Summary Of The Hero s Journey Defined By Joseph Campbell
The Hero s Journey Defined is an article written by Joseph Campbell. In the article, Campbell
writes about the characteristics a hero possesses and the stages of his journey. The author also
writes about the different challenges the hero must overcome, as well as the the aftermath of the
journey. In the article, Campbell talks about the heros call that initiates his journey. The hero
normally begins his journey for a number of different reasons including the fight for a certain
cause, the sacrifices for a beloved person, or a call to find something that was lost inside the hero
himself. The call to adventure is a key event in a hero s journey because it ignites the passion in
the hero to fight for what he believes in and begin

Charmin Marketing Strategies Essay
Reinventing Toilet Paper
Charmin s Marketing Strategies
Reinventing Toilet Paper Marketing media have changed dramatically in the last five years forcing
advertisers to look for alternatives to the more traditional forums of television, radio and print ads
(Ryasam, 2007). Charmin is working on several different marketing strategies in an attempt to find
that niche. Procter and Gamble will spend an estimated $83 million in 2007 to drive awareness and
sales of their Charmin toilet paper, in what is being called the largest restaging of a product in the
company s 79 year history (Facenda, 2007, p.1). Marketing strategies include redefining Charmin
toilet paper as a relevant product to their target demographic consumer group, ... Show more content

In 2006, Charmin made the decision to extend its hospitality campaign by using the 2000
experimental Potty Palooza on a much larger scale, but the purpose of the campaign remained
the same as it did in 2000. In addition to the traditional older customer, Charmin wants to create
strategies to involve young adults and teenagers with their toilet paper. With this in mind, P G
combined the Potty Palooza marketing campaign with a developing project idea they refer to as
a media neutral idea in which the same campaign can be used in several different venues and
relate to all age groups (Ryasam, 2007). With this media neutral idea in mind, the animated and
colorful Charmin bears were born. Over the past eight years they have evolved into a family that
is part of all the Charmin advertising (Charmin FAQ, n.d.). Using these two marketing strategies
together, Charmin launched the first Time Square Potty Palooza campaign in 2006 in an effort to
reinvent the way consumers thought about toilet paper. This Time Square event was the main idea
behind the Potty Palooza from the start, but the company first needed to test the project before
spending millions of dollars on one advertising campaign (Janes, n.d.). The objective of this
restaging idea was not to build sales or promote a new product, but to take the commodity out of
toilet paper and bring the brand to life.

Free Trade Agreement With Asian Countries
The topic of free a free trade agreement with Asian countries is currently being debated on the
floor of the United States Congress ( Trans Pacific ). The trade is supposed to reduce the tariffs
that each country pays on its exported products. Americans are being told the free trade add jobs,
provide access to products otherwise not available at a lower cost, but none of this is true. The free
trade agreement will give Asian manufacturers an absolute advantage over the American
manufacture s because their wages are very low. The agreement will result in part of the United
Statesgross domestic productor GDP to be redistributed to these Asia countries providing them with
the catalyst to Americanization. They will be able to go to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The one country if fully Americanized that could be the most damaging to the world s resources is
China.
China is the world s number one problem and is the only country that is rapidly pursuing its
goals of Americanization ( China FTA ). This is apparent by their overly aggressive trade
agreements. It has fourteen free trade agreements in place with countries around the world and
is negotiating seven others ( China FTA ). They want to be number one in the world like
America and this can only end in a disaster because of the size of its population ( GDP per ).
Their current population is 2 billion as compared to United States 350 million ( International
Programs ). In order for their enormous population to live in houses like an Americans, the
forests of Indonesia, Burma, the Russian far east, and Papua New Guinea would be laid waste
to supply the timber (Safina). Each house would require appliances and furnishings and would
decimate much of the words iron ore to produce these goods and furnishings. For a Chinese
person to have as many cars as an American, they would need a staggering 30 percent more cars
than what currently exist in the world to supply enough cars (Safina). The gasoline to drive
these cars it would require 98 million barrels of crude oil per year which is greater than the 85
million barrels of crude oil already produced (Safina). China s population exceeds the capacity of

Universities Must Continue with the Race-sensitive...
Newspaper headlines and public forums demand educational reform with growing frequency. Race
sensitive admissions policies are often at the center of these debates. For example, according to the
Los Angeles Times on March 21, 2001, the Los Angeles Community College district trustees are
scheduled to vote for a resolution to support the University of California s move to reinstate
affirmative actionin its admissionspolicies. This reinstatement has visible student support as seen in
the March 15, 2001 rallies at the UC Regent s meeting in which over 1,000 supporters of
affirmative action came out to voice their opinion. This activity closely follows two other perceived
victories for affirmative action proponents when two recent court... Show more content on

These types of arguments are a disservice to both sides.
As tensions surrounding race sensitive admissions continue to grow, proponents of eliminating race
based policies are gaining momentum. A conservative political climate, as seen in the mandates
for race neutrality in California and Washington and a recent court decision (Hopwood v. State of
Texas), which significantly limits the use of race as criteria for admissions in three states, fuel this
charge. Although race sensitive admissions policies are still widely used, a vocal opposition has
destabilized the foundation on which these practices are based (Tierney, 1997).
Arguments against race sensitive admissions overlap and work in concert with each other. Four
main charges encompass many of these seemingly disparate complaints into clear areas of
discussion: (1) a moral argument which charges that society should be colorblind; (2) an
economic charge that argues race based policies admit unqualified students, creating a financial
burden for institutions; (3) a charge of social Darwinism which argues that race based policies do
not allow for normal selection process; and (4) a political charge which questions whether policies
effectively service society. In order to establish a position on the issues of race sensitive admissions

The Epidemic Of The United States
There has been an extremely dangerous epidemic living in the United States since the 1970 s.
This epidemic is like no other, doctors have not found any cure plus, it is easily contagious. The
named of this epidemic is name acquired immune deficiency syndrome, best known as AIDS. The
United States Health Department created a program in order to investigate and try to find some
form of cure for such epidemic. THE U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which
president is name Dr. Gayle, is the department in charge of determining a cure for AIDS. This
writing will analyze the main political, social, and economic forces that arose in this situation.
Next, it will express how Dr. Gayle utilized this three political resource of a public agency. Finally,
it will determine how some agencies and organizations were put in the equation.
Political, Social, and Economic Forces that arose in this situation
In 2000, the CDC reports that 774,467 Americans are estimated to have AIDS, with the estimated
annual rate of HIV infections in the U.S. remaining roughly constant at 40,000 since the early
1990s (Riccussi, 2002). With this statistic, the department of public help set Dr. Gayle as
president of the U.S Centers for disease control and prevention to try and find something that
would lower these numbers. However, at the beginning of this program, economics become a main
issue. From 1985 to 1992, the nation also experienced a resurgence of TB. One of the reasons was

