2. Bartleby the Scrivener
Question 1: From a Marxist perspective, Herman Melville s story Bartleby the
Scrivener can be interpreted as a story proving that capitalism makes it unnecessarily
difficult for its subjects to succeed, forcibly enslaves its subjects to its system, rids its
subjects of aspirations and purpose due to the impossibility for creativity, and
deceives its subjects into believing that money can alleviate emotional issues.
Because both Bartleby and the narrator lose their professions during the course of
their lives despite their desire to make an adequate living, the story exposes capitalism
s apathetic and harsh treatment of its subjects. Towards the end of the story, we
learn that Bartleby had been a subordinate clerk in the Dead Letter Office at
Washington, from which he had been suddenly removed by a change in the
administration (American Literature). Bartleby, a capitalist subject who, at the
beginning of the story, eagerly attends to his duties, was stripped of his job simply
because of a new administration. Melville reveals how capitalism as an ideology
essentially chews its subjects up only to leave the majority of them without high
paying positions; it is an ideology that perpetuates the failure of many while
advantaging few. Even the narrator, a supposedly astute Wall Street lawyer, loses
one of his professions before Bartleby s entrance into his life: I consider the sudden
and violent abrogation of the office of Master of Chancery, by the new Constitution,

3. Ethical Issues In Managed Care
Overview of the Article Many mental health counselors work with managed care
organizations (MCOs) to provide services to clients. While managed care
guidelines determine how counselors deliver services and what they will be
reimbursed for, many counselors are upset with how limiting the guidelines are. It
is a challenge for counselors when insurance reimbursement is denied because the
MCOs are not honoring DSM codes (Braun Cox, 2005). Therefore, counselors tend
to submit inaccurate diagnoses that are reimbursable for their clients can receive
services and they can be paid. However, this can lead to ethical and legal dilemmas
for counselors. Braun and Cox (2005) address this issue in their article Managed
Mental HealthCare: Intentional Misdiagnosis of Mental Disorders. The article
highlights the history of managed careand it s impact on the delivery of mental health
services in the United States. Counselors struggle with balancing the demands of
MCOs and the welfare of their clients. The authors highlight that the influence of
MCOs create ethical and legal challenges counselors in different areas. Further, the
article addressed the issues around DSM codes and MCO regulations of insurance
reimbursement. (Braun Cox, 2005). It is unfortunate that some disorders are not
reimbursable by insurance, which leaves the counselor to chose between an accurate
diagnosis that does not provide third party insurance reimbursement or inaccurately
diagnosing their client for
4. The Importance Of Art In West Side Story
Art is something that be more influential than words, it let s one express
themselves in way that words don t. Art has heavily impacted the society we live
in, beyond paintings and 2 D images. For example the musical, West Side Story had
an enormous impact on the world around it. It challenged people s ideas on
immigration and racism while capturing one s heart with a tragic love story. One a
smaller scale, a mural in Morrison, IL, remines any viewer the importance of art. Art
has transformed the social environment in America by questioning some of our
fundamental values and thoughts; however, art has also inspired Americans to live
their best life and strive for success.
The musical West Side Story is a tragic romance story that follows two gangs in
New York. One of the Jets members, Tony, falls in love with the leader of the Sharks
younger sister, Maria. This is such a big controversy because the Jets and Sharks are
rivals. The Jets hate the Sharks because they are Puerto Rican. This displays the
racism and social climate in America during the 60 s, when this musical came out.
Inmigrantes where thought of as less than but in hindsight as Americans we are all
equal. This musical is also based on one of Shakespeare s most famous play,
Romeo and Juliet. Maria s love for Tony is quickly forbidden and they have to meet
in secrecy, like Romeo and Juliet. Tony is shot by the man who Maria is supposed
to marry, Chico, and dies in his lovers arms. Tony s death showed everyone that
5. Army Hand Salute Research Paper
History
Have you ever wondered why we salute or where this gesture of respect came from?
To preserve history, senior leaders must uphold, teach, and pass down heritage and
time honored traditions because heritage and tradition is what has shaped us into the
military force we are today. This paper will cover the history of military salutes, its
evolution, and the effects that it has on the military today.
The military salute is a tradition that permeates within the military and dates many
centuries. There are two distinct salutes used by the military today. The handsalute
and the gun salute.
The hand salute is a form of recognition and greeting between members in the
armed services. There seems to be no true origin of the hand salute and it leads to a
lot of speculation of how this gesture of trust and respect came about. Forms of the
hand salute traces back to the Roman and Medieval Times. During the Roman
times when assassinations were widespread and common, in order to see a public
official, a citizen would have to raise their right hand to show that it was free of a
weapon. In Medieval times, a knight in armor would raise their visors ... Show more

