UV-Vis spectroscopy can be used to detect functional groups, determine the extent of conjugation, and identify unknown groups by observing shifts in absorption maxima. It has applications in identifying poly nuclear hydrocarbons, elucidating vitamins A1 and A2, and determining tautomeric forms through hypsochromic, bathochromic, hyperchromic, and hypochromic shifts observed in absorption spectra.