Oprah Winfrey And The Half Made Movie

Oprah Winfrey and the Half Made Movie In the film adaptation of Their Eyes Were Watching God,
Oprah Winfrey fails to produce a film that remains authentic to the original work. Janie s character
converts into one that seems entirely different, and her relationships exhibit alterations. Oprah s
fabricated love story completely shadows Zora Neale Hurston s original theme, as well as her
literary devices. The film parades falsified information, which degrades the original content of the
novel. In the film version of Their Eyes Were Watching God, Oprah shifts the original theme of
Hurston s novel. She fabricates a love story to which the film revolves around recurrently and
eliminates important elements. It was one of the most beautiful, poignant love stories I ve ever
read... (Dir. Darnell). Her theme entirely displaces Janie s life journey, the essential idea of the
work. Janie s journey through life serves as the central theme in the story; the novel illustrates how
Janie matures as a woman, how she finds herself in life, and how she finds happiness. Oprah
indubitably produces the picture to her misguided interpretation despite caring what Hurston
originally wrote in the story. Their Eyes Were Watching God is a complex novel that addresses
issues of color, sexuality, community, and self fulfillment. Oprah s television adaptation does
anything but (Ceptus). These issues that Hurston includes in her famous work

The Norfolk Four-Course System Analysis
Recently, there has been a shift of the land: new crops and new owner. As for crops, the Norfolk
four course system has come into popularity; the system is characterized by 4 stages, wheat, then
turnips, next clover and ryegrass which is then left for grazing or fodder. Being able to leave
non producing land for 2 years maybe be a contributor to the new owners. Large farms owned by
the upper class have become more and more dominant over the years. Perhaps it is related to their
ability to follow the Norfolk system; they have the financial stability to leave the land alone.
Maybe it could be their ability to purchase the newest machinery, or it could be their ability to hire
laborers. All of this means it is harder for small farmers to compete.

Neurotransmitters And Its Effect On The Brain
Neurotransmitters communicate by transmitting signals from a neuron to a target cell through a
synapse. Before this communication can happen, the neurotransmitter must be synthesized and
stored in vesicles so that when an action potential arrives, the cell is ready to fuss with the
membrane of the neuron. When the synaptic vesicleis ready, the final triggering of vesicle fusion
with the presynaptic terminal membrane occurs rapidly in response to the action potentialinvasion
of the terminal. This step is highly dependent on calcium ions, which enter the terminal through
voltage gated calcium channels (Steinberg Walton, 1978; Westenbrock, 1981). This action potential
causing the opening of calcium channels for calcium ions to stream into the presynaptic cleft. The
presence of calcium ions cause the synaptic vesicle to open and release neurotransmitters which
fuses into the cleft. Miledi (1967) suggested that the idea that calcium entry into the terminal is a
key step in the neurotransmitter release process formed the basis of what is known as the calcium
hypothesis. Next, when an action potential does arrive at the terminal, the neurotransmitter is
released from the terminal into the synaptic cleft. When the neurotransmitter arrives into the
synaptic cleft, it must be recognized by its own receptors in the postsynaptic cell to create the
binding action, causing ion channels to open, thus changing membrane potential and initiating
another action potential. After the

Coming of Age in Mississippi Essay example
The first main event that I believe led to Anne Moody becoming an activist for Civil Rights was
when she was younger, her cousin George Lee was babysitting and he burned down the house in
a fit of rage and when Daddy gets home he blames it on Essie Mae (Anne Moody). This
foreshadows all of life s injustices that will be thrown her way. The next time was when she made
friends with white neighbors and they decided to go to the movies, Anne couldn t sit with her
friends, she had to sit in the balcony with all of the other blacks. She did not understand why it was
this way. Another event was when she was in high school, she changes her name to Anne Moody,

She showed them that they could be equal. The only difference was the color of the skin. She
taught them that that wasn t even a big difference. She fought segregation her entire life.
The most drastic incident that happened to Anne was when she was working in Canton,
Mississippi for a cause of voter registration. People involved in the movement are dying left and
right, and this becomes very discouraging to her. She finds out that she is on the KKK black list
and fears for her life. She finds out that her family is also afraid and they stop talking to her. She
quits her job and moves back to Canton and goes back to her family. She sees how complacent
her family is and this frustrates her. Her family treated her like a stranger, and when she graduated
from Tougaloo, no one showed up for her graduation. In the end of the book, McKinley is
murdered in front of nonviolent civil rights activists. Anne Moody wonders if things will ever work
out.
Growing up in the north, and being white, we were taught in school what the conditions were in
the south and all over America for blacks. I never really thought much of it, like many kids my age,
because it never affected me. I ve been told by teachers, speakers, and whoever else my school
would bring in to tell us about what it was like for blacks back in the 1940 s and the 1950 s. After I

Cara Pressman is a young 15 year old girl who has a dozen seizures a week. She suffers from
epilepsy which can be extremely dangerous and deadly. Her doctors recommended an ablation
laser surgery on her brain that is causing her to have seizures. This surgery would require the
doctors to crack open Cara s skull and cut out a part of her temporal lobe that is causing epilepsy.
Cara s surgery was scheduled for October 23, and this surgery would cure her from her terrible

Mexican Cartels And Its Effects On America
Since the 1900 s Mexico has been run by several drug cartels, and leaders. These drug cartels
have been increasing their territory, murder tolls, and power. The cartels have started to take
over the government and Mexico has been becoming known as a lost state. Drug cartels are
rising to power because of the lack of government, and structure which also brings fear to all the
regular citizens throughout Mexico. Many citizens regularly get murdered for lying to the cartel,
informing the authorities about the cartels, or antagonizing the cartels. Although Mexican drug
cartels, or drug trafficking organizations, have existed for several decades, their influence has
increased since the demise of the Colombian Cali in the 1990s. Mexican drug cartels now
dominate the wholesale illicit drug market and in 2007 controlled 90% of the cocaine entering
the United States. Arrests of key cartel leaders, has led to increasing drug violence as cartels
fight for control of the trafficking routes into the United States. As violence levels rise so do
tension levels. Mexico has always been involved in illegal drug smuggling since the beginning. In
the 1980 s Mexico started off aiding the Colombian organizations in smuggling cocaine into the
U.S. Mexico continued to work for the Colombian organizations, and were paid in cash as well as
percentages for some of the cocaine. The Organizations in Mexico soon became very independent,

France which led them to joining forces with Russia. Because of the alliance between France and

David Mancina s Lawsuit Against The National Football League
On October 15, 2012, a fan of the New Orleans Saints, David Mancina filed a lawsuit against the
National Football League (NFL) and its commissioner Roger Goodell. Mr. Mancina s complaint
was framed as a class action lawsuit representing all season and single ticket holders for the
Saints games during the 2012 2013 season. The basis of his lawsuit stems from the NFL s
punishment to the Saints organization in connection with the bounty scandal. On March 21,
2012, following an investigation, the NFL imposed a punishment against the Saints, with the
head coach, assistant coach, general manager, and several players being suspended.
Additionally, the team was required to forfeit its second round of draft choices in 2012 and
2013. First, it is ridiculous for David Mancina to try and sue the NFL and the commissioner for
rightfully punishing a team in their opinion. Mr. Mancina has no rights to say what is right or
wrong for the NFL or commissioner to do especially since he does not hold a leadership role
such as a stakeholder, coach, general manager, etc. with the Saints of even in the NFL. Who is he
to say that the league does not have sufficient evidence to warrant the suspensions? That is kind of

