IIBA 2020 November - The Project Lab Masterclass: Shapeshifter BA in a Digita...AustraliaChapterIIBA
Ben Cashman from The Project Lab to discuss the skills & approaches needed as a new age business analyst in our changing digital world
About this Event
Overview:
You've heard a lot over the years of organisations moving from 'waterfall' ways of working to 'agile', with value expected to be delivered faster, through iterations of work rather than one fell swoop.
While the seasoned among us understand there is a place for both delivery methods, what does it really mean for a digital product world? A world that has proven recently that we can work effectively from home, and that many of the services we use as consumers can (and likely will) pivot to a digital product world. And more importantly how will this impact you, the business analyst expected to adapt and shapeshift your skills and approach in this fast changing world?
Presentation Value/Learning Points:
The Business Analysis Role - Do you have the skills to adapt?
How do I know which delivery approach works best for my organisation or project or client?
Business Analysis Ways of working
Business Analysis and Product Owners
Presenter– Ben Cashman
Managing Director, The Project Lab
With almost two decades of delivery and Information Technology industry experience, Ben has managed a varied project portfolio, spread across the Energy and Utility (E&U), government, healthcare, and private sectors.
Ben has managed projects with upwards of 100 team members and over $10m in value over the years, and while he still leads a number of significantly complex projects (and still consults on projects for key customers), he is now the co-founder and Managing Director of The Project Lab. The Project Lab specialises in providing organisations with advisory and management consulting, helping them link their strategic goals right through to actionable projects and work on the ground.
Ben has seen big changes in the way successful work is done over the years and is investing his energy in challenging the current mindset of the professional services industry. Ben is driven to develop a framework in which the very best Project Managers, Business Analysts and Industry Specialists can collectively deliver more successful projects to organisations around the country, every single day.

New Frameworks for Measuring Capacity and Assessing PerformanceTCC Group
If we start with the assumption that — in order to improve our social sector as a whole — those who do the work to strengthen our communities (the nonprofits) are equally as critical as those responsible for providing the resources for the work to get done (the foundations), then why wouldn’t we expect all social sector actors to build their capacity? How do we know when our grantees and our foundations are becoming more effective and impactful as a result of our capacity investments, organizational development efforts and technical assistance? What does a high performing organization or foundation look like? And can we measure that?
This presentation, provided during the Grantmakers for Effective Organizations 2016 National Conference in Minneapolis, reviews and demonstrates existing resources for assessing nonprofit and foundation capacity and effectiveness. Speakers introduced the pros and cons of a variety of rubrics in use in the field and offered guidance on how funders decide on the right fit for the desired purpose. Grantmaker peers also shared how they used different frameworks and tools to assess individual nonprofits and grantee cohorts. Session participants left with increased awareness of the importance of the facilitator’s role in interpreting data gleaned from assessments and of the data collection methods most appropriate for their organization.

EPIP Webinar: The Next Frontier in Impact Measurement Isn't Measurement At AllEPIPNational
Why we need skilled impact analysts to improve social capital markets
The investment and philanthropic worlds are converging, as foundations increasingly focus on strategic, results-based giving, businesses seek to manage their supply chains and reputations in a world increasingly concerned about sustainability and social equity, and Impact Investing rises to the fore. But the central question- what's the impact- remains elusive. The quest for a universal set of standard metrics has proven elusive, for good reason. This week's speaker, Sara Olsen, has nearly two decades of work in impact management with an impressively diverse range of investors, social entrepreneurs and nonprofits, from CalPERS to Fair Trade USA to the cellist Yo-Yo Ma. We will talk about the emergence of the new profession of skilled impact analysts, what "good enough" impact information looks like to different audiences, where impact measurement practice is heading, and how you play a role.
This session will include content by Kate Ruff and Sara Olsen originally published in Stanford Social Innovation Review.
**This webinar is co-hosted by EPIP-San Diego**
More about the presenter: ara Olsen has been recognized twice as one of America’s Most Promising Social Entrepreneurs by Bloomberg Businessweek for her work defining the impact management discipline.
Since founding SVT Group in 2001, Sara and SVT’s team of subject-matter experts have measured the social and environmental value of approximately $9Bn in private equity, debt and grants in dozens of countries and issue areas. Recent clients include Yo-Yo Ma, Restore the Earth Foundation, Fair Trade USA, the Global Fund for Women and CalPERS’ Environmental Investment Advisor.

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.

Social Responsibility for ASQ Sections, Member Units – SRTC 2017
21. What is Social Responsibility?
“Social responsibility is a means of achieving
sustainability. Adopting key social responsibility
principles such as accountability and
transparency can help ensure the long-term
viability and success of any organization or
system.” ~ASQ
“Social responsibility is an ethical framework
which suggests that an entity, be it an
organization or individual, has an obligation to
act for the benefit of society at large. Social
responsibility is a duty every individual has to
perform so as to maintain a balance between
the economy and the ecosystems.” ~Jayashree
Venugopala

22. United Declaration of Human Rights
“Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to
home – so close and so small they cannot be seen on any maps of the world.
Yet they are the world of the individual person; the neighborhood he lives in;
the school or college he attends; the factory, farm or office where he works.
Such places where every man, woman and child seeks equal justice, equal
opportunity, equal dignity without discrimination. Unless these rights have
meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerned citizen
action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the
larger world.”
~Eleanor Roosevelt (10th Anniversary, 1958)

24. Personal Social Responsibility
“I believe we all want to make the world a better place.
Being aware of what social responsibility is, is a first
step.”
- Mary M. Purcell
25. Benefits of SR
Financial outperformance.
Improves & supports innovation.
Workforce – Affects recruitment, turnover and productivity.
Stakeholder support.
Supports a competitive advantage in the marketplace.
Improves quality & supports continuous improvement.
Contributes to long-term, future success. (Sustainability)
A 2015 study found organizations that committed themselves to adopting CSR
experienced substantial performance and profitability compared to
organizations that didn’t. The study also revealed that CSR-engaged companies
had higher engagement and retention levels across their workforces and
offered better service to their customers.
~Assessing Corporate Responsibility: Is it Good For Business?
26. How are SR and Quality Connected?
• 2011 Future of Quality Study – Identified Global
Responsibility as “the most significant force
shaping the future of quality”
• Familiar quality tools employed. Both quality &
SR “seek to develop the tools & measurements
needed to demonstrate improvements.”
• Share similar core principles & definitions. “Do
no harm.”
• Share similar issues.
• Repeated research projects demonstrate strong
connection between quality principles and
methods and social responsibility.
