Each technological age has been marked by a shift in how the industrial platform enables companies to rethink their business processes and create wealth. In the talk I argue that we are limiting our view of what this next industrial/digital age can offer because of how we read, measure and through that perceive the world (how we cherry pick data). Companies are locked in metrics and quantitative measures, data that can fit into a spreadsheet. And by that they see the digital transformation merely as an efficiency tool to the fossil fuel age. But we need to stretch further…

Even in today’s economic climate, finding and attracting top talent to your organization is probably a struggle. In many industries, such as IT, traditional talent pools have dried up and firms are finding they must turn to alternative methods in order to build pipelines in key skill sets to ensure they have the talent to satisfy current initiatives and to promote growth for the future. Many Human Resources professionals, sales and recruiters are turning to social media in order to present their brand and build these talent and lead pipelines. Unfortunately, a majority of them are doing it poorly!
The training will focus on the basics:
1- What Are the Current Trends in Social Media Today?
2- What is LinkedIn and Why Should You Use It?

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Social interaction using various websites, tools, blogs to exchange content, opinions, experiences, recommendations, late-breaking news… etc.
Marketing 2.0, Branding 2.0, Web 2.0 – encourage interaction, collaboration, it is a changing, evolving world, and social media is the new way people connect, relate, and communicate on the internet. Websites change, blogs allow for interaction, opinions, views, late-breaking news, recommendations shared; more collaborative
Helping others is way to strengthen your contacts, and others will want to help you in return. Become source of valuable information; brand yourself as someone who is knowledgeable, stays on top of current industry trends, and share information to help others. Grow your network - cast a wider net to get new contacts; “connect”, not collect Find ways to connect / interact - find common interests, do face-to-face Build your brand / differentiate yourself - tell your unique story, share knowledge Networking “best practice” tip – find ways to help others; be a people connector
Connect with people / industry leaders with similar interests. Get your name out in the open across a wide network in order to meet potential connections in your industry . Due to “viral” nature of social media - messages can be resent, “retweeted”, shared across many sites much faster than traditional media. Compared to print, radio, TV, bulk mailings, no initial money to invest. ROI = immediate savings . *Need to know about social media to communicate now – part of our culture!* Use social media to connect - LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, blogs to engage & connect Build brand awareness - leverage social media sites to get message out to large audience Share, Share, Share -- Be a resource, not a sales person Best practice tip: don ’t just connect with someone in order to sell them something!
1-Catalyst - current recession and mass lay-offs means a lot more people looking for work 2 -more people are networking with a click of a mouse 3 - In answer to swelling unemployment numbers, social media sites see a spike in use. Social media has quickly become more mainstream. Nightly news reference Twitter, Facebook, blogs on daily basis. More turning to social media to get word out faster for job searching and networking, brand building, and quickly increasing the number of contacts.
I ’m sure you have all seen something similar about the value of networking. Depending which article you read, 70% - 85% jobs today are found through networking
Rekindled my interest in social media, validated social media as a better way to network, I better take a closer look at this, especially the “holy trinity”** of social media - LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter
I do not use all social media the same, but they all have value for building a wide network (LinkedIn & Twitter – more professional, Facebook is more casual / social*) Bottom line: it ’s about brand building, recommending and helping others, expanding your network. Build a strong online brand, offer help and information to assist others, and people will want to connect with you. Don’t get “LinkedIn tunnel vision”; leverage all social media where possible to “tell your story” & build your brand.
Find groups that match your industry or career interests, become an “active member” and add value. Start a new group to build brand, attract connections with common interests
My groups
– Ex: JobConcierge, Connecting Great People - Networking for Jobs/Recruiters, Richmond SharePoint User Group, Virginia Career Network, Richmond User Experience, ResumeBucket Protect brand – Avoid posting inappropriate pictures, controversial comments / subjects
An awesome networking tool. Like a large international chat room operating 24 X 7, you can drop in whenever you like The world ’s largest cocktail party A microblogging site; share content in 140 chars or less What are misconceptions about Twitter? Recent survey of age demographics for Twitter: over 25 yrs old, most often used by the 45-54 yr old segment Follow people in your locality, in your industry, who have similar hobbies and beliefs, whatever you enjoy. And then start interacting. Reply to what others say, share what you’re reading on the web, and get to know people.” You can immediately share your thoughts with others, follow a link to visit websites, get job leads, and cast a wider net to expand your contact list.
Fill out your profile and bio, add photo, start looking for people to follow. Short bio – add URL to your LinkedIn profile / website, your professional title, career info, goals. Easy to setup, get started Think “what are you working on career-related” Twitter apps Twellow – Twitter yellow pages Twitter search – part of Twitter, search topic, keyword, names Tweepsearch .com – name search, search Bio by keywords Hootsuite , Twhirl, Tweetdeck, bit.ly – shrink URLs twtjobs – your resumes, strongest skills, education, industry Nearbytweets.com – use keywords to find people near you (location, keyword, search radius) Best practices recommend links, articles, share information, support others, build relationships! avoid NEGATIVE comments, individual attacks (everything is “permanent” on internet, exercise caution in comments) share tools, tips, late-breaking news, views, answer questions 140 chars – add value, don’t share daily mundane activities
Dashboard to organize Twitter updates
twtjobs – your resume on twitter
Twitter is exploding in popularity all over the world with new users signing on every day.
Shows your Google profile & photo. your website, your blog, your LinkedIn profile - anything you want. Add your most important social networking sites, perhaps Facebook and Twitter.
Cut and paste your resume into the body of the profile, add your photo and an on-brand headline under your name, and pop in links to your other online profiles, websites, blogs, etc. Really makes your profile stand out in Google search.
Owning a blog and supporting others, responding to other ’s blogs is a good way to build your brand and get your comments and thoughts out over the social media sites. This can serve you well by building your reputation as an expert, and as someone that people want to connect with and support, in return.
Twitter lands Warren a job. I does happen, but still takes a solid network in place FIRST!
Here are a few social media success stories using for small firms Charter reservations are sailing in for Free Spirit Yacht Cruises this year despite the turbulent economy, and co-owner Angela Motola-Donofrio attributes it to a social media push. The company is tweeting regularly on Twitter and recently launched group and fan pages on Facebook . The Chicago-based company is among small businesses broadening their reach through social media and blogs . BradsDeals.com didn't consider social media the best fit until this year. "When we started on Facebook a few weeks ago, I wasn't sure we were going to connect with people because our demographic is older," said Brad Wilson, founder and editor in chief, who also began using Twitter recently.
You need to build the RELATIONSHIP first! …BEFORE you ask others for help or attempt to market anything to them. Alison Doyle - That means researching companies, searching for job listings, writing a resume, and writing a customized cover letter for every job you apply for It's a time consuming process to learn how to build an online presence, create a personal brand that reflects you as the perfect candidate, to engage with connections to help, and to do it effectively. That's especially true if this is all new to you and you haven't had to job search in a while.
(Ex: Alison Doyle and I share a passion for snow skiing ). Can lose interview, job, and even be sued. Hiring managers will search social media to find out more about you.
Can lose interview, job, and even be sued. Hiring managers will search social media to find out more about you. Use social media - add contacts, expand your network, market your skills, search companies and people to get to that next information / job interview quicker
