Digital Storytelling Process
Digital storytelling is an innovative participatory research method that combines narratives,
group work and technology to facilitate the creation of a two to three minute compelling visual
account of an individual.
There are 7 Elements of Digital
Storytelling
developed by the Center for Digital Storytelling
(CDS) in Berkeley, California. These have been cited as a useful starting point as you begin
working with digital stories.
1. Point of View = What is the main point of the story and what is the perspective of the
author?
2. A Dramatic Question = A key question that keeps the viewer's attention and will be
answered by the end of the story.
3. Emotional Content = Serious issues that come alive in a personal and powerful way
and connects the audience to the story.
4. The Gift of Your Voice = A way to personalize the story to help the audience
understand the context.
5. The Power of the Soundtrack = Music or other sounds that support and embellish the
story.
6. Economy = Using just enough content to tell the story without overloading the viewer.
7. Pacing = The rhythm of the story and how slowly or quickly it progresses.

Steps to make your digital story for Part 2 of the final project
1.
Write two to three paragraphs summarizing:
(video length = 3-5 minutes!)
a.
Your social justice health issue being targeted
b.
Why this is important
c.
Give a call to action for the viewers
Write your story - Tips to assist in writing the story
-
Use a 4x6 index card
imagine you have 10 minutes and only the space (front &
back to draft your story). Write whatever comes out and don’t stop until either
time or the card runs out
-
OR this is a postcard. Chose a person you think this story is for and write them a
postcard about the story (start with “Dear_____”)
2.
Find pictures to help bring your story to life (give a visual to the story)
a.
Goal = find 10 – 12 pictures
b.
Avoid photographing pictures of individual faces
c.
Can use online pictures just make sure that copyright laws are not broken (i.e –
that those pics can be reused)
3.
Record your voice-over (record YOURSELF reading the script)
a.
This will be the audio in your actual digital story
b.
Re-record this as needed to make sure quality is good. (tip...pause in between
sentences to help with when you match this to your pictures/transitions)
c.
Can use music too, but be sure it does not overwhelm and copyright laws aren’t
broken
4.
Lay out your video on paper
a.
Use the storyboard template to organize your digital story – place pictures and
script together (see example I provide)
5.
Find a movie making platform to create your digital story using you.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

4. A Simple plan for a storyboard. A storyboard is simply a place to map out a story. Take a stack of index cards and place one card under each picture on your desk. Write down the main words that you'll be reading aloud as the image appears in the story. Use no more than 15 images for two minutes of video. Four to six seconds is the ideal time for an image to appear on-screen. If you get stalled writing your script, try jotting down thoughts on an index card and let the cards serve as your script. Just write one true thing, and the rest of the words will flow. You'll be surprised by how few images are needed to convey a story. 5. What is a story board ? A storyboard is a tool to help you plan the pictures and script for a movie or digital story. It contains sketches or pictures of what will be seen on the screen in each scene. The script, narration, or other information about each scene is also included on each frame. Let’s watch aslide show about how to do storyboarding. 6. What does a storyboard contain? Storyboards are visual representations that aid in the the creation process of digital storytelling. Storyboards layout images in sequential order to create the the flow of the production. They can also include technical aspects and explanations of design. Each project is unique and varies in its needs; specific requirements should be altered. The following is suggested content: a brief description, comments, audio, transition and an estimate of length.
13. This is a sample page from a commercial storyboard program for children. Follow these steps: Pick scene from timeline. Fill in title and description. Drag screen options into place. Repeat until all steps are done. Then do next scene.