Emily Dickinson s Influence In Early American Literature
Emily Dickinson is renowned for her influence in early American literature. She is mostly known
for her darker poems that deal with death and mortality. However, she tackles much more in her
work than the morbid side of life. Dickinson has included in her many works themes such as
science, religion, and even light hearted comedic romance. The following articles are examples of

article strives to explain exactly what Dickinson meant with that statement. This article proposes
that death is not the main focus in her works and serves only as the destination. Instead, Dickinson
wants her readers to ponder more on the journey that involved in order to reach that destination. The

Written during a time when comedic valentines were extremely popular, the author goes to great
lengths to inform the reader that Dickinson penned valentines of a genial comic nature, rather than
an abusive or romantic one. The author uses a letter that Dickinson wrote to her brother Austin to
display Dickinson s sense of humor concerning the church. The author continues on to show that
this bible humor can also been seen in the lines of the two poems, along with traces of satire and

Prairie Dog Research Paper
The Black Tailed Prairie Dog is common to the Great Plains, all the way from Canada to the
northern parts of Mexico. The loss of prairie throughout the years has led to a loss in numbers,
but they still are around in the Great Plains. The prairie dog lives in areas with short grassland,
and they burrow into holes. They dig the holes themselves and leave a big pile of dirt that
surrounds their hole. The pile of dirt protects the hole from flooding, and helps them keep a
lookout for predators. Their holes range from three to ten feet deep, and about ten feet wide
depending on the prairie dog. They make nesting chambers throughout their dens and have a
separate spot for the bathroom (Nature Works 1). Prairie dogs have a great burrow system with...

Importance of Mother
The Importance of the Presence of the Mother During the First Three Years Organized by Sheila
Kippley (February 28, 2005)
Purpose Mothers have told me that they have been influenced by those experts and writers who
state that the presence of the mother during the early years is extremely important to their child s
optimal development. This knowledge has helped them to make decisions that enable them to
remain with their children or at least cut back on their hours away from their little ones. There are
many different views on how to raise children, but this is not the place to have a discussion on
parenting issues. Many experts and ordinary persons agree that the mother plays an important role in

A baby must have a mother, a mother who is mature enough to attend to its needs and provide so
called object constancy for a minimum of three years... The mothering function is one of the most
important of all human events but, unfortunately, one of the least appreciated or regarded by society.
Harold Voth, M.D., Medical Times, November 1980.
Let me once again emphasize that the natural transitions between sexual intercourse, pregnancy,
birth, breastfeeding, and early childhood form a cohesive physiological basis for the development of
maternal infant attachment as it gradually progresses from conception to weaning in the second or
third year of life. No amount of technology will improve on this biologically determined pattern
that was set in place by a personal Creator, nor can anything that is artificially produced fully
replace the spiritual significance and the emotional satisfaction that these experiences can produce
in a woman s life.
Debra Evans, Heart Home, p. 133.
In the first three years of life every human being undergoes yet a second birth, in which he is born
as a psychological being possessing selfhood and separate identity. The quality of self an infant
achieves in those crucial three years will profoundly affect all of his subsequent existence.

Thematic Essay On The Painted Bird
A thematic research paper on the novel of The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosinski In Jerzy Kosinski s
novel, T he Painted Bird, marginalisation creates genocide, a crimeВridden second class, and vast
amounts of psychological torment. Jews were massacred during World War II causing the
young boy to flee from village after village to avoid being sent to a concentration camp. The
young boy s plea for safety lands him in various situations, many of which cause him to be
tortured and/or abused. Psychological torment from marginalisation causes the young boy to
believe God holds disdain toward those without blond hair and blue eyes, causing the young boy
to feel depressed. Marginalisation of society in World War II causes a genocide; this genocide
forces the young boy to flee from his home and make an endless journey in search of a place of
sanctuary. During World War II, Jews were sent to concentration camps and extermination camps
in an effort to promote their marginalisation and genocide; the young boy knew this reality and
fled from many villages to escape persecution. After causing mischief at his previous village, the
young boy decided to flee into the woods in search of a new home. I wandered for several days in
the woods and made attempts to approach the villages.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Descriptive Essay On The Grandmother
Icy fingers gripped my arm in the darkness, I took my attention from the starry sky to look from
the hand that touched me up to the face of my Grandma. She shared a kind smile with me
emphasizing her rosey cheeks warming my own despite the winter snow falling around us. My
little sister Sara squealed with glee as our shepherd pup Macy hopped around her, wagging her tail
so fast the entire back end of her body would follow in sync. Grandma took a deep breath as she
rewrapped her rope around her waist, How does a cup of tea sound? her voice was soft kind, I think
it is time we all should get some rest. I answered glancing back at sara who was still squealing
with joy as she watched the pup continue to roll in the glistening pillow of snowsurrounding the
small patch of land we call home. She nodded in agreement and reached her arm out for me to
support her inside. I grabbed the icy doorknob and turned it slowly before the winter wind
pushed it inside with a slam, revealing our small one room cabin, full of candles all shapes sizes.
On the walls children s artwork was seen almost everywhere you darted your eyes, colors filled
the room bringing cheer to anyone that was to enter, in contrast to the many war diaries I got
from my grandma. The warmth of from the fireplace was almost felt immediately in contrast to
the harsh winter outside. I listened to the familiar squeak of the floor below us as we made our

Peter Dale Scott tells us in his book Deep Politics and the Death of JFK (1993) that late in 1963
Kennedy had authorized the withdrawal of one thousand U.S. troops from Vietnam this was the
first step towards total retreat from Vietnam, which he anticipated would happen by the end of 1965
(Scott 24). This incident added to the fire that was roaring underneath the CIA something had to be
done about Kennedy.
The Mafia is also a key suspect in this assassination. Especially Carlos Marcello, who was the
mob boss in New Orleans he was deported because of Attorney General Robert Kennedy,
President Kennedy s brother (Sherer April 1991). Robert Kennedy focused much of his time on
getting rid of organized crime, and he did a pretty good job. In the Web Site Who Murdered JFK

If President Kennedy were to die, then Robert Kennedy wouldn t be able to keep going after the

