What is Squidoo?
 Squidoo was created in 2005 by Seth
Godin, a marketing guru.
 Squidoo gets over 10 million hits a month.
 When you create a page on Squidoo, it is
called a “Lens”.
 Each Lens gets its own PageRank from
Google (very important)
 Each lens has a built in RSS feed (very
important)
 You can make money from the lens itself
from Squidoo.

Why Squidoo??
 According to Seth, he named it that
because a Squid’s eyes have “lens” on
them to “view the world.”
 So, when you write, its called a Lens
 And he added the extra oo at the end,
because companies with the oo in their
name have done very well.

 Answer these questions:

 Squidoo has a number of built in affiliate
programs that you can easily add to your
Lens.
 The two biggest ones are: Ebay and
Amazon.
 By adding the Ebay affiliate, you can
promote Ebay auctions.
 By adding the Amazon affiliate, you can
promote any products on Amazon.
 Be aware, you will share the revenue with
Squidoo if you do this.

Why is it so important?
 Well, today's business world is cut throat
now and everyone is fighting for every
penny.
 It is a war out there and you need to use
every tool you can.
 How do most people look for a PI? Yellow
Pages? Or Google?
 You can pay for the top ranking on Google,
but everyone knows that is a paid system,
so most look right below that.

 All the listings below the paid listings are
considered Organic Traffic.
 Squidoo is a GREAT way to get these
rankings increased.
 But, Squidoo is one part of the system,
but it is a vital part.
 This is one way to get your company or

 The first thing you need to do is
RESEARCH what you want to write about.
 What do I mean by this?
 Search Squidoo for Lens that are similar to
what you want to write about.
 Look at what they did, how they arranged
things and look at their ranking.
 Next, go to the Top 100 and look at the Top
100 Lens, see what they did to get that
ranking.

like you are surfing the web, what exact
words or close to it would you use?
 Also, it shows 4 keywords, but Squidoo
really allows up to 40! I suggest you use
AS MANY AS YOU CAN!

Welcome to your first lens
 Upload a picture! Everyone wants to know
that you are a real person.
 So, click on Introduction, Contents &
Discovery Tool… EDIT
 Start filling in all the blanks and upload that
picture!
 Go up to the top and click on Table of
Contents, turn it on!
 Then click on Discovery Tool, and turn it on,
but you have to add 3 favorite lens. Always
use ones with high ranks
 Once that is done, click on SAVE

Adding modules
 In order to have a good lens that
Squidoo likes, you need to have at least
5 modules on your lens.
 Also, you should update your lens at
least once a week.
 What is an update? It could be a new
text module, a new RSS feed, anything
really.

RSS..add your blog
 Okay, next you want to add your blog,
this will be an RSS feed.
 RSS is Real Simple Syndication, it’s a
way to get the news out about a page
quickly.
 As I said, sign up at
www.pimallblog.com and get your free
Wordpress blog. Make sure you title the
blog after what you page is about! Or
after your name.

New Text Module
 This is where you do your writing.
 Give the module a title, subtitle and then
start writing.
 It will tell you when you have written the
basic amount, but be sure to write more.
 Don’t write to much, since you can add
another text module with more in it.
 And that is a secret, every two or three
days, add a new text module, or a new
item to your lens. This keeps it fresh.

Amazon module
 If you want to use the Amazon module,
here is where you can configure it.
 Remember, that you are sharing any sales
with Squidoo.
 Give the module a title, subtitle “Stuff I think
is cool on Amazon” and then choose what
will be shown.
 You can let Amazon pick or you can.
 If you have any products of your own in
Amazon, then you want to pick the items.

 Next you can add some photo’s from
Flickr.com
 Flickr.com is a web 2.0 website that you
need to sign up for in order to show any
photos.
 Now you do not need to use this, but it
does help.

 What about screen shots?

 What about cellphones?
 Any picture can be used, but try to make
it something you can tie to your articles

 In this section, you can add a YouTube
video that is about the subject your are
talking about.
 I STRONGLY suggest that you make the
video!
 Now, don’t get nervous, it does not have
to be a video of you, it can be a
Camtasia presentation of something
 Or it can be a general picture and an
audio recording of you talking.

 If you don’t want to use any others, then

higher.
 Remember Facebook Profiles?? Make
sure to use KEYWORDS in your Bio!

 Okay, like I said before, Squidoo allows
up to 40 tags
 USE ALL OF THEM!!!
 Just go to the section on the right hand
side that says Tags
 Next click the down arrow
 Now, click on the Add More Tags, and
keep adding until you reach the 40 tag
limit.

What now?
 Now it is time to hit the Publish button!
 Once you do this, your lens is ready to
go.
 Scroll to the bottom and you will see
where you can send it out on Twitter
 And you can also send on Facebook,
just click on the link!

 To have a successful lens, you need to
update the lens.
 Or as they say “give it some love”
 A good schedule is at least once a
week.
 Just add a new text module
 A new picture
 A new video, anything.

RSS
 RSS stands for Real Simple Syndication
 It is a way to send out your webpage as
a “news” item.
 Your Squidoo lens has a built in RSS
box.
 Make sure that everytime you update
the lens, you send out an RSS blast.
 I use RSSBot for all of them

PING
 Once you have done the RSS update,
you need to PING the RSS feed.
 If you use RSSbot, like I do, it has that
option built in.
 This is how you get the word out on
Google about your page.

out BIG TIME!!