Navy adopted the hand salute from the British Navy. The British Navy s earlier
salutes involved removing the headgear. When they started adding chinstraps to
their headgear, it proved too difficult to remove the headgear in each instance so
they began just touching the hat with their right hand. This gesture, officially
modified in 1820, evolved into the hand salute we use today. Some may think that
hand salute is a sign of inferiority because juniors have to always salute seniors first
but it is not. Juniors salute first as a military courtesy towards seniors and it is
always required to be returned. A few other instances where the hand salute is
rendered is during the National Anthem or foreign national anthem, To the Color ,
Hail to the Chief , rendering reports, and raising and lowering of the

While almost the entire Iraq war was mired in controversy, no one moment was

magnum opus with urban combat rivaling what Marines faced in 1968 on the
streets of Hue city Vietnam during the Tet offensive (Head, 105). While many
debate the war overall the focus of this essay is on the battle itself and how the US

Millions were made homeless by the huge waves that swept houses and cars away. It
was estimated that the costs to repair all damage would be at approximately $5 billion.
Another human factor is the earthquake mitigation through education and
community awareness. Schemes such as the one in Sichuan, China helped to save
thousands of lives. The weekly intervals of training in case of an earthquake,
educated children and adults of what to do when the quake struck. Evacuation
schemes such as the window slides or hiding under tables was reported to have
saved thousands when the magnitude 8.0 hit the area in 2008. However, some were
not saved due to their unwillingness to move and evacuate the area. Some people of
the village, notably the poorer and elderly refused to leave as they didn t want to
leave all they owned behind.
The proximity of settlements to an area of seismic activity and the growth of
urbanisation are two more human factors that affect the impacts greatly. These
factors can cause many fatalities, but the impacts can be decreased by using land use
regulations. These include land use zoning and exclusion zones, where there are laws
as to the type and size of buildings able to be built in that area. This prevents many
fatalities unlike in the Gujarat Earthquake, where it was estimated that 800,000
buildings were seriously damaged.

For eras women have been involved in every type of war and conflict imaginable
their main role was being a trained nurse. Australian nurses have dealt with many
types of issues in the war, including the wounded, the dead and the sick (see
appendix 1). They have aided in Australia, war zones throughout the world, on
hospital ships/transports and buildings. When the Second World War started,
nurses again volunteered to be a part of it (see appendix 2). They did this as they
were motivated by an appreciation of duty and a desire to do their bit In the war.

9. Main Reasons For European Exploration In The 15th And
16th...
The Main Cause of European Exploration The European economic motivation was
the main cause of European exploration in the 15th and 16th centuries. New trade,
and the search for gold and spices were the three main motives behind Europe s
thirst for exploration and discovery. Trade with Asia and Africa was shrinking,
Europe s gold supply was drained, and spices were growing in demand, forcing
Europe to send explorers in search of new resources and trade. Trade was the first
motive for European exploration. During the 15th and 16th centuries, the Italians
and Muslims had control of the Mediterranean. Because of this, countries such as
Portugal lacked access to Asian trade routes, since they lacked the resources to
break through the Italian dominated trade of the Mediterranean (Arnold 4) Such
countries were forced to explore and expand in order to find new routes around the
world to reach Asia, causing them to search for goods and trade beyond their
borders, acquiring land and resources along the way, which in turn expanded
European trade and economy. Another factor was Europe s search for new trade.
European merchants discovered that they could no longer sell their merchandise in
Asia and Africa, as many of their products were deemed inferior to their African and
Asian counterparts. They attempted to sell crude woollen cloth in Asian markets
accustomed to fine silks and calicoes (Arnold 3) The Europeans needed a new
market, motivating them to send explorers such as
10. Middle Range Nursing Theory Essay
Middle Range Theory by definition is less abstract than a grand theory. It is more
concrete, more usable and closer to practice. Often a middle range theory is
developed from a grand theory. The concepts and relationship in a middle range
theory are directed more at a specific nursing situation than in the preceding types of
theory. Middle range theories are more amenable to testing through research (Fawcett,
2005).
Erickson, Tomlin and Swain developed the Modeling/Role Modeling (MRM) has

