Objectives: We examine the predictors of sickness presenteeism in comparison with sickness absenteeism. The paper focuses on the effects of working-time match and efficiency demands and differentiates the estimates by a respondent’s self-assessed health. Methods: We use survey data covering 884 Finnish trade union members in 2009. We estimate logit models. All models include control variables such as the sector of the economy and the type of contract. Results: Working-time match between desired and actual weekly working hours reduces both sickness absence and presenteeism in the whole sample that consists of workers with all health levels. The point estimates reveal that working-time match decreases the prevalence of sickness absence by 7% and presenteeism by 8%. However, the estimates that differentiate by a respondent’s health show that this pattern prevails only for those workers who have poor health. Hence, the point estimates for those who have poor health are much larger than the ones for the whole sample. Working-time match reduces the prevalence of sickness absence by 21% and presenteeism by 20% for those workers who have poor health. In contrast, working-time match has no influence whatsoever on the prevalence of work-related sickness for those who have good health. We also find that efficiency demands increase presenteeism in the whole sample. However, additional results reveal that this pattern prevails only for those workers who have good health. Conclusions: The effects of working-time match and efficiency demands on the prevalence of sickness absence and presenteeism are strongly conditional upon a worker’s self-assessed health level. Therefore, the worker’s initial health is an important attribute that has to be taken into account when one is designing appropriate policies to reduce sickness absence and presenteeism.

Assess the Level of Job Satisfaction and its Impact on Working Conditions amo...ijtsrd
According to Vroom 1964 Job satisfaction is an orientation of emotions that employees possess towards role they are performing at work place. The work environment is one of the most crucial factor which influence the level of satisfaction as well as motivation of its employees. The nature of work has changed considerably in many sectors of industry over the past decades Modern organizations consider job stress and job satisfaction of their employees as two important workplace issues. The present study was conducted with an objective to assess the level of job satisfaction and its impact on working conditions of staff nurses at Selected Hospital in District Hamirpur. A descriptive research design was used to assess the level of job satisfaction and its impact on working condition of 40 staff nurses by convenience sampling technique at Selected Hospitals in District Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh. Data was collected by using questionnaires method and interview method. Result revealed that the calculated chi square values were less than the table value at the 0.05 level of significance. There was non significant association in level of job satisfaction with their selected demographic variables and also revealed that there was a significant correlation between the level of satisfaction with selected sociodemographic variables. Percentage distribution of level of score regarding impact on work performance among staff nurses was 97.5 satisfactory and 2.5 was unsatisfactory. The study findings revealed that the majority of nurses were satisfied with their present condition of work. Since the job satisfaction is a dynamic process, the result may not be static or consistence. Working environment and employees expectations should receive attention. This study examines the influence of perceived flexibility within the timing and site of labour on work-family balance. Results indicate that perceived job flexibility is claimed to reinforce work-family balance after controlling for paid work hours, unpaid domestic labour hours, gender, and occupational level. Also given an equivalent workload individual, with perceived job flexibility have more favorable work-life balance. Likewise, employees with perceived job flexibility are ready to work long hours before workload negatively impacts their work-family balance and also these makes the workers feel as stress. Implications of those findings are presented. Also, from the feedback, an employee has suggested to given a vacation leave so as that they are getting to spend enough time with the family. The longer-term benefits of this study observe business sense to support work-life balance.

It was additionally referenced that there might be a high affinity for representatives who experience the stress, because of the job attributes, to make an evaluative judgment to leave their organization. It might be increasingly basic, in this manner, this investigation may help the organization in discovering approaches to execute a few intercessions that can improve the pressure factors that the workers appear to have in their activity. Along these lines, performance of the employees might be improved, fulfillment might be expanded, and turnover might be decreased, consequently adding to work dependability for both the employees and the organization. The two factors (mental pressure and physical pressure) have an immediate and positive effect on both occupation stress and aim to leave the activity, and an immediate and negative impact on satisfaction with the job. Then again, the investigation endeavors to distinguish whether occupation stress can straightforwardly influence the productivity of the workers.

