SPLIT SCREEN
MUSIC VIDEOS
• Split Screen :-
In film and video production, split screen is
the visible division of the screen, traditionally
in half, but also in several simultaneous
images, rupturing the illusion that the screen's
frame is a seamless view of reality, similar to
that of the human eye. There may or may not
be an explicit borderline.
Split screen is a potential idea in our
music video, as it will help us capture
more then one character at once
showing. Which would compliment well
with our video narrative as the song we
have chosen talks about a broken heart
that doesn't have even sides, each
screen and person will represent one
side of a relationship.
Here I have experimented with split
screen using pictures of the same
person in different position. This is
how it will look like if we adapt this
idea to our music video.
Example of Split
screen Music Video
‘Hey there Delilah’
Hey There Delilah was directed by Jay Martin.
It was first seen on MTV on May 11, 2007. The
video was filmed in Chicago but had the feel of
New York City. It has a unique layout messaging
out a busy yet dramatic effect. There are three
boxes that show different scenes but the video
is consistent with the girl in the city and with
Higgenson singing in a room playing his guitar
I found the concept and idea of this video very similar
to ours, I also like how the small screens are boxed
rather then combined. This is something I will consider
when editing our own music video.