Discrimination Of Landlords In The US
Race:
Landlords also employ a variety of tactics that discriminate against racial minorities. Common
customs in the housing industry often put non whites, particularly African Americans, at a
disadvantage. For example, screenings for criminal records is a routine practice that landlords use
to identify risky applicants and isolate them. In fact, the most popular how to books for landlords
identify criminal background checks as the best way to minimize liability (Thatcher 2008).
However, criminal screenings disproportionately harm blacks, particularly black males. In the U.S.,
black men are eight times more likely to be incarcerated than white men. Currently more than a

In low income neighborhoods, violence against women is regarded not as a horrific crime but a
mere nuisance to landlords. Instances of domestic abuse often trigger noise complaints or 911 calls
and the additional police involvement in the neighborhood inconveniences landlords. Under the
doctrine of nuisance property ordinance, police departments can fine landlords for their tenants
disruptive behavior. When the police punish landlords for noise complaints, landlords in turn
punish the tenants responsible. In 83% of cases, landlords respond to a nuisance citation for
domestic violence by evicting tenants (Fais 2008). When abuse garners noise complaints, victims
don t face support, they face eviction. Thus, to keep their homes, women stay silent about their
partners violence. Ultimately, women must choose between being battered and being homeless.
Landlords mistreatment of battered women especially harms black women. While black women
only make up 8% of the population, they are 29% of all domestic violence victims (Jones 2014).
Not only are black women disproportionately abused, but they are also overrepresented in nuisance
ordinances. In black neighborhoods, 1 in 16 properties eligible for a citation receive one, compared
with 1 in 41 white properties being fined (Desmond 2016:191). These trends indicate that nuisance
property ordinances are another way in which African Americans receive different treatment

The Cost Of Passenger Cruise
1.After running two different regression models using passenger cruise days and number of
passengers to predict which variable better estimates total cost, the data (including a slightly
higher adjusted r squared) suggests the number of passenger cruise days acts as a better
predictor of total costs. The number of passenger cruise days is more economically plausible
because it is more logical to allocate the costs based on the number of passenger cruise days
rather than the number of passengers. More specifically, number of passengers does not fully
explain the amount of total costs because of the varying duration of trips. For example, consider
an instance where Carnival accommodates one thousand passengers on a four day cruise and
one thousand passengers on a seven day cruise. Theoretically total costs would be the same
when using number of passengers to explain total costs because each cruise accommodates the
same number of passengers. On the other hand, when one considers the length of a cruise, total
costs should be higher for longer cruises. Per the example above, a seven day cruise will have
higher costs than a four day cruise because of the additional resources needed to accommodate
passengers for a longer period of time. 2.In order to determine whether two independent variables
better explain cost than a single regression (See #1), the group ran a two separate multiple
regression. The first multiple regression was run with the number of passenger cruise days

Reflection Paper On Haiti
My church was planning a mission trip to Haiti in Summer of 2016. As soon as I heard the
announcement I knew I was going. My husband, my then nineteen year old son and myself started
our plans to travel. Passports were bought, fundraisers were planned and me thinking I needed to
know everything there was to know about Haiti started my searches on the internet. I went into this
trip thinking I knew all about the culture, country, the people and what I could do for them. I
quickly found out just how wrong I was.
As soon as our flight started descending over Port Au Prince Haiti every ounce of knowledge I
thought I had vanished. There were fires in the distance and crumbled building as far as I could
see. As we exited the airport and once I caught my breath from how hot it was we had a mob of
people all over us like fleas on a stray dog. They wanted to help us so we will give them money.
And once we could get past that, a smell hit us from every direction. Burning garbage and
burning charcoal filled the air. Our drive was almost four hours to where we were staying and in
that four hour trip I saw more naked people, garbage, crumbling buildings and wild animals then I
had ever even known existed. There was so much new information to take in it was so
overwhelming. This was not something I had planned for.
After a night of rest, it was time to get to it. Here I am, ready to help. We can now fix everyone s
problems! Well, not so much. That thought had to leave my mind. There

In the play Lysistrata, Aristophanes imagines the women of Greece fighting for peace with a very
elemental, and essentially feminine, weapon: sexual blackmail. An Athenian woman named
Lysistrata plans to convince women to abstain from sex in order to end the war between the men
of Greece. Lysistrata brings the Spartan and Theban women into the plan as well. Her idea was to
not just starve the Athenian men of sex, but men on all sides of the conflict. She hoped that this
would bring them to the negotiating table to find a solution for peace between their city states.
Lysistrata is a womanof strong convictions who, being tired of the war, its cost, and the continued
absence of men from the home because of their presence at the front lines;

Big Data Vs. Public Sector Organizations Essay
In economically uncertain times, many businesses and public sector organizations have come
to appreciate that the key to better decisions, more effective customer or citizen engagement,
sharper competitive edge, hyper efficient operations and compelling product and service
development is data and lots of it (Cameron McNaught,2010). Today the situation they face is
not any shortage of that raw material. In a way that the wealth of unstructured online data alone
has swollen the already torrential flow from transaction systems and demographic sources but
how to turn that amorphous, vast, fast flowing mass of Big Data into highly valuable insights,
actions and outcomes. When you hear the word big data what it is that first comes to your
mind, a straight forward answer would be huge amount of data ranging between tens or
hundreds of peta bytes to few zeta bytes of data. In a way, Big Data is not just about the amount
or volume of data but one way it is about deriving business value from a range of new and
emerging data sources, including social media data, location data generated by smart phones and
other roaming devices, public information available online and data from sensors embedded in
cars, buildings and other objects and much more besides. Another way to define big data would
be a 4V model wherein Vs stand for Volume, Velocity, Variety and Veracity. The next question that
pops in would be what led to this huge pile of data, well certainly days or months or years is

Reaching For The Stars Unless You re Black
Reach for the Stars; unless you re black
With the United States Army being one of the oldest organization in American, they have
undoubtable faced its share of diversity issue, they are an organization, with the need to operate
under the strictest hierarchical structure. This structure is imperative to their mission to serve and
protect the free people of this country and to uphold the Constitution that affords it. Alas, the
structure begs for internal oppression of minorities, due to the need and desire by its members to
advance in rank. The General Officer Corps. is the highest of military ranks next to the President.
And with rank brings freedoms, privileges, and above all power. The power to make a wide

The members of the Army are a direct reflection of the citizens they protect. Made up of all different
races and backgrounds. When a person volunteers to join they are really volunteering to join an
entirely different way of life within America. Although they are afforded the same fundamental
protections of the Constitution which they protect, they are also volunteering to relinquish some of
those rights. Members are governed my different laws, courts and at times different police; they are

Another threat comes from smaller expeditions that are becoming increasingly common by
individuals and small parties. Antarctica requires careful planning and a series of fail safe rescue
procedures if anyone gets into difficulty. These smaller expeditions sometimes fail to do this
adequately and resort to humanitarian requests for aid from shipping or nearby national bases when
they get into difficulty. In recent years for example a small helicopter (totally unsuitable for the
task) crashed into the sea off the Antarctica Peninsula requiring rescue.
There have so far been no major pollution incidents or losses of life in Antarctica as a result of
tourism, though there was a very close call in November 2007 with the holing and subsequent

