The document discusses the Agence universitaire de la Francophonie's (AUF) proactive free and open source software (FLOSS) policy. The AUF is an association of 710 universities in 81 countries that promotes cooperation in higher education and research. It has adopted FLOSS to support sustainable development, free users from vendor lock-in, and develop local economies. As a result, the AUF now uses Ubuntu Linux on 98% of PCs, Debian Linux on 92% of servers, and open web apps and databases. It aims to reach 80% Linux migration by 2009 through internal skills development and collaboration with communities.