Flannery O Connor was a devout catholic whose writing was a reflection of the

achieved awards. O Connor s stories, A Good Man Is Hard to Find and Good Country
People are two examples of the talented womans works that gained popularity over
the years. Through analyzing these short stories, one could insinuate that there are
many commonalities between the setting, characters, and themes of these stories.
In A Good ManIs Hard to Find, O Connor immediately introduces an older woman
who was completely against taking a family trip to Florida. Instead she was
determined to redirect their trip toward Tennessee. O Connor includes brief details
of the woman that could lead the reader to believe that she isn t completely sane.
For example, as the old lady gets into the car, she was hiding a basket with Pitty

woman also overdressed herself to the point where she was completely gaudy in
case of an accident, anyone seeing her dead on the highway would know at once
that she was a lady, (612). These silly characteristics create a witty scene for the road

grandmother discusses the unlikelihood of finding a trustworthy man during such a

To Infinity and Beyond!
From the discovery of fire by ancient ancestors to modern space explorations, it has
been curiosity and the pursuit for a better future that has made humanity explores the
vast, never ending space. As Neil Armstrong once said, Mystery creates wonder and
wonder is the basis of man s desire to understand. Curiosity, exploration, reaching new
heights, discovering new things, and unraveling the deepest mysteries is core part of
human characteristics. Is space exploration really desirable at a time when so much
needs doing on Earth? It is a rather often asked question by many Americans.
However, before one can criticize the efforts in space, regarding monetary efforts, one
must take into consideration how the human species have advanced. Indeed, Space
exploration should be funded because of the importance of the Mars programs and
new technology.
As the U.S and Soviet Union entered into the Cold War in the late of 1940 s, the
idea of preparedness was central in both nations, leading to a decades long arms
race, one thread of which led to Sputnik and the 1960 s space race 1957 (Collins

of technology. In particular, the search for new life in the boundless, three

astronomy has developed into a broad science that not only offers an understanding of

Lance Armstrong and Macbeth have many similarities through the urge for ambition
in their lives. Armstrong and Macbeth both lost fans/friends throughout their journeys
in life. Armstrong s use of drugs made people respect him a lot less and not like him.
Macbeth s harmful ruling made everyone not like him and want him dead. These
equate because each were not liked by others and lost important figures in their lives
that lead to their downfall. Additionally, Armstrong and Macbethboth used their
power beyond control in a way that harmed themselves and or others. Macbethkilled

Another connection between Lance and Armstrong is that greed was their tragic
flaw. Macbeth and his wife were very greedy and weren t satisfied with the power
they held. And they weren t going to stop until they ruled the whole kingdom. Him
and his wife would go to any measure to do so. Armstrong had the desire to be the
best in cycling, even if that meant cheating. He sued, bullied, and killed careers of
innocent people. Not knowing all those people were just telling the truth. It s sad to
see on the greatest American success stories to all be a lie. Everything was taken
away from Armstrong; money, sponsors, supporters, and respect. Macbeth s tragic
downfall ended in death. Both characters had a spiraling downfall and this is why
cheaters and liars never win.
There are also many differences between Macbeth and Armstrong that play as a role
in their way to the top. One being Armstrong admitted to his actions and did an
interview explaining why he chose to do so. Armstrong explains that without having
cancer he would ve never have won the Tour de Francehe also said if he were to redo
it, he wouldn t have changed a thing. Macbeth on the other hand hid the fact that he

