Halomonas Sp. 0-1 is a bacterium that can produce biodegradable polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) in high-salt solutions, which could lower production costs. The study aims to use electroporation to transform vectors into Halomonas Sp. 0-1 to create recombinant strains that increase PHA yield compared to the wild type strain. Developing techniques to modify Halomonas Sp. 0-1 could allow future large-scale production of PHAs using salt to sterilize growth media instead of more expensive sterilization methods.
