This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Dzierżoniów - a town in south-west Poland, in Lower Silesia, in the
Lower Silesia Province. It is located in the Dzierżoniowska Valley, on the
Piława River, at the foot of the Owl Mountains.
12th century - the legendary beginnings of the city of Dzierżoniów
The name of the city was given to commemorate Jan Dzierżoń - an
outstanding Silesian bee researcher.
The population of the city of Dzierżoniów is about 35 thousand people.
The area of the city is about 21 km².
4. Market square - RYNEK
The market square ( rynek ) in Dzierżoniów is the main square of the city, quite
large compared to other cities in Lower Silesia. In its’ central part is the Town Hall -
the seat of the town authorities and the Municipal Public Library.

Mother Mary Church
It was built in late 18th century next to
the Świdnica Gate on the square created
after the demolished prince's castle.
St. George's Church
The most beautiful monument of architecture
in Dzierżoniów.
The church was built in the 13th century.
7. The Holy Trinity Church Synagogue
It is an old cemetery chapel, probably built in the
13th century.
The synagogue was built in 1875
8. Playgrounds by Wojtek
In Dzierżoniów there are a lot of
playgrounds but my favourite
one is Fairy-tales Stars
Playground. There is a very big
sandpit and a zipline there.
There are also lots of swings
and slides.
9. Sports Centre Wojtek
In Dzierżoniów there
is a big sports center.
You can play football
or tennis there. There
is also a track, an
outdoor gym and an
outdoor swimming
pool.There is a
beautiful mountain
view there.

16. The Owl Mountains
The Owl Mountains are located
between the mountains: Wałbrzyskie
and Pogórze Wałbrzyskie from the
west and Bardzkie mountains from
the east. In the east, the border is the
Srebrna Pass, and in the west, the
Bystrzyca River valley.

17. What is worth seeing in the Owl Mountains?
It is definitely worth
climbing the Wielka
Sowa (Great Owl). It is
the highest peak of the
Owl Mountains with a
height of 1015 m. It is
beautiful there in every
season of the year.
18. Ślęża mountain
Ślęża mountain is the highest peak of the Ślęża Massif and the entire Sudeten
Foreland, rising to a height of 718 m above sea level.
19. Ślęża mountain
There are some interesting sights to visit there: a church, a view tower and
an ancient bear sculpture and a youth hostel.