A good turbo has the ability to make and engine s rpms to jump up nearly 30 times
faster. The compressor wheel and turbine wheel work in unison to supercharge the

which is connected to the compressor wheel which compresses the ambient air

Uses of Virtualisation in Operating Systems
Virtualisation in operating systems is a wide ranging subject relating to many topics
within operating systems. Waldspurger and Rosenblum define virtualisation in their
article I/O virtualization as decoupling the logical from the physical, introducing a
level of indirection between the abstract and the concrete. [1] In this essay I will
briefly outline some of the many types of Virtualisation as well as talk about benefits
and limitations virtualisation in general.
Due to the term virtualisation referring to so many different areas within operating
system, talking about the History of this topic is very hard. In Modern Operating
Systems, Andrew Tanenbaum states visualization, which is more than 40 years old
[6]. This book was published in 2009, implying that virtualisation started roughly in
the 1969. However, spooling which is an example of I/O virtualisation existed in
IBMs SPOOL system. IBM copyrighted the SPOOL system in 1960 suggesting
Virtualisation started on or before the 1960s [7]. From the context of Tanenbaum s
book, it is clear that he is speaking of virtual machine technology which for the
confines of this essay will be considered a subset of virtualisation. Throughout the
history of computers more virtualisation techniques have been invented from
spooling to virtualised I/O to virtual machines and other things like RAID. When
talking about virtualisation in operating systems, virtual memory is perhaps the

21. The Cells And Skeletal Muscle
Neurons and Skeletal Muscle
The human body uses unspecialised sperm cells which come from egg cell from
the female or sperm cell form the male (zygote) then they specialise into neuron and
skeletal muscle or any other type of cell. The stem cells are the building blocks they
go through a various process called stem cells differentiation which allows them to be
specialise.
The zygote turns into a morula which is called a totipotent; totipotent is a whole
organism which can turn into multiple types of cells.
The totipotent cells then turn into a blastocyst by many types of cell division, which
forms a lot of cells in side.
The cells that are placed inside are called pulripotent (inner mass cells) the cues
decide if the pulripotent is internal by switching on the genes which decide what type
of cell it is.
Which then becomes a unipotent; this is when it becomes specialised cell that makes
up the body.
This is called differentiation so it s when unspecialised cells for different types of
function, this is what gives people or organism an advantage so they can cope with

Neurons cells are differentiated cells. The stem cells either become a motor neurone,
sensory Neurone or relay neurone. These cells are specialised for the function by they

the straits of Gibraltar is noticeable and identifiable by the exchange of warm and

one of the kids, named Margot, used to live on Earth. She remembers what the sun

24. Natural Gas Transmission Pipeline Network System Essay
Natural gas transmission pipeline network system.
Introduction
One of the most widely used source of energy in world is natural gas (NG) and is
due to its environment friendly characteristics. The distance between the resources
and the place where it is needed is usually far apart. It is more economical to
transport natural gas by pipeline compared to Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) for short
distance. In transmission pipeline network system (TPNS), gas flow through various
devices such as regulators, compressors, and valves. Through TPNS, the gas pressure
reduces result of the friction with pipe wall and heat transfer between the gas and the
surroundings.
Minimizing energy consumption and maximizing flow rate is the main factor for the
design and operation of TPNS. To determine this, TPNS simulation is used for
various configurations.
Main parts of TPNS can be divided into pipes and non pipe elements. The involving
of non pine elements make the calculation more complex. One of the non pipe
elements is the compressor station, and is consider the key elements for the analysis.
More equations is involved when considering the non pipe elements. Figure 1.
General procedure for mathematical formulation of TPNS simulation.
Mathematical Formulations
Pipe flow equation is one of the main equations for the simulations. The principle of
flow analysis of gas is used to derive the equations. Factors such as gas properties,
friction factor and geometry of the pipe is affecting the flow

EDN100 Contemporary Issues in Education
Marginalised Youth and Their Education in Society
Marginalisation involves the exclusion and isolation of the young person sector, from
the political, social and economic mainstreams of the world. Particularly the youth
experience much higher rates of unemployment, and very often are deemed
unsuccessful due to certain societal pressures and influences that will be discussed
within this essay. Recently in April 2015 an event was organised, where participants
were only of the youth sector. They discussed the concern and awareness of youth
marginalisation in the Philippians. One hundred and thirty people, had the common
consensus that a person s background, culture, prejudices and one s paradigm all
encourage youth marginalisation in society. An example of this was given where
people may discriminate a juvenile youth because they are not deemed worthy to be
allowed inclusion within the structure of society. 76% of these participants all agreed
that this type of discrimination is usually emitted by those who are between the ages
of 35 70, as they look down on these young people who may have made an accident
in life, but are completely judged upon that one wrong action. Another participant
added, that social class hierarchy is a factor, because those of wealthier backgrounds
have more opportunities to allow their youth to participate in society. The wealthy
families look down on the poorer ones, therefore, for social

Humorous Wedding Speech Some Advice for the Bridegroom (Groom)
Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen If you didn t know already, my name is
Alberto and I m in the wedding party. That is the reason I?m dressed like this.
What have I done to be blessed with such an honour? Who?s dropped out at the last
minute? Had William?s other friends left the country? Could I turn the job down and
still get an invite to eat and drink at William?s expense? I didn?t want to risk it, so
lets get on with it.

