Sunita Williams is an American astronaut and Navy officer of Indian and Slovenian descent. She holds records for total spacewalks by a woman (seven) and most spacewalk time for a woman. Williams graduated from the US Naval Academy and has a master's degree in engineering management. She flew over 30 types of aircraft during her military career and has logged over 3,000 flight hours. Selected for NASA in 1998, Williams has spent 322 days in space over two missions to the International Space Station. She conducted seven spacewalks totaling over 50 hours. Williams holds records for the longest single spaceflight by a woman and was the first woman to command the ISS.