Stereotypes In Newspapers
When looking at the history of white Americans encroaching on native land, it is often easy for
us to forget that Native Americans had allies that worked to prevent any further loss of land at the
hands of white Americans. Fortunately, newspaper editorials allow us to recognize those who
worked diligently to raise awareness about and prevent the removal of Native Americans,
specifically Cherokees in this case, from their own territories. Although newspapers give us the
ability to understand varying viewpoints on a historical issue, they ve also lacked the ability to
give a concise and unified public opinion and often contained strong biases. While reading
newspaper editorials from the past, we re often left with an incomplete picture, as editorials contain

near misses due to inefficient handoffs relating to patient safety. We will also measure our patient
baseline data from current patient satisfaction surveys N. Guyse (personal communication,
February 22, 2014). Currently we are inefficient and unsafe with handoff practices due to missing or

Beliefs Of Jewish Religion Essay
Judaism
Beliefs:
Judaism is a monotheistic faith; therefore, Jewish people believe in one god(Mendes Flohr 423).
According to Mendes Flohr there are thirteen principles of the Jewish faith. They include:

Belief in the resurrection of the dead.(431)

room upon seeing me approach her bed started to groan loudly and turn her head from side to
side (this made me feel worried as it was obvious to me that she didn t like me). The patient was
also licking her lips and coughing up mucus and she appeared to me as if she were choking. My
mentor informed me that this was normal for Mrs. Lewis but it added to my anxiety as I had not
seen a patient in Mrs. Lewis condition before and it alarmed me. My mentor also informed me that
due to having dementia Mrs. Lewis did not understand why she had a tube into her stomach and
that she had tried to remove it herself in the past which had caused some trauma to the abdomen
(this resulted in the patient being very anxious whenever her PEG tube was touched, as she
anticipated pain) and that sometimes the patient did not want her PEG tube touched and could be
combative occasionally, using her left arm to hit out at staff. At this point I felt as though
administering medication to Mrs. Lewis was beyond my capabilities as a student because of the
mental health issues the patient had, I had no experience or knowledge at this point in my training

A Brief Note On The European Union s Ems Standards Essay
According to Cheremisinoff and Haddadin (2006), EMS is a system that being planned and

Linux Vendors Comparisons
DeVry University
During my research of Linux vendors, I have narrowed my options to three distinct vendors. I
have found Red Hat, Novell, and Ubuntu were three of the best companies worldwide. Each
vendor has their advantages and disadvantages. I will address the positive and negative points of
each vendor. The main differences between the three vendors that I will discuss are cost, training
support, performance reliability, and lastly availability. The first thing I will discuss is cost. Cost
is always an important issue that must be addressed for a business. A product that does not have
an equal or gain return when compared to its cost would be considered a poor ... Show more content

Each of the vendors offers to provide training to our staff as part of the purchase. They also offer
to continue to train our staff as long as we have an account with them. Customer support is also a
crucial part of our decision. We need excellent customer support from the vendor. We also need
quick response to our request for customer support. Red Hat specifically states that it has 24/7
customer support. What that means is that twenty four hours and day seven days a week, Red Hat
customer support is ready to provide their services. Ubuntu states that it offers profession support to
its customers. Novell also supports the use of Macs and their operation system (OS). Some of the
advantages of selecting each vendor s product are similar and still somewhat distinct. Red Hat in
(For sap business,) states, that is a responsive customer support, higher performance standards,
collaborative engineering for better products, and designed in security. Customer support is a
very important advantage. Higher performance standards are also an important advantage.
Higher performance means we will get what we paid for or more in our return. According to
(Stevens, 2011) there are several pros and cons to using Red Hat. Some of the advantages are its
scalability in the processors and memory, ability for hot swapping of processors, and an integrated
KVM virtualization with Kernel Samepage Merging and SELinux sandbox options. Some of the
cons of Red Hat are its server

Eurydice. They were said to be in love, well not for long. One day Eurydice was killed. She was

Extreme Sports Not About Risk Taking Study
A wise person once said, The proper function of man is to live, not exist. I shall not waste my
days trying to prolong them. I shall use my time. This quote explains that we should not waste
our time and actually do something worth living for. That we should use the time we have to do
or become something, instead of wasting it. We should use this in our life just like how extreme
sports athletes did. The only difference is that their path is riskier than ours because they do many
dangerous activities such as Base Jumping, Cave Diving, and BMX. Extreme sports are a good
idea because you get to be in the moment and feel the rush, but you should take some precautions
because it can be very dangerous.
One reason why extreme sports should be participated in is because many people find their
motivations and motives of life in it. In Extreme Sports Not About Risk taking: Study ... Show

Stewart leaving New York City with her 18 year old Jonathan boyfriend to go find answers. At the
very beginning of the story it takes place on a train. Natalie and Jonathan are running away from the
supernatural demons, spirits, and ghost that seems to follow them everywhere they go.
In the very beginning of the story Jonathan and Natalie are introduced as cousins. They were
pretending to be cousins, so no one would suspect him as the kid who killed his family. Couple

jonathan anyway. She began to feel that it was too real that that symbol had to have been there. It
couldn t have been a dream so she waited until they were alone to tell him about the symbol.
Then when they returned to New York her father told her Jonathan does not have my permission
to marry you until I know you my daughter will be completely safe with him. Jonathan had left to
England to end running away from the law. As soon as he returned from England Ms.Northe had
to go see her dying friend who would have more answers for them on what s going on, why this is
happening, who s controlling this, and how to end this.
Then Natalie, Jonathan, and Rachel had left to go to the basement of Rachel s castle where
Jonathan s soul had once been trapped inside one of the portraits. they went to go find out why all
this was happening because no one knew when ms.northe would be back. They got to the basement
door that opens on its own, like something inside has been waiting for them. the further past the

My Fear Of Drowning
Everyone has a greatest fear whether it be from fear of dolls to fear of death. Fear is
characterized by a feeling of terror or dread caused by an object that you believe to be harmful.
All fears are caused by an event that has happened to someone that traumatizes them for life. A fear
is sometimes unovercomable and this may be because to overcome it one must be a certain
characteristic. For example, to overcome the fearof ugliness one must lose weight and sometimes
acquire surgery. My greatest fear is the idea of drowningand this is a fear of many. I do not have a
certain characteristic to acquire before overcoming my fear of drowning except for knowledge of
pooletiquette and rules. To understand one s fear the information about the traumatizing event must
be presented. Also when they found out the fear existed and how one overcame, if did, the fear.
Fear of drowning is my greatest fear because when I was eight I drowned in a clear, blue,
treacherous pool by the hotel with the dark burgundy colored brick and cream colored doors. I
remember my cousins laugh whenever someone went the wrong way as they were playing
marco polo. I was sitting on the scorching cement by the pool when I decided I wanted to cool
down and play with everyone else. I did not have the understanding of what the big, black numbers
by the pool meant, all I saw was six and dived in. As soon as I dove in, I felt the lack of air,
replaced by water, reaching my lungs as I tried to stand and breathe

