cytoplasm, so plasmolysis occurs. This is where water moves out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. Foreign Tax Credit For Individuals Foreign Tax Credit for Individuals: The Foreign Tax Credit is designed to be very simple in nature, as it only requires basic math skills to compute the tax liability with the credit. As mentioned above, income that is earned in a foreign location may be taxed by the respective government of that location. Therefore, because the United States utilizes a global tax system, the individual or entity may be taxed by the foreign government and definitely taxed by the United States government. Therefore in order to reduce the double taxation liability, the government allows U.S. taxpaying entities to reduce U.S. income tax dollar for dollar (credited) by the amount that has been paid in income tax by a U.S. person to a foreign government (Adams). Furthermore, there are two limitations on this credit that a U.S. taxpaying entity must be aware of. The first limitation states that only income tax is only susceptible to the credit. To further explain, this means taxes like Value Added Tax, property taxes, taxes on capital or assets, and any other tax which the U.S. does not consider a tax on income are excluded from the foreign tax credit (Adams). (However, a valuable tax planning strategy will note that these taxes may be deductible on an individual s Schedule A for Itemized Deductions. In addition, if an individual owns a business or rents out a building abroad, he/she can deduct these expenses on his/her Schedule C or Schedule E). The second limitation states that an ... However, everyone learns in various different ways. Shuell (2016) states, When a particular word is used, people usually assume everyone has a common understanding of what the word means. Unfortunately, such is not always the case. In trying to understand the various theories of learning and their implications for education, it is helpful to realize that the term learning means different things to different people and is used somewhat differently in different theories. Shuell makes an excellent point, as even though one word can have a universal shared meaning, not everyone may see it the way someone else sees it. According to Wikipedia, learning theories, are conceptual frameworks describing how information is absorbed, processed, and retained during learning. Cognitive, emotional, and environmental influences, as well as prior experience, all play a part in how understanding, or a worldview, is acquired or changed and knowledge and skills retained. There are many different versions and theories on learning. Some of the more common learning theories include behaviorism, cognitivism, and constructivism. The first theory is behaviorism. Behaviorism is where individuals believe that learning is conducted by outward change through behavior. The concept grew out of dissatisfaction with entrenched policies of continuous economic growth and unequal distribution of benefits and costs ( Bramwell and Lane, 1993; Hardy, Beeton, and Pearson,2002). Similarly, sustainable development for tourism industry is found to be difficult to define( Swarbrooke,1999), The term could be defined as a form of tourism sustained over a period time(Butler,1999). Accordingly, tourism industry that meets the needs of today s tourists without taking away from the future generations the resource necessary to fulfill their own needs. Thus, the controversy exists over a definition for sustainable tourism development. The most widely quoted definition of sustainable development is the one provided by the Brundtland Report, the report says that sustainable development is development that meets the needs of present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, ( World Commission on Environment and Development,1987,p.43). Principles And Elements Of The Four-Armed Ganesha The Four Armed Ganesha, an Indian terra cotta relief plaque, created during the Gupta period between the 4th and 7th century A.D, depicts the potbellied, four armed deity Ganesha, the remover of obstacles in Hindu mythology. The 49.1 x 67.9 x 20.6 cm representational relief plaque, conceived during India s classical age of sculpture, was discovered in the state of Uttar Pradesh, located in the northern part of India. This magnificent piece is a representational form of artwork. The sculpture s subject, a pan Hindu god, emerged as a deity somewhere as early as 1st 2nd century AD but had definitely come into prominence by the Gupta period. The deity is considered to be a patron of science and art and is by far one of the most prominent Gods in the Hindu doctrine. The sculpture is currently owned by the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas after being acquired from Colnaghi Oriental, London in 1981. In this paper, I intend to interpret the formal principles and elements of Four Armed Ganesha and confabulate my experience of perceiving this artwork. The relief sculpture, a phenomenal archetype of ceramic art, produced purely through the usage of a human s most basic machinery, fingers and thumbs, and through the most elemental material wet earth, has a porous, coarse and rugged texture. Although the artwork does have a degree of heaviness to it, terra cotta and clay do not have a high density as a result of the material s porousness. The artwork is in a moderate hue of orange with a slight blend of tan, a pale tone of the color brown, a color typical to artifacts and relics made of clay and earthen materials. The sculpture is an example of a high relief, which is found throughout Hindu artworks, although not as frequently as mid reliefs/ mezzo rilievo. The use of single material throughout the artwork and the singular color adds unity to the artwork. Although the artwork is not symmetrical it seems that the artwork would have looked solid, settled and balanced if it had not endured damage over time. The majorly similar halves with 2 devas/devis hovering, one at the bottom and one at the top, along with the giant deity right in the middle, seemed to have imparted balance to the artwork. Throughout the play, he carefully weaves his web and ensnares all the characters in his trap. The root of Iago s malice is Othello not choosing him as his liutenant. He then enlists Rodrigo who wants the affection of Desdemona to help him. He conspires a plan to take down Othello. His plan was to get Cassio fired from his job. Iago accomplishes this by using Cassio s weakness, alcohol. Cassio gets drunk and starts a commotion in town, which Othello comes and handles the situation by firing him. The next part of his plan is to then make sure that Othello sees that Desdemona and Cassio are getting close. He tells Cassio that in order to get his job back, he has to seek help from Desdemona. He does as he is told and he asks Desdemona for help. He uses Cassio to be Desdemona s love interest in order to get to Othello, knowing that Othello loves Desdemona. In the play, it is stated that Cassio is a lady s man and he can handle the ladies. So in Othello s mind, it may not be so shocking that Cassio would do something like that. As Othello and Iago are talking, Othello sees that Cassio and Desdemona are talking and when he approaches them, Cassio swiftly leaves. Parts of his plan was to plant thoughts into Othello s mind that Cassio and Desdemona are having an affair behind his back. The suggestions work because in one of the acts, Othello collapses not being able to handle all the stress in thinking about Desdemona with another man. Another example of this working is in Act 4, Scene 1, Othello gets so upset with Desdemona he slaps her and embarasses her in front of a guest. Act 4 is Othello completely losing all his sense of reasoning and turns into an unreconizable person. Iago convinces Othello that the best way to solve all his problems was to

While the play leads the audience to believe that Romeo and Juliet are truly in love, certain details from the play suggest otherwise. Romeo and Juliet are not truly in love because they rush into things unprepared, Romeo was just in love with Rosaline, and they think about themselves throughout this predicament.
