A summer course at Montana State University in Bozeman, MT will help elementary teachers use archaeology to teach science, social studies and American Indian culture in the classroom. The course, "Project Archaeology: Investigating a Plains Tipi", takes place at the Museum of the Rockies on the MSU campus. Participants will learn how to use archaeological tools and concepts like artifacts, maps, illustrations, historical photographs and oral histories to engage children in scientific inquiry and civic discussion. All participating teachers will receive a complete curriculum guide from Project Archaeology, including activities that can help fulfill core requirements in Indian Education for All, social studies, science, mathematics, language arts, and art. Participants will receive two graduate credits for taking the course.