Violence in Beowulf
Violence in Beowulf Beowulf is an epic poem written in Anglo Saxon times, by an unknown poet.
Beowulf is a Geatish man who rescues the Danish people from evil, and helps save his own country
from destruction. Beowulf, renowned for his bravery, and known as the strongest man alive,
acquires the help of fourteen thanes to sail with him to Denmark. There he is involved in two battles
with two evil monsters. He then fights another battle in his homeland with a Fire dragon. Without
violence in Beowulf, heroism would be impossible as evidenced by Beowulf s battles with
Grendel, his mother, and the Fire dragon. Beowulf first shows his heroic nature in the fight with
Grendel. After all the men in the great hall of Heorot fall asleep, Beowulf... Show more content on

Grendel s death however, was not quick and ruthless like those he inflicted to his victims. His
death was slow and tortuous, as Beowulf ripped his arm right off. Grendel wasis forced to run

a very painful death indeed. I believe that having Grendel die this way is a far more severe
punishment than a quick and painless death. The monster comes to the horrible realization that he

Ethical Issues Surrounding Genetic Screening and Genetic Engineering
In today s modern age science is moving at a rapid pace; one of those scientific fields that has
taken the largest leaps is that of genetics. When genetics first comes to mind, many of us think of it
as a type of science fiction, or a mystical dream. Yet geneticsis here, it is real, and has numerous
ethical implications. One of the particular areas of interest is prenatal genetics. In this field, many
new and outstanding innovations have been made. A mother and father can now check for a large
array of disorders that could occur in their child; sexual preference has now been shifted from the
hands of a higher being to that of someone with a Ph.D.; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In this brave new field, there have been many steps and strides taken of which we could have
never imagined. For instance, before a mother and father decided to carry out the process of having
offspring, they can visit a genetic clinic to figure out if their child is likely to have certain
illnesses. A list of such illnesses are: Down syndrome, cystic fibrosis, dwarfism, breast cancer
(susceptibility to), fragile X syndrome, Huntington s Disease, Duchenne muscular dystrophy,
and various types of nervous system degeneration (Golden 51). These are only a few of the
nearly 40 types of disorders that can be determined by genetic testing. It may be rather nice to
know that a child does not have a genetic disease, but what does a couple do if the results of a
genetic test are returned with negative results? Also, if the information from the test is
ambiguous the couple might decide not to carry out the pregnancy due to risk. In a 1999 article
written by Frederic Golden, he questions if the child should be brought into the world ...in hopes
that a cruel disease can be managed or cured... or if the fetus should be aborted. He also poses the
question of insurance coverage. This might seem like a rather odd comment to make. Insurance is
insurance isn t it? And for the most part we all have it. Yet this brings us into another issue about
genetics, privacy. Our genetic code is consistent throughout our entire lives. It is who we are. Will
insurance coverage be available

High Social Circle and Waltz During the Eighteenth Century
Scandalous! Sinful! Outrageous! Believe it or not, these are all adjectives used to describe the
waltz in the eighteenth century. Beginning within the Alps of Austria, the intoxicating spins and
steps of the waltz were born. Not long after, however, the waltz took Europe by storm. Johann
Wolfgang von Goethe, a German writer, even stated in 1765 that people felt obliged to learn [the
waltz], for without knowledge of this dance, it was impossible to enter the highest social circles.
Although this partner danceis now practically a necessity in social ballroom events, the rise of the
waltz would prove to be a difficult journey. Controversy over this popular social activity was not
lacking from political and religious leaders. From scandalous to classy, the waltz is a famous
traditional type of ballroom dancing that has greatly influenced many dance styles around the world.
While the waltz has been around for hundreds of years, the steps used today are actually not a
part of the original dance. It is generally accepted that the exact origins of the waltz are fairly
obscure. However, it is theorized that the waltz was a product of evolution from a dance called the
ländler (Britannica). As like various other dances, the waltz has evolved through the ländler
along with cultural and social advances. Created in the countryside of Austria, the ländler was a
type of couple s dance that became widely popular in the late eighteenth century when composers
began creating music for

The Music Of The 1930 S
The 1930 s was a decade of extremely hard times, following the stock market crash and an
extreme depression. In spite of the tremendous hardships in America during this decade, it also
became a time of great music that is still remembered today. Jazz music was highly popular in
this time, and Billie Holiday was a famous jazz performer. She stood out from many other
musicians because of her intense and passionate performances. Jazz arose from unacceptable
segments of society, but quickly grew like wildfire. We often think of the 1930 s as the decade that
jazz became civilized, and famous throughout popular culture through the work of pioneering artists
like Billie Holiday. People did not own televisions or cable, so radio was their main source of
entertainment, and music during this decade was both up beat and a source of relaxation. Strange
Fruitdefied musical category because it was considered too artsy to be folk, and too explicitly
political to fit into jazz. This is why Strange Fruit became such a powerful phenomenon. Many
other artists later took on this song, changing the genre but still portraying the same message. Nina
Simone dramatized Strange Fruit in the context of the Civil Rights Movement. More important
artists like Jeff Buckley, Rene Marie, Labor Camp Orchestra, and many others made their own
rendition on the song, still leaving all of their audiences moved by the powerful imagery of the
lyrics. Strange Fruit , the haunting ballad recorded by

