Data is the critical choice beyond voice
In many incidents, voice communication is not enough. The right data can be more concise while telling a more complete story. Converged with mission critical voice, secure, streaming multimedia broadband empowers first responders with the real-time information they need to improve situational awareness and better prepare for the incident.
In the past, we’ve seen a regular 10 year technology refresh with 2G, 3G and 4G each being added incrementally. Some believe that 5G will follow in the same cycle, although at the moment it remains vague and unpredictable. Others point out that the benefits of each new generation – mainly increasing spectral efficiency and releasing new spectrum – are reaching their full potential. This has been a key argument for small cell deployment, which increases capacity through frequency reuse without the need for additional spectrum or spectral efficiencies.
Introducing new Cellular V2X technologies, designed to connect vehicles to each other (V2V), to pedestrians (V2P), to roadway infrastructure (V2I), to the network (V2N) — to basically everything (V2X).

Emerging Radio Technologies that are mmWave communications, Massive MIMO, Novel Waveforms and Multiple Access techniques etc. will provide ultra-high data rate traffic per user. However, only new Radio techniques implemented in lower layers of legacy networks could not guarantee the all 5G requirements, consequently the new network architecture along with new Radio technologies will emerge to fulfill all 5G requirements.

Consideration of fixed mobile convergence in 5GITU
This presentation will introduce IMT-2020 fixed mobile convergence (FMC) scenarios and requirements, such as service continuity among different access networks in a 5G environment. Based on the requirements, a FMC solution, Unified Network Integrating Cloud (UNIC), will also be introduced, including the high level architecture and some key technologies, such as unified access control for both fixed and mobile, edge computing for user plane, converged subscriber database, Telecom Integrated Cloud (TIC), etc.

LTE MTC: Optimizing LTE Advanced for Machine Type CommunicationsQualcomm Research
LTE MTC will significantly increase battery life, reduce cost/complexity, and enhance coverage by optimizing LTE Advanced for machine-type communications. These optimizations will empower innovative machine-to-machine (M2M) services across a wide range of use cases that demand the ubiquitous coverage, high reliability, and robust security of 4G LTE connectivity, without the high data rate requirements of mobile broadband.

Webinar: Laying the foundations of phase timingDavid Chambers
Making best use of precious spectrum assets requires precise frequency and phase timing synchronisation. This is increasingly important as networks increase capacity through densification with small cells and advanced LTE features. Building on years of experience and extensive field trials, Microsemi have evolved a product suite that delivers accurate frequency and phase timing at the network edge, making full use of the growing number of GNSS satellite constellations combined with wireline packet synchronisation.
In this webinar, Eric Colard, Head of Emerging Line of Business for Synchronisation at Microsemi, shares his experience gained from extensive field trials and discussions with operators in many regions, revealing many practical aspects and deployment issues. He’ll explain how GNSS signals can be received indoors - even inside windowless basements, why mounting on walls and ceilings can give differing results, and why common solutions are sought for both indoor and outdoor sites.
Looking to the future, many operators want to select a timing and synchronisation architecture that will satisfy their needs for many years - not just for the immediate demands of 3G and FDD-LTE, but LTE-Advanced, TD-LTE, NFV and even 5G. Robust timing and sync is a foundation capability for every cellular network and this webinar will clearly explain the industry requirements and issues.

UX, ethnography and possibilities: for Libraries, Museums and ArchivesNed Potter
These slides are adapted from a talk I gave at the Welsh Government's Marketing Awards for the LAM sector, in 2017.
It offers a primer on UX - User Experience - and how ethnography and design might be used in the library, archive and museum worlds to better understand our users. All good marketing starts with audience insight.
The presentation covers the following:
1) An introduction to UX
2) Ethnography, with definitions and examples of 7 ethnographic techniques
3) User-centred design and Design Thinking
4) Examples of UX-led changes made at institutions in the UK and Scandinavia
5) Next Steps - if you'd like to try out UX at your own organisation
