The talk was with Sophie Gibson
Sophie is an ex Sunderland College student who studied Media. Sophie has went on to do
a BBC apprenticeship and was the only person in the North East who gained a place on
the BBC apprenticeship. The BBC Hub offers Level 3 and Level 4 apprenticeships, covering
a whole host of job roles. Through our outstanding programme, apprentices will earn a
salary, gain a recognised apprenticeship qualification, have access to gold standard
training and be supported by dedicated apprenticeship scheme specialists.
In this experience Sophie talked about the apprenticeship scheme works and how she went
through the process. She then discussed the role that she takes part in within the BBC and talked
about how she is involved within specific roles of the BBC. This experience allowed me to think of
going into a potential apprenticeship within the BBC as Sophie explained the whole process that
she went through to get into the BBC. However, after hearing the experience I then decided that I
wanted to go into university and build up my knowledge in university. This allowed me to see that
there are opportunities within the north east with large companies such as the BBC. This allowed
me to meet a relevant person within the industry who studied at the same college and studied the
same course as me, this allowed me to see that people from all areas can have large opportunities
within the media. This helped me prepare for my mock interview that I had coming up with David
Longsworth who is the head of apprenticeship applications at the BBC. This allowed me to get an
idea on what questions that he may ask or similar to. From this experience I didn’t learn any new
skills.

However, after hearing the experience I then decided that I wanted to go into university and build up my knowledge in university. This allowed me to see that there are opportunities within the north east with large companies such as the BBC. This allowed me to meet a relevant person within the industry who studied at the same college and studied the same course as me, this allowed me to see that people from all areas can have large opportunities within the media. This helped me prepare for my mock interview that I had coming up with David Longsworth who is the head of apprenticeship applications at the BBC. This allowed me to get an idea on what questions that he may ask or similar to. From this experience I didn’t learn any new skills. Have you learnt new skills?