And unlike when we lived together, you?re going to have to transfer food onto
dishes instead of eating your dinner straight out of the saucepan ? and wash up after
meals instead of putting all the things in together at the end of the week? when you
take your bath. This is good advice William and it s in your best interest. Apparently,
there has never been one recorded case in history where a wife has shot her husband
while he was doing the washing up.
If truth be told, William, in order to achieve a state of affairs as blissful as possible
I?d advise you to mend all your bachelor ways. Accustomed as you are to having
only yourself to answer to in your flat, your will now have to adjust to a new
regime which will not tolerate laziness! There?s no denying it, William, you?re
bone idle, which is why Sherry had no idea you were planning to propose. When you
said you had something to ask her, she thought it would be whether she should put a

with her. You might win, and then you?d really be in trouble.
But however bad the situation gets, there are some magic words William can say to
Sherry that are guaranteed to make everything all right again and this final piece of
advice was given to me by the bride?s father here they are William, repeat after me:

27. Bow History
The bow is one of oldest weapons that can launch a projectile at great distances
accurately. In prehistoric times, the bow was used for hunting and war. Beth L.
Habeishi and Staphanie Mallory in Basic Illustrated Archery state that later on in the
human race, the longbow also became used for competition shooting as well (para.
1). The world changed and the bowwas replaced by the gun. Paul E. Klopsteg in
Archery, states that the bow is almost certainly the earliest mechanical device to
achieve greater speed in a projectile than could be attained by throwing. Bows can
shoot a projectile faster than a sling shot could, which the slingshot was made before
the bow. According to Beth L. Habeishi and Staphanie Mallory in Basic Illustrated
Archery, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bows were made of a single material, usually wood; in which two pieces were
fastened together to make the equivalent of a single long stave. A stave is like a
long piece of wood such as a branch, stump, or post. For a longbow, all that is needed
is a single stave. According to Cliff Seruntine in Homemade Longbows, he
describes that the first step to make a traditional longbow is to acquire wood for
the bow; the best wood for a bow is yew (para 1). Just about any type of wood can
be used to craft a longbow, but yew is supposed to be the best. After the wood is
acquired, Seruntine states that a longbow generally measures 72 or 6 in height
and comes in a range of draw weights depending upon how thin the wood is cut and
the draw length of the archer (para. 1). After the stave is cut to length, the next step
would be to shave it down to the same growth ring all the way down the stave.
When that is finished, measurements need to be made to find the center and get a
correct width for the bow. After finding the center, the next step is to measure
about 2 down each side of the center for the grip. The grip is where the archer holds
the bow to shoot. A longbow can be used by both a left and right handed person
because there is no place to rest the arrow on the bow. Seruntine states that the
arrow has to be shot from the center of the bow because there are no sights on the
bow (para. 2). The arrow is generally resting on the archers index finger holding the
grip. To aim, the archer has to look down the point of the arrow. After all of the
measurements are done, the scraping process starts. The scraping process is the
longest part of it because there is a tone to scrape off and it only comes off a little
bit at a time. The limbs have to be scraped almost exactly even because they are
what holds the energy to fire the arrow. Seruntine describes how the bow shoots by
28. Self Criticism In Hamlet
William Shakespeare is one of the best known authors of all time, and of his many
pieces, Hamlet is one that stands out. Written around the year 1600, it is a classic
amongst Shakespeare s tragedies due to its length and in depth character
development, themes, and plot. One such example is seen in Act 2, Scene 2, from
lines 593 617, where Hamletis lamenting in his second soliloquy about many things.
Through the use of imagery and comparisons, Shakespeare suggests that Hamlet is
being self deprecatory and self critical in addition to a expressing violent regretful
temperament about not being able to avenge his father s death during his second
soliloquy from lines 593 617.

an idea, he is clearly being self deprecating in a harsh manner and in addition, using

mockery of himself creating a more than negative mood for the part. The effect of
this quote is that it helps further characterize Hamlet and show how he is very
troubled by being in the middle of such a complex situation without anyone to rely