  • 3. Charmin Marketing Strategies Essay Reinventing Toilet Paper Charmin s Marketing Strategies Reinventing Toilet Paper Marketing media have changed dramatically in the last five years forcing advertisers to look for alternatives to the more traditional forums of television, radio and print ads (Ryasam, 2007). Charmin is working on several different marketing strategies in an attempt to find that niche. Procter and Gamble will spend an estimated $83 million in 2007 to drive awareness and sales of their Charmin toilet paper, in what is being called the largest restaging of a product in the company s 79 year history (Facenda, 2007, p.1). Marketing strategies include redefining Charmin toilet paper as a relevant product to their target demographic consumer group, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2006, Charmin made the decision to extend its hospitality campaign by using the 2000 experimental Potty Palooza on a much larger scale, but the purpose of the campaign remained the same as it did in 2000. In addition to the traditional older customer, Charmin wants to create strategies to involve young adults and teenagers with their toilet paper. With this in mind, P G combined the Potty Palooza marketing campaign with a developing project idea they refer to as a media neutral idea in which the same campaign can be used in several different venues and relate to all age groups (Ryasam, 2007). With this media neutral idea in mind, the animated and colorful Charmin bears were born. Over the past eight years they have evolved into a family that is part of all the Charmin advertising (Charmin FAQ, n.d.). Using these two marketing strategies together, Charmin launched the first Time Square Potty Palooza campaign in 2006 in an effort to reinvent the way consumers thought about toilet paper. This Time Square event was the main idea behind the Potty Palooza from the start, but the company first needed to test the project before spending millions of dollars on one advertising campaign (Janes, n.d.). The objective of this restaging idea was not to build sales or promote a new product, but to take the commodity out of toilet paper and bring the brand to life. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Free Trade Agreement With Asian Countries The topic of free a free trade agreement with Asian countries is currently being debated on the floor of the United States Congress ( Trans Pacific ). The trade is supposed to reduce the tariffs that each country pays on its exported products. Americans are being told the free trade add jobs, provide access to products otherwise not available at a lower cost, but none of this is true. The free trade agreement will give Asian manufacturers an absolute advantage over the American manufacture s because their wages are very low. China is the world s number one problem and is the only country that is rapidly pursuing its goals of Americanization ( China FTA ). This is apparent by their overly aggressive trade agreements. It has fourteen free trade agreements in place with countries around the world and is negotiating seven others ( China FTA ). They want to be number one in the world like America and this can only end in a disaster because of the size of its population ( GDP per ). Their current population is 2 billion as compared to United States 350 million ( International Programs ). In order for their enormous population to live in houses like an Americans, the forests of Indonesia, Burma, the Russian far east, and Papua New Guinea would be laid waste to supply the timber (Safina). Each house would require appliances and furnishings and would decimate much of the words iron ore to produce these goods and furnishings. For a Chinese person to have as many cars as an American, they would need a staggering 30 percent more cars than what currently exist in the world to supply enough cars (Safina). • 5. Universities Must Continue with the Race-sensitive... Newspaper headlines and public forums demand educational reform with growing frequency. Race sensitive admissions policies are often at the center of these debates. For example, according to the Los Angeles Times on March 21, 2001, the Los Angeles Community College district trustees are scheduled to vote for a resolution to support the University of California s move to reinstate affirmative actionin its admissionspolicies. This reinstatement has visible student support as seen in the March 15, 2001 rallies at the UC Regent s meeting in which over 1,000 supporters of affirmative action came out to voice their opinion. This activity closely follows two other perceived victories for affirmative action proponents when two recent court... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These types of arguments are a disservice to both sides. As tensions surrounding race sensitive admissions continue to grow, proponents of eliminating race based policies are gaining momentum. A conservative political climate, as seen in the mandates for race neutrality in California and Washington and a recent court decision (Hopwood v. State of Texas), which significantly limits the use of race as criteria for admissions in three states, fuel this charge. Although race sensitive admissions policies are still widely used, a vocal opposition has destabilized the foundation on which these practices are based (Tierney, 1997). Arguments against race sensitive admissions overlap and work in concert with each other. Four main charges encompass many of these seemingly disparate complaints into clear areas of discussion: (1) a moral argument which charges that society should be colorblind; (2) an economic charge that argues race based policies admit unqualified students, creating a financial burden for institutions; (3) a charge of social Darwinism which argues that race based policies do not allow for normal selection process; and (4) a political charge which questions whether policies effectively service society. In order to establish a position on the issues of race sensitive admissions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Oprah Winfrey And The Half Made Movie Jacob Lucas Miss Sibbach AP English III 12 December, 2014 Oprah Winfrey and the Half Made Movie In the film adaptation of Their Eyes Were Watching God, Oprah Winfrey fails to produce a film that remains authentic to the original work. Janie s character converts into one that seems entirely different, and her relationships exhibit alterations. Oprah s fabricated love story completely shadows Zora Neale Hurston s original theme, as well as her literary devices. The film parades falsified information, which degrades the original content of the novel. In the film version of Their Eyes Were Watching God, Oprah shifts the original theme of Hurston s novel. She fabricates a love story to which the film revolves around recurrently and eliminates important elements. It was one of the most beautiful, poignant love stories I ve ever read... (Dir. Darnell). Her theme entirely displaces Janie s life journey, the essential idea of the work. Janie s journey through life serves as the central theme in the story; the novel illustrates how Janie matures as a woman, how she finds herself in life, and how she finds happiness. Oprah indubitably produces the picture to her misguided interpretation despite caring what Hurston originally wrote in the story. Their Eyes Were Watching God is a complex novel that addresses issues of color, sexuality, community, and self fulfillment. Oprah s television adaptation does anything but (Ceptus). These issues that Hurston includes in her famous work ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As for crops, the Norfolk four course system has come into popularity; the system is characterized by 4 stages, wheat, then turnips, next clover and ryegrass which is then left for grazing or fodder. Being able to leave non producing land for 2 years maybe be a contributor to the new owners. Large farms owned by the upper class have become more and more dominant over the years. Perhaps it is related to their ability to follow the Norfolk system; they have the financial stability to leave the land alone. Maybe it could be their ability to purchase the newest machinery, or it could be their ability to hire laborers. All of this means it is harder for small farmers to compete. ... • 10. Neurotransmitters And Its Effect On The Brain Neurotransmitters communicate by transmitting signals from a neuron to a target cell through a synapse. Before this communication can happen, the neurotransmitter must be synthesized and stored in vesicles so that when an action potential arrives, the cell is ready to fuss with the membrane of the neuron. When the synaptic vesicleis ready, the final triggering of vesicle fusion with the presynaptic terminal membrane occurs rapidly in response to the action potentialinvasion of the terminal. This step is highly dependent on calcium ions, which enter the terminal through voltage gated calcium channels (Steinberg Walton, 1978; Westenbrock, 1981). This action potential causing the opening of calcium channels for calcium ions to stream into the presynaptic cleft. The presence of calcium ions cause the synaptic vesicle to open and release neurotransmitters which fuses into the cleft. Miledi (1967) suggested that the idea that calcium entry into the terminal is a key step in the neurotransmitter release process formed the basis of what is known as the calcium hypothesis. Next, when an action potential does arrive at the terminal, the neurotransmitter is released from the terminal into the synaptic cleft. When the neurotransmitter arrives into the synaptic cleft, it must be recognized by its own receptors in the postsynaptic cell to create the binding action, causing ion channels to open, thus changing membrane potential and initiating another action potential. Coming of Age in Mississippi Essay example The first main event that I believe led to Anne Moody becoming an activist for Civil Rights