Advertising, Promotions, and Marketing Management
Advertising, promotions, and marketing management represents one of the highest paying
occupations in the United States. In 2014, a third of advertising and promotions manager were
employed by advertising agencies while 17 percent of marketing managers were employed by
companies and other enterprises around the United States. The occupation entails advertising,
promoting, and designing marketing programs aimed at generating interests in products or
services.
This occupation has been gaining a lot of popularity because of the high rate of business
start-ups as well as companies globalizing their activities. In addition, there is high competition as
a result of increased advertising and promotion activities by the existing companies as well as from
the new emerging companies. As a result, the demand for this occupation continues to rise because
each of these companies intends to engage in advertising and promotion, as well as management
activities that will enable it stay ahead of its competitors. The demand for this occupation was
projected to grow by 9 percent in a period of ten years (2014-2024) (BLS, 2015). This represents
the fastest growth among all occupations.
In most companies around the United States, a minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required
to be employed as advertising, promotions, or marketing manager. However, companies require
that these managers possess a work experience to occupy this position. In 2015, the median pay
for this occupation was $124,850 per year translating into $60.03 per hour (BLS, 2015). By 2015,
advertising, promotions, and marketing management ranked as one of the highest paying
occupations.
Anesthetics, Midwives, and Doctors
3. RunningHead: SOCIAL STRATIFICATION 3
This occupation is commonly referred as advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs).
This occupation entails the work of coordinating patient care as well as provision of primary and
specialty healthcare. However, there is variance in scope of practice from state to state. Different
people in this occupation work as nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, and nurse anesthetics. The
places in which people in this occupation are employed include hospitals, clinics, schools, and
physicians’ offices.
Due to the ever increasing burden of disease, this occupation is projected to be one of the
occupations that will continue gaining popularity. In 2014, the total number of people employed
in this position was 170,400 (BLS, 2015). This occupation requires that people possess at least a
master’s degree in one of the APRN roles. In addition, these people must have a license from their
state of residence as well as have passed a national certification exam.
In 2015, the median pay for people in this occupation was $104,740 per year translating
into $50.36 per hour (BLS, 2015). Like advertising, promotions, and marketing management,
nurse anesthetics, nurse midwife, or nurse practitioner occupation is projected to growth much
faster compared to other occupations because its growth is above average for all occupations. This
growth will be motivated by the effects of healthcare legislation, increased demand for healthcare
services, the increasing number of aging population as people seek to live longer compared to
previous generations.