William Zinsser is an American writer who wrote an informational guide to
writing. He made a decision to revise a specific chapter called Simplicity. In the
year 1980, the first version of Simplicity was created, then came 1998 followed up
by 2006. In the first version, 1980, Zinsser created a long and wordy paper. He
used specific examples but included details that were unnecessary. This is ironic
because the paper is about how writers can write unnecessary words and phrases
creating complicated sentences. He was not inclusive of gender, naming men as
writers and only using wives as examples of distraction. This draft had a complete
count of 20 paragraphs. The 1998 version had few changes when compared to the
1980 s version. There... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

sense, he used a more commonly used word to this time period making it readable
to a younger generation of readers and writers. (Paragraph 2 2006) He took out on
Christmas Eve or any other eve , this made sense because it was an extra unneeded
detail. The sentence made complete sense just as what father or mother can put
together a child s toy from the instructions on the box? . In paragraph 4 he changed
what was originally the president of a major university in versions from 1980 and
98 to the president of my university in the 2006 version, making a personal
connection with the reader. (Paragraph 8 2006) He completely redid the paragraph.
In the 1980 and 1994 version, the 8th paragraph was completely unneeded and
included a story that seemed unrelated to the topic of writing. It started as I love to be
alone . The 2006 version of this paragraph wasn t completely off topic from the
original. I still believe this paragraph isn t needed, even with the shortening. With
the 2006 version he has taken out the he s and switched to they . This allows
women to feel included, making it more likely for a female to enjoy the writing. It
felt noninclusive in the first two versions. In the newest version (paragraph 10) he
included devices relevant to that time period. Instead of saying he, he said a man or
woman could be distracted by many forces
31. The Evolution Of The Sonata Form In The Classical
Period...
The evolution of the Sonata form in the Classical period and the Romantic era gave
composers a platform to encourage and indulge their curiosity. Theses composers
took a form an exploited it as limitless. They introduced new elements that combined
the classical and romantic era bridging them like star crossed lover s. In this essay,
my aim with this paper is to present how one of the greatest forms in music inspired
genius throughout the classical era and beyond.
Sonata during the Classical period meant a work in several movements that is usually
in three or four. The first movement is in a special sonata form. Sonatas were highly
regarded and an important form for composers. The Classical period had roughly
replaced the harpsicord with the piano, most composers during this period wrote
Sonatas. They did this mostly for solo instruments plus piano, but violin, cello, and
flute sonatas were all treasured. In classical sonatas with violin, piano is considered
an equal partner not just an accompaniment.
The standard Classical Sonata form is as follows, the first movement is allegro in
Sonata form. The second movement is slow, the third movement is minuet and trio
or scherzo. The fourth movement is in allegro. The minuet and trio is a dance with
three beats in a bar. Now the first movement of the Sonata form has three main
sections. One section or the first section is called the exposition this is a large,
diverse section of music in which the basic material of the movement is

Yet, something inside of me said that when in fear, doubt, or pain a real man prays

Hester Prynne is the social outcast within her Puritan village due to the sin of
committing adultery. She has, ...bore on her breast, in the curiously embroidered

Due to Hester s crime of adultery, she must wear a scarlet letter on her chest for the
rest of her life. Hester first exemplifies her strength when she is released from prison
and people were expecting to see her dimmed and obscured by a disastrous cloud,

than before. This shows Hester s inner strength, due to the fact that she is not easily
distraught by her punishment. As Hester endures her public penance, the angry
crowds are looking at her letter, and Hester repays them with a bitter and disdainful
smile, even though the reader gets the impression that she is not truly handling the
punishment well (Hawthorne, 53). This displays Hester s inner strength, Hester is
able to hide her feelings during her punishment. The author states that Hester endures

her spirit with insensibility (Hawthorne, 63). This exemplifies how strong Hester s

The Policy of Containment is a foreign policy strategy that was enforced by the
United States after World War One. The policy was enforced to prevent the spread of
a communism country and keep the U.S. the same. The entire policy was to keep
from the domino effect to take into action and forcing some noncommunist countries
to be affected by the Soviet Unions views. The United Statesgoal was to make other
noncommunist countries prosper more so they don t have to force themselves to
join the Soviet Union and become communist. For Eisenhower when he took office
in January of 1953 he looked over the policy created by Truman but added a couple
more strategies; one was a continuation of the policy of containment, the basic policy

