Editor's Notes

  • #2 -ER and I are friends so thank you to her for introducing me to Ketul -Thank you to Ketul for allowing me to join your agenda today -Became a Gallup certified CliftonStrengths Coach in 2017. Owned a coaching and consulting business where I provided Strengths coaching for team development to small to mid-sized organizations -Since then I joined an organization called WorkDove, who I currently contract for part-time now. WD is a performance and talent management software organization. Many of their software clients desire additional assistance with developing the talent on their teams, so we use CliftonStrengths -Top 5 -The order does matter which we will talk about soon -I am going to mention several recommendations for resources to use as a team during our time together. Would someone please volunteer to take notes on those suggestions?
  • #4 -Now I am a big proponent of becoming more self-aware of our weaknesses. Don’t think this is an excuse to forget your weaknesses This is a potentially controversial phrase but I share it with every team I coach: biggest strengths=biggest weaknesses
  • #5 What we are focusing on today is understanding and the hope is that I will leave you with resources to apply but ultimately that is up to you -What I am not is a business consultant or an executive coach. My job is to share talent expertise and resources for you to implement
  • #6 READ FIRST- Compared with those who do not get to focus on what they do best, people who have the opportunity to use their strengths are six times as likely to be engaged in their jobs and more than three times as likely to report having an excellent quality of life: Rath, T. (2007). StrengthsFinder 2.0. New York: Gallup Press.
  • #7 -Have everyone write down on a scale of 1 to 10 how often they get to utilize their top strengths in their role every day -1 is not at all and in fact they are absolutely miserable because they do not use their talents at all -10 is they get to use their talents perfectly all day every day and this role is the most perfect fit possible for their strengths -Recommendation: have someone collect, total all the anonymous numbers, and divide to get the average talent engagement level in the room -in one on ones or performance conversations, discuss this number and how to move the needle
  • #8 Explanation of Talent vs Strength -Read talent definition -Talent X Investment = Strength -What we are discussing, because you are all adults, is more along the lines of strengths. However, for most of you it is your first introduction to them so they may still be talents that you can hone in and continually develop Strength definition-- A strength is the ability to provide near perfect performance almost every single team, even under immense pressure
  • #9 -Have someone time this group game -DO NOT let people begin before you say so -The rules: have everyone write the phrase “I use my strengths ever day” on a piece of paper three separate times as fast as they can -the words do not have to be legible but they do have to be exact -right before saying “go” tell them to switch their pen to their opposite hand -Time how long it takes for every single person in the room to complete the activity. The timer does not stop until everyone is done. -Now do the exact same thing but with their normal writing hand. This is their redemption Debrief- have people describe what the first vs. second experience was like Analogy- writing with your non-dominant hand is similar to what it feels like when we are working in our weaknesses vs strengths -working in our strengths (dominant hand) feels natural, easier, faster, and it takes significantly less time
  • #11 These themes will help us begin to discover and talk about your greatest talents. Decades of research on talents and success has shown that the talents most related to potential success can be grouped into 34 themes. Based on your responses to the CliftonStrengths assessment questions, your report will identify your top five Signature Themes and a rank-ordered list of 34 themes based on intensity of talent. For example, if you have ACHIEVER in your top five, this likely means that you like to be busy and productive and that you are always striving to accomplish a lot. You may make to-do lists every day. You might strive to beat your own best record or performance. You may exhibit all of these behaviors — or just some of them. Either way, if ACHIEVER is in your top five, it is a dominant talent theme for you relative to the other themes. There are 34 themes of talent. We will spend most of our time today focusing on your most dominant talents. -4 domains of talents- -Purple=Execution Orange= Influencing* Blue= Relationship Building Green= Strategic Thinking
