INTRODUCTIONIn the pursuit of positive peace for the global community, certain
mechanisms are necessary in order to better protect human rights and resolve
interstate conflicts. Prior to the events of World War II, a cogent set of laws defining
those human rights, much less violations therein were never heard at an international
scale. The International Criminal Court has the role as both appellate for justice and
voice for peace in the international community but has not yet resolve the
contradictory ends of both roles. That contradictory end is that many countries
proclaim the necessity of the International Criminal Court as an advocate for conflict
resolution and peace advocacy while being resist or outright antagonistic towards the
court when their own state has committed those same crimes. To the ends of

Shepard Fairey s piece titled Pay Up or Shut Up is a representation of the role that
money or your role in society dictate the power of your speech. This piece of art by
Fairey was released in May of 2015. It is a screen print on cream speckletone paper.
Pay Up or Shut Up is centered around the colors red, white, and blue. This is due to
the topic of the screen print dealing with issues in the United States. In the picture
there is a man staring to the top right of the page and there is a hand covering the
man s mouth coming from the bottom left of the page. The man is wearing a
blackish blue suit jacket. The trim of the lapel is a cream color. The man s hair is

We All Wear Masks
This semester was packed with new readings on levels I had yet experienced. I was
introduced to new cultures, lifestyles, and the histories attached. These poems and
novels all contained the most unique characters, all of who experienced the most
unusual situations. There was not a character that could match another, each
expressing different talents, flaws, and desires. Amongst our readings, one character
sat on my mind. Isabel Allende s The House of the Spirits had an assortment of
characters, with Esteban Trueba catching my attention the most. He is a
drastically flawed man who craves power, wealth, women, and even love. This
project has caused me to question myself, as I am curious to why I would want to
do a project on such a control freak. I have concluded that I am drawn to Esteban as
a character because of his flaws, but also due to his ability to claim what he wants,
whether he is in the right or the wrong. He is the only character that survives
through the entire book, changing rapidly over the years. My understanding of
Esteban has led me to express his character through art. When I evaluate Esteban, I
think of him as a man instead of as a character in a book. My project idea came
rushing in when I began to think of the many changes Esteban experiences through
the years, along with his many personality traits. In the beginning, the idea was to

Monsters Are Due on Maple Street Sheer mayhem breaks out, neighbor battling
neighbor, grabbing for rifles, bricks, even the hammer from Pete Van Horn s body,
(Serling, page 15). This describes the final scene of a provocative short story in The
Twilight Zone. The Twilight Zone is a televised show set in the 1960s with short
episodes in no specific order. These stories all have the darkest of themes to share
about humanity s true nature. In the short story, Monsters Are Due on Maple Street
by Rod Serling, the author contributes to the theme that prejudice and scapegoating
are weapons of humanity. When the idea of prejudice first kicks in, Maple Street
gets a little taste of madness. The weapon of prejudice shows how mayhem can
develop out of the slightest bit of fear. In this particular scene, Les Goodman s car
started all by itself and the neighbors are suddenly aware of what they are doing
and being very careful around Les and his family. Les Goodman is in his house
with various neighbors who stand around as they talk in low voices, looking and
pointing sentry like towards Les Goodman s house (Serling, page 10). This
evidence proves that the action of Les Goodman s car starting all by itself can lead
to prejudice. It will lead to prejudice because before this scene, the neighbors were
content, but now they are second guessing everyone they know. The scene also
shows that prejudice is a weapon of humanity because the people are turning one
action of a car starting into a weapon, and using this weapon by gossiping about
Goodman. A lot of the neighbors use prejudice in a different way too. In the
following scene, Charlie just shot Pete Van Horn and his lights just mysteriously
turned on in his house, Why did the lights go on in your house? What about it
Charlie? How come you re the only one with the lights on now? (Serling, page 13).
This quote shows that the way that the other neighbors are questioning Charlie, and
there is a little spark of suspicion. This suspicion will lead to prejudice. Since later
they believe that Charlie tried to kill Van Horn on purpose, the neighbors were quick
to come to the belief that Charlie is guilty. This proves that prejudice is a weapon of

There has been four major law change that affect the way that california is the way
today.The first of the four changes is term limits, they change this rule so that there
would be no more career politician , but that not the case. In the old rule term
limits rules you were allowed to be in the senate for 6 terms and in the assembly

new system bring in a lot of advantage, and little disadvantage but there is always

rule politician could draw lines for registering during a election. They would draw
district lines based on the census which left places either democratic and
republican. The problem cause a problem the politician due not campaign anymore ,
because they already know they will win. when policiation due not campaign the
are also less like to to compromise and come to agreement. The new rule is the
citizen redistricting committee. now instead of politician drawing the lines, a group
of citizen do it. They job is to stop gerrymandering and also to not violate any of the
voting right act when drawing this lines.
The third rule the the budget rule. the old rules was that you need the majority of
votes to pass a budget rule. they would need about two thirds of votes for it to pass.
This rules caused a few problem like if the majority did not like the budget
proposal that it was thrown away. Alo this cause to be late budget since it is hard
for a budget to pass. It also cause use to borrow money from others since the is no
budget rule, leading to us having a wall of debt. Now new budget rule is simple
