Split cord malformations are birth defects where the spinal cord is split into two parts by a fibrous band or lipoma. This study analyzed 27 pediatric patients with split cord malformations who were treated between 2008-2011. Most patients presented with orthopedic issues like scoliosis or clubfoot. After surgery to remove the fibrous band or lipoma, most patients (18) showed improvement, while some (7) did not improve and one patient deteriorated. Early surgery before neurological deficits emerge was recommended to achieve better outcomes for patients with split cord malformations.