of life face stress
Occupational stress is becoming increasingly globalized and
affects all countries, all professions and all categories of workers,
as well as families and society in general
Due to work stress, worker in coal mine not only become
unproductive and unmotivated but it is also a reason for other
mental and physical diseases. So the impact of stress on cost and
productivity is extensive to the organization, yet it is not given
much importance.
4. OBJECTIVE
To identify the cause of work stress among coal mine workers
To study the impact of demographic variable on stress experience
by workers
To study the relationship between job stress on one hand and
organizational commitment work life balance and job satisfaction
on the other hand
To study difference dimension of work stress of coal mine
workers
5. HYPOTHESIS OF THE STUDY
Hypothesis 1: There is no measurable set of factors that causes
stress.
Hypothesis 2: Factors causing stress are independent of
demographic factors.
Hypothesis 3: There is no significant relationship between work
stress and its outcomes
6. SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The study enables to arrive at the factors responsible for stress
among workers working in coal mine. This study provides valid
suggestions and measures to be taken to improve work stress of
the workers and the study is also useful in the area where the
workers face work stress can be ascertained.
7. COAL MINE BEING SURVEY

extended to other areas.
During collection of the data many workers were unwilling to fill
the questionnaire due to lack of time
9. DATAANAYSIS AND
INTERPRETATION
Testing of Hypotheses
There are no measurable set of factors that cause stress.
Hypothesis is tested by using factor analysis. Factor analysis is a
method of reducing data complexity by containing the number of
variables. With regard to the factors that cause stress, a total of 41
variables are subject to factor analysis.
10. FACTORS IDENTIFIED BASED
ON THE FACTORS
Time management
Compensation system
Intrinsic factors
Empowerment
development
Role overload
Time for himself and his family
11. Hypothesis 2: Factors of work stress are independent of demographic
variables.
Hypothesis is tested using chi – square
Null hypothesis is rejected in case of time management, Empowerment,
Development, Role overload i.e. .These factors causing stress differ depending on
the age group because chi- square values are significant.
Null hypothesis is accepted in case of compensation system and quality time for
family and himself because chi- square values are insignificant.
12. Hypothesis 3: There is no relationship between work stress and its outcomes.
Null hypothesis is rejected in case of the relationship between work stress on one
hand and outcomes such as job satisfaction, work-life balance and job
commitment on the other hand as the correlation values are significant. Therefore
it can be concluded that there is significant negative relationship between work
stress and outcomes such as job satisfaction, work-life balance and job
commitment thereby implying that if work stress increases, job satisfaction,
work-life balance and job commitment decreases.
In case of the relationship between work stress and attrition, the correlation value
is insignificant and hence null hypothesis is accepted.

15. FINDINGS
Hypothesis1: There is no measurable set of factors that causes
stress.
Finding: In order to determine the major factors causing stress,
factor analysis was applied. The results revealed that seven
factors have been identified as the factors affecting stress. They
are:
Time Management
Compensation System
Intrinsic Factors
Empowerment
Role Overload
Time for himself and his family
16. Hypotheses 2: Factors causing stress are independent of demographic factors.
Findings
Through testing of hypothesis by chi square, it is found that age is the
demographic factor for causing differences in the individuals’ stress level
whereas for other demographic variables like gender, marital status, education
qualification , it is not significant.
Hypothesis 3
There is no significant relationship between work stress and its outcomes.
Findings
Using correlation, it is found that job satisfaction, work – life balance, job
commitment are negatively related to work stress whereas attrition rate is
positively related to the stress. Job satisfaction, work life balance,
organizational commitment are at stake due to stress level in workers which
seriously affect the performance of coal mine
17. It implies that with increase in stress, intention to leave the work also
increases which impede the productivity and efficiency of workers.
Findings
About 50 % of the respondents believe that they face high level of stress
which are due to the different causes
About 31 % are dissatisfied with the low bonus, incentives and lack of
reward.
About 20 % opined that there is lack of promotion opportunity and
career advancement.
About 30 % are not satisfied with the empowerment and freedom in job.
Similarly other grey areas include training opportunity, fair performance
appraisal and role ambiguity.
It has been seen that 50% of respondent are cause stress due to shift
problems
18. CONCLUSION
