What is First Aid?
• Immediate care given to an injured or ill
person before professional help arrives.
• • Aims to preserve life, prevent the condition
from worsening, and promote recovery.
Principles of First Aid
• Check the scene for safety.
• • Call for help (Emergency services).
• • Care for the victim (ABC - Airway, Breathing,
Circulation).
Basic Supplies in a First Aid Kit
• Adhesive bandages (various sizes)
• • Sterile gauze pads and adhesive tape
• • Antiseptic wipes and ointment
• • Scissors, tweezers, and gloves
• • CPR face shield and thermal blanket
CPR (Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation)
• Check responsiveness and breathing.
• • Call emergency services immediately.
• • Start compressions: 30 compressions
followed by 2 rescue breaths.
• • Continue until help arrives or victim
recovers.
Wound Care
• Stop the bleeding with pressure.
• • Clean the wound with clean water.
• • Apply antiseptic and cover with a sterile
bandage.
• • Seek medical attention if needed.
Burns
• Cool the burn with running water for 10-15
minutes.
• • Cover with a sterile, non-stick bandage.
• • Do not apply creams or break blisters.
• • Seek medical help for severe burns.
Choking
• Ask the person if they can speak or cough.
• • If not, perform the Heimlich maneuver
(abdominal thrusts).
• • Call emergency services if the object does
not dislodge.
Shock Management
• Lay the person down and elevate the legs.
• • Keep them warm and calm.
• • Do not give anything to eat or drink.
• • Call emergency services immediately.