39. The Terrorist Attacks Of The United States Essay
Introduction
Living the United State when one thinks of a terrorist attacks often their mind will
first go to a larger scale attack such as the events of September 11th 2001. September
11, 2001 changed the United States forever, the terrorist attack that day marked a
dramatic escalation in a trend toward more destructive terrorist attacks which began
in the 1980s. It also reflected a trend toward more indiscriminate targeting among
international terrorists. The vast majority of the more than 3,000 victims of the attack
were civilians. In addition, the attack represented the first known case of suicide
attacks carried out by international terrorists in the United States. (Waston, 2002)
However as the years have gone by we have come to learn that terrorist attacks are
not always on a large scale and that even one person who is inspired by the
ideologies of a terrorist group without being directly connected to them can carry out
attacks. Those that engage in this type of terrorism are referred to as lone wolf
terrorist. A recent example of such an even was the mass shooting at the San
Bernardino Inland Regional Center in December of 2015.
Synopsis
On December 2, 2015 80 employees of the San Bernardino county health department
were attending a holiday event. The event was taking place in the convention
building at the Inland Regional Center. At around 11 a.m. two shooters with
semiautomatic rifles and pistols walked in and opened fire. Fourteen were killed and
21 wounded.

Mind the (Pay) Gap Men in Travis Country, and all over the United States, are
almost always paid higher wages than their female coworkers for doing the same
work. Women have been fighting for equal rights and equal pay since the 19th
century and it is about time women and men doing the same job are paid the same
amount. The solution to this is simple: pay women and men equal wages for equal
work. This would seem to be common sense, but it is still something we are fighting
for. Census data shows median yearly income for men in Travis County is
approximately $10,000 higher than for women (kxan.com). Freda Bryson, a Texas
State doctoral student and equal pay advocate said, When I go to buy food or
groceries, I don t get a womans discount, I pay the same thing as a male pays. So
why shouldn t my wages be the same? This quote should send a message: by
paying women less than men, many women simply cannot afford the same basic
living expenses as men can. One in four households with children is headed by a
single woman (austincf.org). If a single mom is making significantly less than a man
doing the same work, it is almost impossible to provide a child with a life above the
poverty level. Many women in Travis County are living more than 100% below the
line of poverty, and over half of these women have children to take care of as well.
How can you take care of a child if you cannot even afford to take care of yourself?

something like 20% of the entire national economyactivity (DHS, Food and
Agriculture Sector ). The sector is organized in a complicated structure where the
manufacture, the process, and the distribution organization does not only provide
within the US territory but does also globally ( Food and Agriculture Sector Specific
Plan An Annex to the National Infrastructure Protection Plan , 2010 10). While the
US farms manufacture together about $181 billion in crop, greenhouses, and
nurseries; eggs, poultry, milk, seeds, and grains are the top five manufacturing in the
country ( Food and Agriculture Sector Specific Plan An Annex to the National
Infrastructure Protection Plan , 2010 10). The FA sector also import from other
countries and is creating like this a more complicated network of processing,
supplying, transporting, and distributing ( Food and Agriculture Sector Specific Plan
An Annex to the National Infrastructure Protection Plan , 2010 10). While a natural
disaster could affect the critical infrastructures in the nation, the FA Sector has a
surplus of about 100,000 manufacturing and processing factories domestically, and
globally as well,
44. Rhetorical Analysis Of Harriet Ann Jacobs By Harriet
Jacobs
Harriet Ann Jacobs is a girl who is locked away, away in a place that only Dr. Flint
knows. She is a struggling girl who wants to be free and go out and be free,
although, she cannot. She speaks about how much she dislikes where she is living
and she wishes she could be somewhere else, although, she has seen worse things
happen outside. As she talks about her current living status and her memories, she
incorporates or talks about them very well. In this passage or section, she uses
rhetorical strategies to add a different feel and perception of her life. She also speaks
about why sometimes it is worth being stuck or cramped in a tiny place, due to some
of the horrors she has witnessed or seen from the outside world. In paragraph three,
Jacobs uses personification many times to describe how the winter and autumn felt,
and how they affected her. For example, she says that autumn whirls through... Show

