Social responsibility refers to an organization's obligation to act in a way that benefits society. It involves maintaining a balance between economic and environmental concerns. Organizations have social responsibilities towards their employees, customers, shareholders, government, and society. While pursuing social responsibility through voluntary activities can enhance an organization's image, it also carries some disadvantages if not undertaken carefully. Examples of socially responsible companies in India are provided. Fulfilling social responsibilities can ultimately benefit both society and the organization through increased profits and happier employees.