was when she was younger, her cousin George Lee was babysitting and he burned down the house in a fit of rage and when Daddy gets home he blames it on Essie Mae (Anne Moody). This foreshadows all of life s injustices that will be thrown her way. The next time was when she made friends with white neighbors and they decided to go to the movies, Anne couldn t sit with her friends, she had to sit in the balcony with all of the other blacks. She did not understand why it was this way. People involved in the movement are dying left and right, and this becomes very discouraging to her. She finds out that she is on the KKK black list and fears for her life. She finds out that her family is also afraid and they stop talking to her. She quits her job and moves back to Canton and goes back to her family. She sees how complacent her family is and this frustrates her. Her family treated her like a stranger, and when she graduated from Tougaloo, no one showed up for her graduation. In the end of the book, McKinley is murdered in front of nonviolent civil rights activists. Anne Moody wonders if things will ever work out. Growing up in the north, and being white, we were taught in school what the conditions were in the south and all over America for blacks. I never really thought much of it, like many kids my age, because it never affected me. This surgery would require the doctors to crack open Cara s skull and cut out a part of her temporal lobe that is causing epilepsy. Cara s surgery was scheduled for October 23, and this surgery would cure her from her terrible seizure. • 19. Mexican Cartels And Its Effects On America Since the 1900 s Mexico has been run by several drug cartels, and leaders. These drug cartels have been increasing their territory, murder tolls, and power. The cartels have started to take over the government and Mexico has been becoming known as a lost state. Drug cartels are rising to power because of the lack of government, and structure which also brings fear to all the regular citizens throughout Mexico. Many citizens regularly get murdered for lying to the cartel, informing the authorities about the cartels, or antagonizing the cartels. Although Mexican drug cartels, or drug trafficking organizations, have existed for several decades, their influence has increased since the demise of the Colombian Cali in the 1990s. Mexican drug cartels now dominate the wholesale illicit drug market and in 2007 controlled 90% of the cocaine entering the United States. Arrests of key cartel leaders, has led to increasing drug violence as cartels fight for control of the trafficking routes into the United States. As violence levels rise so do tension levels. Mexico has always been involved in illegal drug smuggling since the beginning. In the 1980 s Mexico started off aiding the Colombian organizations in smuggling cocaine into the U.S. Mexico continued to work for the Colombian organizations, and were paid in cash as well as percentages for some of the cocaine. • 22. David Mancina s Lawsuit Against The National Football League On October 15, 2012, a fan of the New Orleans Saints, David Mancina filed a lawsuit against the National Football League (NFL) and its commissioner Roger Goodell. Mr. Mancina s complaint was framed as a class action lawsuit representing all season and single ticket holders for the Saints games during the 2012 2013 season. The basis of his lawsuit stems from the NFL s punishment to the Saints organization in connection with the bounty scandal. On March 21, 2012, following an investigation, the NFL imposed a punishment against the Saints, with the head coach, assistant coach, general manager, and several players being suspended. Additionally, the team was required to forfeit its second round of draft choices in 2012 and 2013. First, it is ridiculous for David Mancina to try and sue the NFL and the commissioner for rightfully punishing a team in their opinion. Mr. Mancina has no rights to say what is right or wrong for the NFL or commissioner to do especially since he does not hold a leadership role such as a stakeholder, coach, general manager, etc. with the Saints of even in the NFL. Who is he to say that the league does not have sufficient evidence to warrant the suspensions? That is kind of ridiculous to say in my opinion. Instead, Dickinson wants her readers to ponder more on the journey that involved in order to reach that destination. The young boy s plea for safety lands him in various situations, many of which cause him to be tortured and/or abused. Psychological torment from marginalisation causes the young boy to believe God holds disdain toward those without blond hair and blue eyes, causing the young boy to feel depressed. During World War II, Jews were sent to concentration camps and extermination camps in an effort to promote their marginalisation and genocide; the young boy knew this reality and fled from many villages to escape persecution. When the police punish landlords for noise complaints, landlords in turn punish the tenants responsible. • 32. The Cost Of Passenger Cruise 1.After running two different regression models using passenger cruise days and number of passengers to predict which variable better estimates total cost, the data (including a slightly higher adjusted r squared) suggests the number of passenger cruise days acts as a better predictor of total costs. The number of passenger cruise days is more economically plausible because it is more logical to allocate the costs based on the number of passenger cruise days rather than the number of passengers. More specifically, number of passengers does not fully explain the amount of total costs because of the varying duration of trips. For example, consider an instance where Carnival accommodates one thousand passengers on a four day cruise and one thousand passengers on a seven day cruise. Theoretically total costs would be the same when using number of passengers to explain total costs because each cruise accommodates the same number of passengers. On the other hand, when one considers the length of a cruise, total costs should be higher for longer cruises. Per the example above, a seven day cruise will have higher costs than a four day cruise because of the additional resources needed to accommodate passengers for a longer period of time. 2.In order to determine whether two independent variables better explain cost than a single regression (See #1), the group ran a two separate multiple regression. Cambridge University Press) Another threat comes from smaller expeditions that are becoming increasingly common by individuals and small parties. Antarctica requires careful planning and a series of fail safe rescue procedures if anyone gets into difficulty. These smaller expeditions sometimes fail to do this adequately and resort to humanitarian requests for aid from shipping or nearby national bases when they get into difficulty. In recent years for example a small helicopter (totally unsuitable for the task) crashed into the sea off the Antarctica Peninsula requiring rescue. There have so far been no major pollution incidents or losses of life in Antarctica as a result of tourism, though there was a very close call in November 2007 with the holing and subsequent sinking by an iceberg of the M/V Explorer in the Brans field Strait. Fortunately for the passengers and crew of the Explorer the collision occurred in calm conditions, so everyone was able to get off the ship safely and into lifeboats. (Ref: Crossley, Louise. Stereotypes In Newspapers When looking at the history of white Americans encroaching on native land, it is often easy for us to forget that Native Americans had allies that worked to prevent any further loss of land at the hands of white Americans. Fortunately, newspaper editorials allow us to recognize those who worked diligently to raise awareness about and prevent the removal of Native Americans, specifically Cherokees in this case, from their own territories. Although newspapers give us the ability to understand varying viewpoints on a historical issue, they ve also lacked the ability to give a concise and unified public opinion and often contained strong biases. Beginning within the Alps of Austria, the intoxicating spins and steps of the waltz were born. Not long after, however, the waltz took Europe by storm. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, a German writer, even stated in 1765 that people felt obliged to learn [the waltz], for without knowledge of this dance, it was impossible to enter the highest social circles. Although this partner danceis now practically a necessity in social ballroom events, the rise of the waltz would prove to be a difficult journey. Controversy over this popular social activity was not lacking from political and religious leaders. From scandalous to classy, the waltz is a famous traditional type of ballroom dancing that has greatly influenced many dance styles around the world. While the waltz has been around for hundreds of years, the steps used today are actually not a part of the original dance. It is generally accepted that the exact origins of the waltz are fairly obscure. However, it is theorized that the waltz was a product of evolution from a dance called the lГ¤ndler (Britannica). In spite of the tremendous hardships in America during this decade, it also became a time of great music that is still remembered today. Jazz music was highly popular in this time, and Billie Holiday was a famous jazz performer. She stood out from many other musicians because of her intense and passionate performances. Jazz arose from unacceptable segments of society, but quickly grew like wildfire. We often think of the 1930 s as the decade that jazz became civilized, and famous throughout popular culture through the work of pioneering artists like Billie Holiday. People did not own televisions or cable, so radio was their main source of entertainment, and music during this decade was both up beat and a source of relaxation.