From the beginning of the whole excerpt, she starts off with a hateful or
dissatisfied tone about always being locked away. As it progresses, until paragraph
four, her tone and perception changes. For example, in paragraph four, her tone was
more understanding and calmer, she is also is speaking about why she kind of
appreciates being locked away because it keeps her from the other nightmarish things
she sees outside through the small hole she found. This shows the audience that the
little girl, in a way, is mature and has experienced a lot. The audience perceives her
tone in the beginning, as disdain, dissatisfaction, or a hateful tone to show her
unhappiness with her situation, to show that she really wants to travel outside and
view the world freely, although, her change in tone shows that she sometimes
appreciates being able to only stay in one place because she is hidden or away from
the cruel things that happen outside. Which allows the audience to understand and
feel the way she is
45. Computer Technology And Its Impact On Society Essay
Computer technology has evolved dramatically over the years and has significantly
changed society. As technology advances, it transforms and improves society.
Computer related technology allows for enhancement of social functions previously
difficult or impossible to execute. Computers have also accelerated productivity.
Much less time is required nowadays to research information. Many in search of
jobs and careers have reaped the rewards of computertechnology. For too long,
finding information about various careers was very difficult and painstaking, but the
computer has revolutionized the job search process. People now have access to
virtually endless information on the career of their choice. This has permitted freer
access to career opportunities that is appropriate for their lifestyle. People now can
locate thousands of jobs opportunities from their personal computers. One other
component of careers that has been influenced by computers is the development.
Today s generation could never ever imagine in their wildest dreams about the
world, ages before, when there were no computers or any other technologies. So
much we have advanced that now every information is just a click away and is in
your hands 24/7. All this advancement was possible only with the introduction of a
small device called the Computer . The computer is considered the most revolutionary
invention of the twentieth century and it appears to be as well. The impact of
computer usage can be found in
46. Return To The Black Hills
Should the Black Hills be returned to the Lakota people? My answer to for our
question should the land of the Black Hill be returned to the Oglala Lakota people is
a yes. A Little fun fact about the Oglala Lakota Tribe is, they are very close to being
the same as the Sioux Tribe with their ways of life, language, and religion. The
Oglala Lakota Tribe, like any other tribe, is very connected to the land and to their
Gods. The Oglala Lakota Tribe is a big shareholder of the Black Hillsaccording to the
text I read from an Article, Reclaiming the Sacred Black Hills by Ruth Hopkins.
After Ruth talked to a few members of the tribe they quoted a woman named Loretta
saying, We come from the Hills. They are a part of us. We still own it
47. Foundations Of Reading Assessment And Intervention
Research
Foundations of Reading Assessment and Intervention Research Paper In order for
teachers to facilitate effective reading instruction, they must determine what the
students academic reading levels are. This research based paper will introduce many
assessment tools that teachers can use to evaluate students baseline reading stages in
order to appropriately guide interventions and instruction. Individual students needs
can be evaluated through initial and continuing reading assessments. Teachers can do
this by using both formal and informal assessments to collect and record data to
monitor student s progress. Assessment Assessing young children as they move
through the steps of their literacy development will help teachers plan for their
lessons with a greater outcome for success. Using both formal and informal
assessments they can establish the child s strengths and weaknesses as well as
monitor their progress and growth. Assessments can be formative or summative
depending on when the assessment takes place. Formative assessments can be
administered regularly throughout the school year and assist teachers in monitoring
the students learning progress. Where as summative assessments measure what the
students have learned at the end of any selected event. According to Copple
Bredekamp, (2009) Assessment focuses on children s progress towards goals that are
developmentally and educationally significant (p. 22). Additionally, assessments can
provide the teacher with the
49. The Importance Of Confidential Health Care
Writing with Sources: The subject that I have chosen to write about is if teenagers
should have the right to confidential healthcare and the right to make their own
medical decisions? While using the Palomar College databases I found three
different sources that I can incorporate into my essay, which are the following
Confidential Health Care for Teens Is Good Policy , When are we mature enough
to make life or death decisions about our body? , and Parents Have the Right to
Oversee Their Children s Health Care . Confidential Health Care for Teens Is Good
Policy: The author, Scott J. Spear, starts of by providing the audience with some
background information on the subject, such as how people are divided about this
issue. He then moves on
