The #CultureisDigital project was launched at the end of March 2018 by the Rt Hon Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, coming out of the Government’s Culture White Paper commitment to review the digitisation of public collections and enhance the online cultural experience.
As one of the commitments from the report, https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/culture-is-digital, The National Archives was asked to set up a Digitisation Taskforce to work with a broad reach of cultural sector representatives in order to explore a new strategic approach to the digitisation and presentation of cultural objects.
This paper proposes to discuss the work of the Taskforce and the results of the survey it undertook, and explore the themes that emerged, for example, content strategies, standards, data interoperability, preservation and sustainability, different economic models to fund digitisation, and skills development. The paper will show what the group achieved, and how it intends to take the work forward.

Panel Discussion: Donor Perspectives on Housing Finance Investment in Africa.
With more than 46 cities in Africa swelling to populations of a million people or more — and 17 of the world's 100 fastest-growing cities located in Africa — there is an acute need to develop housing solutions for so many urban residents. But raising the capital to meet that growing demand for housing remains a significant challenge. In 2013, the African Union for Housing Finance (AUHF) will host a conference under the theme "Raising Capital for Housing Finance.” The Africa-China Urban Initiative will organize a conference panel discussion on "Understanding (and harnessing) Chinese investment interest." Chinese investment in residential development in Africa is increasingly having an impact and demonstrating a track record of opportunity and experience. Panelists invited include Chinese investors setting out their experiences and expectations for the market and an African corporation that has received Chinese financing.

The data revolution
in education. Information Paper N. 39
March 2017 . UNESCO Institute for Statistics .
The Agenda for Sustainable Development and Education 2030 present an ambitious new policy vision
for the international education community. This vision places new demands on countries, especially
producers and users of education data. For Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, “inclusive and
equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all,” the main challenge for
countries is to measure and monitor targets that are characterised by their broad scope, the thematic
focus on quality and equity, and the need to enhance national institutional and technical capacities.
The production and dissemination of high quality education statistics is essential for effective
planning, as well as for monitoring progress towards national and global education targets. For SDG 4,
it is necessary to rely on a combination of data from administrative records, household surveys and
learning assessments.

Connected health data meets the people: Diversity, Standards, and Trustchronaki
Using health data in a connected world requires new competencies, a personal digital health compass calibrated to individual personalities and needs. Patients and clinicians able to collect and manage data, data-operational informatics professionals able to analyze data, and cutting-edge researchers, innovators, and educators able to apply knowledge, will take learning health systems to the next level.
In this EFMI-HL7 event using innovative technology and surprises to engage the audience, we will discuss strategies for empowering and activating people to engage, share and use their health data. We will point to diversity, trust and open standards like HL7 FHIR to open up access and capacities to manage data safely for patients, care-givers, and the health system.

The G20 Social Protection Knowledge Sharing Platform
1. Social Protection Interagency Cooperation Board
4th SPIAC-B Meeting,
Brussels, 29 October 2013
“The G20 Social
Protection Knowledge
Sharing Platform”
Fabio Veras Soares,
Research Coordinator,
and
Mariana Hoffmann,
Communication and
Outreach Officer
www.ipc-undp.org
2. Background
In 2011, the G20 Development Working Group (DWG)
recommended the creation of a knowledge sharing
platform on social protection as part of the
recommendations in Pillar 6 (Growth with Resilience)
and Pillar 9 (Knowledge Sharing)
The International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth
(IPC-IG) and the Poverty Practice (UNDP/HQ) took
charge in developing the prototype of a knowledge
sharing platform in consultation with the World Bank
and ILO: http://www.socialprotection.org/ and the
financial support from AusAid.
2
3. Facilitating South-South learning on social
protection policies
Challenge: The existing websites and databases
on social protection are institution-centered and not
necessarily integrated in a format that can reach a
broader audience and/or facilitate knowledge
sharing
Target audiences: policymakers, development
practitioners and specialists, with a focus on MICs
and LICs.
Strategy: unbranded gateway that will gather a set
of comprehensive, updated learning resources on
social protection, promote of key themes in the
south-south policy debate and encourage interactive
engagement
3
4. Facilitating South-South learning on social
protection policies
Expected outcomes: 1) Expansion of knowledge about
innovations and current practices related to social
protection; 2) Increase and improvements in cooperation
activities in the area of social protection between LICs and
MICs; 3) Expansion of nationally owned social protection
programmes

pensions, family/child allowance, CCTs); Food Security
(e.g. school feeding programmes, mother and child nutrition
programmes, smallholder agriculture); Employment
Programmes (e.g. employment guarantee schemes, asset
transfers)
Features: Searchable database with data sources housed
in agencies; Events and Library sections through automated
feeds; Knowledge: section for users to actively share and
exchange knowledge; Links to potential partners websites
and communities of practices.
4
5. Why the IPC?
South-South knowledge exchange is part of the IPC’s
mandate to foster South-South collaboration.
The IPC-IG has already laid out the groundwork on SouthSouth knowledge-sharing on social protection.
Worldwide network that can be mobilized and expanded
to further contribute to the gateway, as well as a team of
researchers that with vast experience and knowledge in
different fields of social policies.
The IPC-IG has disseminated over 850 policy-oriented
research publications; its global network covers 189
countries and reaches out to over 37,000 selected
stakeholders.
The IPC-IG website receives a monthly average of over
160,000 visits, with visitors from over 170 countries.
5
6. Next steps
Round of consultations and feedback
Partnership building and user engagement
Strategy development for a revamped gateway
Mapping social protection frameworks in the
developing world
Consolidation of advisory board and Management
Team
